    Understand the -ing and -ed forms as the predicative and adverbial

    Teaching aims:

    By the end of the period, students will be able to:

    1.Identify and compare the features and functions of the -ing and -ed as the predicative and adverbial.

    2.Practise the usages of the -ing and -ed forms in different contexts.

    3.Improve your writing by using the -ing and -ed forms as the predicative and adverbial instead of full clauses.

    Teaching key and difficult points:

    1.Help students to analyse the function and meaning of the -ing form as the predicative and adverbial in a real context and improve their writing by using the -ing and -ed forms.

    2.Instruct students to learn how to use the -ing and -ed forms in the writing.

    Teaching procedures:

    StepⅠObserve and analyse

    Read and observe the sentences.Discuss the function and meaning of each -ing and -ed form.

    1.For both of them,the thought of crossing the whole country by rail was exciting.

    2.However,they did not anticipate seeing such an open country,and were truly amazed.

    3.Seen from the train window,the mountains and forests of Canada looked massive.

    4.Looking at the beautiful scenery,they both agreed that it was the most awesome journey they had ever taken.

    The other night,I went to a Chinese restaurant called Spicy Memory.It had interesting decoration,with bare walls,lanterns,and colourful posters.The food was simply astonishing.We had fish fragrant eggplant,a spicy noodle dish,and a huge salad with some amazing seafood in it.The only problem with the restaurant was that it kept playing loud music,and after a while we had become tired of hearing it.And then there was the wait for the food.We told the waiter that it had taken more than two hours for our main course to arrive.We became a little bored with waiting for it.However,when it arrived,we no longer cared that we had waited so long for the food.In the end,satisfied with the experience,we decided that we would go there againbut only if we had a lot of time to spend!
