(2022春·江苏宿迁·八年级统考期末)As an English saying goes “Where there’s tea, there’s hope.” A Chinese saying goes that “Firewood, rice, cooking oil, salt, sauce, vinegar (醋) and tea are the seven necessary things to begin a day.”
Tea is popular all over the world. It is said that nearly 5.8 million tons of tea was produced around the world in 2018. In Turkey (土耳其), tea has become the most popular hot drink. This is because that coffee costs have risen and tea has become a cheaper drink. People in Ireland drink cups of hot tea to get through the grey, foggy winters. Tea drinking in the UK began in the eighteenth century. Traders introduced the drink from China as something very expensive. But now tea is a common drink in the UK.

(2022春·江苏宿迁·八年级统考期末)I saved the grain (谷物) carefully and finally had enough to plant. I built a wall around my garden to keep the wild goats away.
Then when my crop bore its fruit, the birds found it. The birds were not afraid of my dog at all. I shot (射击) them but as soon as I walked away, they came back. At last, I killed some birds and hung them among the crop, hoping they would make the birds afraid fly away, which turned out to be successful. By harvest time, I had nearly two bushels of rice and two and a half bushels of wheat.
With my new grain to store, I found a new problem. I needed something new to store the fine grain because it ran through my baskets easily. Finally, it took me nearly two months to dry two ugly pots (容器) — one for rice and one for wheat.
Next I formed a clay oven (黏土烤炉) and made some other tools from hard wood and cloth to bake (烘烤) bread. I made and baked bread in my oven and made some other tools from hard wood and cloth to bake bread. I made and baked bread in my oven. I spent the third year on the island in farming and baking.
Soon after that, I began to think of my days sailing in a tidy boat with Xury. I wished to have a boat and explore (探索) the island by sea.
I still decided to have a boat. So I chose a strong tree and spent weeks cutting it down. Then it took me months to turn it from tree to boat.
When it was time to set off, I realized I had made my boat too far from the nearest stream. The boat was far too heavy for me to move. I tried bringing the water to the boat instead of the boat to the water. I soon saw it would take me twenty years of work.
I celebrated my fourth year on the island with two boats, but I was no closer to a sea journey.

(2022春·江苏扬州·八年级统考期末)One day, when I finished raising money for a charity and was on the train back home, I put down my phone and started writing thank-you notes to people who helped.
When I got off the train, I felt amazingly good. The next day, I wrote more thank-yous and the same feeling of happiness hit me again. I suddenly had the idea: Why not keep on doing this for every day of the year?
To keep on task, I decided to pick out a different theme for each month. January was charity. February would be neighbours. And many names came to my mind right away.
While writing the notes, I realized I spent too much time on the phone moving from app to app, enjoying other people’s lives. Writing thank-you notes allowed me the time to do something different, paying more attention to my own life.
In the following months, I wrote to my friends, doctors and teachers. In July, my “food” month, I wrote to Julie, who used to cook at my favorite restaurant. It went like this:
Dear Julie,
I find myself missing you lately. Thank you for hosting and cooking beautiful food. Jake and I will never forget the cake you made for our wedding. We talk about it every year.
Thank you. We miss you.
Love,
Gina
I was happy to receive a note back from her. Julie replied, “I don’t think I’ve ever received such a touching letter before. I’m going through a hard time right now, and this helps.”

Not all tomatoes are red. They can be yellow, orange, pink, or white. All tomatoes are green before they are ready to be picked. Then the tomatoes turn their true color. That’s when they’re ready to eat!
Tomatoes first grew in the Americas. The Incas (印加人) grew them over 1,000 years ago. They were introduced to Europe by the Spanish in the early 16th century. Tomatoes are fruits. They grow from seeds. They won’t grow in cold weather. But with water, sunlight and warmth, tomatoes grow fast. They can grow in pots or in the ground. As the plant grows taller, people may tie it to a stick. Next is the blooming stage. Flowers appear. The flowers turn into fruit. Some kinds of tomatoes can be picked in about six more weeks. Some tomatoes are large. One kind of tomato can weigh as much as two pounds.
You can eat raw tomatoes. First, wash them. Then, cut them up for salads or sandwiches. Tomatoes can be cooked, too. They can be grilled, boiled, or even fried. Do you use ketchup(番茄酱)? It is made from tomatoes. Tomatoes don’t have a smell. But they taste great in foods around the world. Many dishes from India use tomatoes. Spaghetti sauce and pizza from Italy use them, too. Raw tomatoes are in Mexican salsa.

(2022春·江苏南通·八年级统考期末)Among all the books I have read so far, one of my favourites is Number the Stars, written by the American author Lois Lowry.
The book is set in 1943 during the Holocaust(大屠杀). It took place three days after Denmark surrendered(投降)to Germany. Around this time, the Nazi(纳粹)began to “relocate” the Jews(犹太人)they had caught in Denmark.
The book’s main character, 10-year-old Annemarie, lives in Denmark. Her good friend, 10-year-old Ellen Rosen, comes from a Jewish family. Word has spread that Nazis are going to “relocate” the Jews living in Denmark. Luckily, Sweden, unoccupied by the Nazis, makes an ideal place for the Jews to run away to. It’s time for Annemarie to work up her courage(勇气)in order to help her good friend out. Will she and her family risk their lives for the Rosens? You will know the answer by reading the novel for yourself.
Through the reading of Number the Stars, I realized the importance of friendship. Without their strong friendship with the Danish people, the Jews couldn’t have outsmarted the Nazis. But true friendships don’t only appear in books. They are actually all around us. Good friends help each other in many situations, from those that are as small as solving a maths problem to those as big as the one in Number the Stars. I have many great friends who have always been with me and helped me to deal with the difficulties I have met in my life. I should value it all my life.
35.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A.Number the Stars was written by a Jewish
B.the story happened in the forties of the 20th century
C.Lois Lowry is the book’s main character
D.Annemarie comes from a Jewish family in Sweden
36.We can infer from the passage that ________.
A.Annemarie and her family may face much danger
B.Annemarie and her family will surrender to the Nazis
C.Annemarie will escape to Sweden instead of Ellen Rosen
D.Annemarie will help her friends escape to the USA easily
37.The last paragraph of the article is mainly about ________.
A.why the Jews are cleverer than the Nazis
B.why the writer decided to write the article
C.bow the writer gets on with his/her friends
D.what the writer has learnt from the book
(2022春·江苏南通·八年级统考期末)Have you been finding yourself in hot water with just about everyone in your life? Have your parents got angry with you because you didn’t clean up your room even after they had repeatedly told you to do so? Have your teachers been criticizing you for not handing in your homework on time? Maybe you are even in trouble with yourself. Are you yawning (打哈欠) all the time? Do the things that used to interest you no longer make you feel good?
Did you answer “yes” to some or even all of these questions? Do you consider yourself to be a gamer? If so, then maybe it’s time to turm off your computer and read this article carefully.
More and more study has proved that too much gaming can change your brain structure (构造). It can also lead to some physical illnesses that will remain with you for a lifetime. Your love for games is taking away your freedom to control your own future. This is not a joke!
Luckily, there are ways for you to help yourself so that you can start feeling good about your life again. The first step is to accept that you’ve got a problem. You can say this to your friends. Next, spend some time learning about what is happening inside your brain as a result of too much gaming. Think about how you feel when you are playing your favorite games. As soon as you win a round, do your hands move to start a new game without you even thinking about it? This is a clear sign of addiction (上瘾) — a brain disease.
In order to fight this disease, you may have to give up playing a particular game. Limit the amount of time you spend on gaming (the new national rules may be just what you need). You can also get help from your friends. They can, for example, help you to take up some new hobbies.
The teen brain is very flexible: it can repair itself. The key, however, is whether you are willing enough to give the chance to do so.

After serving all the teens doing a great job, he was left a tip(小费), only $3. 28. That was hardly enough to buy a drink at Starbucks.
The waiter went home. And he felt angry for the students who did not know the value of hard work. They looked down on people like him. Or so he thought.
After several days, the waiter forgot about it. His life went on as usual. But ten days later, he received a letter from the teens.

(2022春·江苏淮安·八年级统考期末)
It was dark that night and it wasn’t easy to see where we were going. Suddenly, a big steamboat (汽船) came at us very fast. Jim and I jumped off the raft (木筏) into the water. The boat hit the raft and went on up the river.
When I came up out of the water, I couldn’t see Jim anywhere. I called out his name again and again, but there was no answer. “He’s dead!” I thought. Slowly, I swam to the side of the river and got out. I was near a big old wooden house. Suddenly, a lot of angry dogs jumped out at me and someone called from the house, “Who’s there?”
“George Jackson,” I answered quickly. “I’ve fallen off a river boat.”
The people in that house took me in and gave me some new clothes and a good meal. I told them that my family were all dead, so they said I could stay with them as long as I wanted.
A few days later, a slave (奴隶) in the house came to me and said, “Come with me!” Together, we went down to some trees by the river. “In there!” he said and went away.
On the ground, I found a man, asleep. It was Jim! I was really happy to see him. When the steamboat hit the raft, Jim told me, the raft didn’t crash. Jim swam after it and caught it. Then he began to look for me.
We decided to leave at once. It’s all right living in a house for a little while, but we feel more free and easy and comfortable on a raft.

(2022春·江苏淮安·八年级统考期末)Being a frugal consumer (节俭的消费者) is one way to protect our environment. But what exactly does that mean?
Use It Up
① You can use things up instead of wasting them. Squeeze (挤压) the last bit of toothpaste (牙膏) out of the tube. Use the last little piece of soap (肥皂). Don’t throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.
Wear It Out
② You do not always need to have new things. Suppose (假设) your trainers have broken laces (鞋带), but they still fit you. Repair them and wear them longer. You don’t get a new mobile phone until the old one doesn’t work any more. Don’t throw anything away when it still works.
Make It Do
③ When something you want is not on hand, look for something else that you already have to take its place. Suppose you are packing your lunch for tomorrow and want a sandwich. You are out of sandwiches. Have some bread instead, and you can use all of the bread. Learn to fix broken toys instead of just throwing them away. With a little thought, you can make something do, instead of buying something new.
Do Without

(2022春·江苏淮安·八年级统考期末)Volunteers are often overlooked(忽视) by people. But no activities can carry on smoothly without hard-working volunteers. Last month, I volunteered at the Color Run in Melbourne, Australia. Although I didn’t have so much fun as the runners, I still learned a valuable lesson.
My job was to give a high five(击掌) to every runner at the finish line. At the beginning, I saw it as a simple task. When the first runner passed, I reached out my hands and shouted “Good job!” excitedly. However, as more and more people crossed the finish line and clapped their hands with mine, my arms got sore. At that moment, I was quite touched. They were so young, and they refused to give up. Suddenly, I felt myself full of strength(力量). I clapped their hands, “Well done, little guys!”

I was now twenty meters high in the air, and I hoped he would not decide to throw me to the ground.
