    “The Chain f Lve” was inspired by a true incident that Jnnie Barnett (1945-2002) experienced many years ag. Barnett was a musician wh played mstly in small clubs in the American Suth. One night when he was n the way t perfrm, he was driving in an expensive car when it gt a flat tyre n a lnely rad. As it turned ut, his jack was als brken, s it was impssible t change the tyre. He tried t get ther drivers t stp and help him, but it was n use. After several hurs, a yung man driving an ld pick-up truck stpped t help. When he ffered t pay the man, he answered, “If yu want t pay me back, next time yu see smebdy wh needs a helping hand, yu help that persn and think f me.” This memry stuck with Barnett. Years later, he wrte a bk called Chicken Sup fr the Cuntry Sul. The bk included a shrt stry inspired by this incident, but many f the details were changed. Rry Lee Feek (brn 1965) later used this stry fr the sng “The Chain f Lve”.
