Then, something surprising happened. One of the Chinese players waved to Cowan from the Chinese bus. He thought for a moment and then he got on the bus. But the Chinese players didn’t talk to him. Suddenly, Zhuang Zedong, three times world champion, came up to Cowan. “What are you doing?” said the other Chinese players. “Don’t talk to him! (2022春·江苏南京·八年级校联考期末)Have you ever paid for educational podcasts (播客) or live videos? Ask some people and most of them will say yes. “Pay-for-knowledge” has been more and more fashionable these years. The contents of these “pay-for-knowledge” products are from language learning to gardening or baby-caring. Everything you think of can be found online at this moment. “Pay-for-knowledge” is on the rise(兴起).
Why is “pay-for-knowledge” industry developing so rapidly? First, its development is based on the Internet. With a fast network and a smartphone, anyone who has passed the identity (身份) check can be an online teacher, and anyone with an online account (帐户) can buy “pay-for-knowledge” products. Second, people are afraid to miss any information. On one hand, people hope for more useful information. On the other hand, such information is usually at the hands of experts who serve famous companies and universities. What’s more, this is a reflection(反映)of respect for knowledge and talents.

For another, a large number of customers buy them just for showing off. In fact, those who have really had self-growth after buying online courses may be the kind of people who need them least. In other words, with or without these courses, they can make it anyway, because they are those who have the ability to learn by themselves.
In general, the best is the one that suits you most. “Pay-for-knowledge” may be used as a good start for self-growth. Be careful! Otherwise, your dream of success may not come true.

(2022春·江苏常州·八年级统考期末)Imagine that a girl sits down for a test in a future classroom. Her exam paper is made by an artificial intelligence(AI)(人工智能) model based on her own laming. When she finishes her paper, she hands her paper to her teacher, who uses another AI model to grade the paper. Based on the result, a new learning plan is made for the student according to her strengths(优势) and weaknesses. This is personalized(个性化的) education at its best.
Could this be the future of AI in education? It is certainly possible. With the development of high technology, the dream about the AI classroom will come true even faster than we expected.

The book includes the name, photo, and signature(签名) of each student in your final year, so that you can remember who you went to school with. A 15-year-old girl Catherine Cook and her brother David wanted more than this. They thought, “Why not have a yearbook online? You could learn about people’s music tastes, the movies they like, and so on.”
Catherine thought of the name−−myYearbook.com, and the logo(标志). To advertise the website, Catherine and David wore T-shirts with the website logo to school and soon hundreds of their schoolmates became fans of the website. (2022春·江苏泰州·八年级统考期末)Once upon a time, people could not write and they had no books. But they had stories.
The ancient Egyptians wrote their stories on flat sheets made from papyrus (纸莎草) plants. They glued many papyrus sheets together to make one long strip (条). Then they rolled the strip around a stick to make a scroll. People in other areas also used parchment (羊皮纸) instead.
In ancient China, books looked a little different. People there first carved (雕刻) words into bone or tortoise shell (龟壳). Later they used ink to write on strips of bamboo or silk. Then the Chinese invented (发明) paper. The first paper was made from waste cloth, but later plant materials were also used. The invention spread slowly across the world, reaching Europe in the 1100s. Then people used paper to make early books.
But all these early books still had one big problem. Every single book had to be copied out by hand. If there were pictures, each page had to be painted by hand, one at a time. This made books rare and expensive — though also very beautiful.
The Chinese were the first to think of a way to speed things up a little. In 1040, a man named Bi Sheng invented movable type printing (活字印刷). Movable type worked by carving a single Chinese word on a block of wood or clay. These could then be together with other words to create sentences, or whole pages.
In the 1400s Johannes Gutenberg of Germany invented a new way of printing. It used movable type — metal letters that could be arranged (排列) and rearranged to form words. It also used a machine called a press. Gutenberg’s inventions made printing became faster and easier.
As more books became easy to get, more people learnt to read. In the past, books were a luxury only the rich could buy. But with the printing press, they soon became a treasure everyone could enjoy.
36.What did the ancient Chinese first use as paper?
A.Papyrus sheets. B.Parchment.

38.Who invented the machine called a press?
A.The ancient Egyptians. B.The ancient Chinese.

39.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “luxury”?

40.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 5?

Video games are also a good way to teach children about technology(技术) because they can learn how computers and other devices work while they play.
However, a recent study suggests that video games can also be bad for children. First, children can download many games for free. (2022春·江苏南京·八年级统考期末)On January 27, in order to win the new pneumonia Resistance War(抗击新型肺炎战), the Ministry of Education issued(公布) a notice on putting off the start time of school in spring 2020. It was said that school should not start before February 17. The exact start time of school will depend on situations and further notice.
However, many parents are very worried that putting off the start of school may affect children’s studies. If they have such a long winter vacation, children will not learn any knowledge, read books or study at all. They may forget what they have learned before. Staying at home for a long time will make them keep eating, sleeping and playing, which seriously affect their physical and mental(精神) health. In short, the close of school influences learning and develops bad habits, so how should we avoid these problems? Local education departments have also issued a notice, that is, to organize online teaching and create a network platform(平台), where necessary courses will be shown every day, and online teaching will be given by excellent teachers of the subject, and students can learn at home through computer or mobile network.
It should be said that such a method is very good. It can not only keep students indoors and not worry about the infection(感染) of the disease, but also make them study at home, improve their learning ability, and truly achieve “no suspension of classes”. Both the platform itself and the recorded lesson resources are more useful, and are welcomed by parents and teachers.
Of course, except for learning at home, it is also necessary to teach children about health knowledge, especially how to keep away from touching virus and other knowledge popularization; at the same time, it is also necessary for children to do some physical exercise or some games, which is good for physical health at home.

Mr Swales wanted to find out what his students’ parents did. He had just called Jodie when some girls burst out laughing. Shirley shouted, “Jodie’s daddy is a garbageman!”
Everybody in the class laughed out loud, except Jodie. She felt her face turn red.

(2021春·江苏南京·八年级校考期末)Three teenagers offered to do some voluntary work during the school holidays. They wrote the following reports.
I did some voluntary work in a children’s hospital. The children there all suffer from serious illness. We organized a painting competition for them. I met a girl called Cindy. She wanted to paint a picture of the park near her home. I went there and took some photos of it. Cindy used them for her painting.
Betty
There are many children without parents. I met some of these children with my mother. We taught them to tell stories. This helps them express their feelings. One child said, “My friends don’t understand my pain.” We spent time with a girl called Vivien. Her parents died in a car accident, and she is unhappy and very lonely. She needs friendship. My brother and I will continue to visit Vivien.
Mark
I wanted to help disabled children. They have difficulty walking or moving. I taught them to sing because music can bring them joy and peace. I met a boy called Tim. He hurt his legs in an accident, but he has lots of courage. We need to help children like Tim and raise their spirits. I will continue to do voluntary work in the future.

76.We can most probably find this passage ________.
A.in the textbook B.in a novel C.in the travel guide D.on the website
(2021春·江苏南京·八年级校考期末)The word “charity” often brings to mind headlines like “Taylor Swift donates ‘very sizable’ amount to Hurricane Harvey survivors” and “J.K. Rowling donates $30 million to help children in need”.
But the rest of us, who are not rich or famous, may sometimes feel like we can’t really contribute to charity in a meaningful way.
But what you probably don’t know is that Swift has visited many sick children in hospitals and played the guitar and sang for them. Rowling, the UK writer who wrote the Harry Potter series, once read an unfinished Harry Potter book over the phone to a 9-year-old girl in New York because the girl had cancer and wasn’t sure if she would still be alive when the book was published.
These small kindness are just as powerful as money and fame(名气)themselves. Just as Mother Teresa(1910-1997), winner of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize, is believed to have once said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love. And together, we can do something wonderful.”
This is probably why the annual International Day of Charity, which falls on Sept 5—the same date as Mother Teresa’s birthday—was created by the United Nations back in 2013. On this day, we can clear up misunderstandings we may have about charity and think of the importance of small kindnesses.
People might already be contributing to charity without even realizing it. In the US, for example, many companies give a small percentage of the money they make to charities. And in China, Alipay has a feature called Ant Forest that takes everyday low-carbon activity—such as walking instead of driving—and turns it into virtual(虚拟的)“energy” that is used to grow virtual trees. For every virtual tree that is grown, Alipay and its partners plant a real tree in the deserts of Northwest China.
These efforts may sound too small to make a real difference, but they do. “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” as Mother Teresa once said.
77.The underlined word “contribute to” in the second paragraph means ________.
A.doing something for B.giving money to C.setting up D.organizing activities for
78.The International Day of Charity falls on the Sept 5 probably because ________.

B.it was created by Mother Teresa 8 years ago.

D.it was the birthday of United Nations back in 2013.
79.The underlined word “drop” in the last paragraph refers to(指的是)________.
A.water drops B.a real difference C.small kindness D.a virtual tree
80.The passage is written to ________.
A.tell us the importance of joining different charities
B.ask us to donate money to charity in order to help
C.ask us to plant a real three in the deserts of Northwest China
D.clear up misunderstandings we may have about charity

It’s very important for us students to learn about the environment. Many good books will help you learn. You can ask your teacher or a librarian for some advice. You can also look at some good websites with information about the environment and climate (气候) change. Climate change may be a big problem, but we can do many things to improve it.
Driving a car or using electricity (电) is not wrong. We just have to be smart about it. Some people use less energy by carpooling. For example, four people can ride together in one car instead of driving four cars to work. Whenever we use electricity, we will put some gases (气体) into the air. Turning off lights, the television and the computer when they aren’t needed, you can help a lot.
Don’t buy products that use too much energy. Some products, like certain cars, are made specially to save energy. These don’t have much pollution either. Products like computers, TVs and VCRs with the ENERGY STAR label (标签) are made to save energy. Buying products with these labels will help protect the environment.
Buy recyclable (可回收) products instead of non-recyclable ones. Recyclable products are usually made out of things that have already been used. It usually takes less energy to make recyclable products than to make new ones. So when you go shopping, look for the recycle mark (记号) on the package (包装)—three arrows (箭头) that make a circle (圈). The less energy we use, the better.
