    2. To talk about historic places and share your own experiences.

    3. To think first about what the map shows and what symbols mean.

    4. To scan the discourse for specific information such as the timeline.

    1. To master the essentials of looking at the map;

    2. To understand the significance of learning history for understanding the social and cultural situation of a country, and be able to organize their own language expression;

    3. To understand and learn new words in the text in the context.

    Part ⅠLead-in

    Look at the map on page 40 of the textbook and discuss the following questions in pairs.

    1.What type of map is it?

    Read a map:

    When you look at a map,think first about what the map shows and what the symbols mean.

    Part Ⅱ Prediction

    Look at the title and the map and guess what the text is about.
