    【安徽省江淮十校2021届高三第三次质量检测】

With the infection being brought under control, more and more galleries and museums are reopening. While many museums have been putting exhibitions online, visitors still prefer to enjoy works of art in person. Here are four major art exhibitions that are held offline.

The Palace Museum (Dec. 10—Feb. 15)

The exhibition, Everlasting Splendor which is being held in the Meridian Gate Galleries, marks the 600th anniversary of China’s imperial palace. Over 400 cultural relics are displayed at the exhibition, reflecting the history of the Forbidden City’s construction, the development of its layout, and how it has been protected and restored in the past decades.

The National Museum of China (Jan. 4—Mar. 29)

The exhibition, A Sail Over Miles, offers a brief review of the ancient Silk Road in ceramics (陶瓷). It guides visitors through the manufacturing, export and shipping routes from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty with over 300 ceramic relies, including a pot dug from Nanhai No 1, a Chinese cargo ship dating back more than 800 years. The exhibition also shows Japanese, Korean and British ceramics, reflecting the influence of China’s porcelain-making techniques in local industries.

The Capital Museum (Jan. 1—Mar. 30)

The Capital Museum is to host Man of Infinite Refinement: Special Exhibition on the Paintings and Calligraphy of Su Shi, a calligraphy and painting exhibition on the legacy of Su Shi, an iconic figure of ancient Chinese literature and fine arts. The 78 exhibits on display spans from the Northern Song Dynasty through recent history and cover a range of media, including calligraphy, paintings, documents and rarely seen books.

The National Art Museum of China (Nov. 30—Feb. 10)

On show are nearly 300 objects, including paintings, calligraphy works, carved seals, manuscripts, letters and books. Donation of Rong Geng not only reflects his academic accumulation over the years, but forms the basis for his becoming such a well-rounded scholar in the area of Chinese cultural traditions.

Rong Geng (1894—1983), a scholar of Chinese paleography, educator and connoisseur of antiquities, is little known to the general public. However, his extensive studies of ancient Chinese writings and his former collection of archaic oracle bones and bronzes continue to enrich people’s cultural life. In his lifetime, Rong donated to the State nearly 200 bronze objects, all of which are now housed at numerous public museums and universities.

1Which offline exhibition lasts the shortest period of showtime?

AEverlasting Splendor. BA Sail Over Miles.

CMan of Infinite Refinement. DDonation of Rong Geng.

2If you are interested in ancient Chinese literature and fine arts, which place are you supposed to visit?

AThe National Museum of China. BThe Palace Museum.

CThe National Art Museum of China. DThe Capital Museum.

3Which is a right description of the exhibitions above?

AVisitors can only appreciate Ancient Chinese ceramic relics at the National Museum of China.

BDonation of Rong Geng exhibits nearly 300 objects which were once donated by Rong Geng.

CAll the exhibits on display at the Capital Museum were created by Su Shi himself.

DEverlasting Splendor displays over 400 cultural relics that have a history of 600 years.

2021·山东济宁市期中)    Honeybees can't swim, and when their wings are wet, they can't fly, either. But Chris Roh and other researchers at the California Institute of Technology found that when bees drop into bodies of water, they can use their wings to produce little waves and slide toward land-like surfers who create and then ride their own waves.

As with many scientific advancesIsaac Newton's apple or Benjamin Franklin's lightning boltDr. Roh's experiment began with a walk. Passing Caltech's Millikan Pond in 2016, he observed a bee on the water's surface producing waves. He wondered how an insect known for flight could push itself through water.

Dr. Roh and his co-worker, Morteza Gharib, used butterfly nets to collect local Pasadena honeybees and observed their surf-like movements. The researchers used a wire to restrict each bee's bodily movement, allowing close examination of their wings. They found that the bee bends its wings at a 30-degree angle, pulling up water and producing a forward force. Bees get trapped on the surface because water is about three times heavier than air. But that weight helps to push the bee forward when its wings move quickly up and down. It's a tough exercise for the bees, which the researchers guess could handle about 10 minutes of the activity.

The researchers said the surf-like movement hasn't been documented in other insects and most semiaquatic (半水生) insects use their legs for propulsion (推进力), which is known as water-walking. It may have evolved in bees, they predicted.

Dr. Roh and Dr. Gharib have imagined many practical applications for bees'surfing. One plan is to use their observations to design robots able to travel across sky and sea. “This could be useful for search and rescues, or for getting samples of the surface of the ocean, if you can't send a boat or helicopter,” Dr. Gharib said.

4What does the author intend to show by referring to Newton and Franklin?

    ARoh's admiration for them.

    BRoh's chance discovery about bees.

    CTheir outstanding talent for science.

    DTheir similar achievements in discovery.

5What plays the most important role in a bee's moving forward on water?

AThe air weight. BThe bee's weight.

CThe water surface. DThe bee's continuous wingbeat.

6What does the underlined word “evolved” in Paragraph 4 mean?

    AChanged quickly. BDeveloped gradually.

    CBecame better. DBecame worse.

7What can Roh's robot do according to the passage?

AIt can search wild animals in the forest fire.

BIt can travel across sky with the aid of helicopter.

CIt can get samples of the surface of the ocean by itself.

DIt can rescue survivors from underground after earthquake.

China’s Tianwen 1 Mars probe (探测器) conducted its fourth orbital correction on Friday evening, as the spacecraft makes ready for its arrival in orbit around Feb. 10, according to the China National Space Administration.

The name comes from the long poem Tianwen, meaning Heavenly Questions or Questions to Heaven, written by Qu Yuan, one of the greatest poets of ancient China. In Tianwen, this name conveys the Chinese nation’s steady effort in pursuing truth and culture of exploring nature and the universe. CNSA also unveiled ( 发 布 ) the logo of China’s planetary exploration missions, featuring the letter C, signifying China, international cooperation and capacity of entering space.

Tianwen I has flown for 197 days and more than 465 million kilometers on its journey to the planet. It is now around 184 million km from Earth and I. I million km from Mars. Depending on the two planets’ orbits, Mars is between 55 and 400 million km from Earth. Mars probe Tianwen I is seen in its first selfies in space on Oct. 1, 2020. The administration also published a black-and-white picture of Mars taken by Tianwen I, the first snapshot (抓拍的照片) from the Chinese craft.

Tianwen I, the country’s first independent Mars mission, was launched by a Long March 5 heavy-lift carrier rocket on July 23 from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan province, kicking off the nation’s planetary exploration program.

A successful landing would make China only the second nation to place a spacecraft on the Martian planet. China would also be the first to successfully orbit, land and deploy ( 部署) a vehicle in the same mission. According to experts, searching for signs of life on Mars will be the first and foremost scientific goal. China is open and inclusive in the development of its space technology not least because it believes that the exploration of outer space should help build a community with a shared future for mankind.

8Why is Qu Yuan’s poem mentioned in the text?

ATo tell the origin of space exploration.

    BTo describe space exploration vividly.

CTo highlight the importance of space exploration.

DTo show Chinese continuous struggle in space exploration.

9The main idea of Paragraph 3 is about Tianwen I’s________.

    Afunction Bdevelopment Coperation Dstructure

10What is the essential goal of exploring Mars?

ATo build a common future for man. BTo prove our achievement in space research.

CTo discover signs of life on this planet. DTo expand the understanding of the space.

11What can we learn from the text?

ALetter C Logo symbolizes creation between countries.

BChina was the first nation to land a spacecraft on Mars.

CTianwen I made its fifth orbital correction around Feb. 10.

DTianwen I started a new chapter in Chinese planetary exploration.

What does an outdoor cat do all day? A study of more than 900 house cats shows when they kill small birds and mammals, their influence is concentrated in a small area, having a bigger effect than wild predators (食肉动物) do.

Roland Kays, a scientist at North Carolina State University and his colleagues collected GPS data from cats in six countries. “These cats are moving around their own backyard and a couple of their neighbors' backyards, but most of them are not ranging very much further,” Kays said. “So initially I thought, 'Oh, this is good news. They're not going out into the nature preserves.’”

Then Kays took how much cats kill m that small area into consideration. Some cats in the study were bringing home up to 11 dead birds a month, which doesn't include what they ate or didn't bring home.

“It actually ends up being" a really high rate of predation," Kays said. He calculates that cats can have 4-to-10 times the influence of a wild predator. Native predators, like jungle cats, also kill a lot of small animals, but their influence is spread out over a larger area. One study indicates that house cats kill billions of birds every year.

“The simplest thing to do is to keep your cat indoors,” Kays said.

For those who refuse to keep their cats inside, there are potential options. St. Lawrence University associate professor Susan Willson went looking for one. She found a special brightly colored collar online. “The whole idea is that the bird will be able to visually see the cat creeping () up on it before the cat attacks it,” she said. Willson tested the collar on both her cat and dozens of others. It greatly reduced the number of birds the cats brought home.

“I'm not saying these collars can make a significant difference in the massive bird death that we're seeing,” she said. “But each individual bird that somebody in their backyard is not finding dead, I think matters.”337

12Why does Kays say “this is good news”?

AHouse cats can be tracked by GPS.

BHouse cats won't kill birds in large numbers.

CHouse cats are protected from wild predators.

DHouse cats feel comfortable in their own backyard.

13How do wild predators differ from house cats in terms of killing animals?

AThey prefer to attack larger animals.

BThey kill 4-10 times the number of house cats.

CTheir victims are distributed in a bigger range.

DThey kill less than house cats on a monthly basis.

14What can we infer from the passage?

ABirds can't sense the danger when cats attack them.

BWillson considers keeping her cat inside a good idea.

CThe only way to protect birds is to keep them indoors.

DThe colored collar can be a sign of potential danger to birds.

15Which word can best describe Willson's attitude to using collars to save birds?

    AConcerned. BPositive.

    CDoubtful. DCautious.

    How to Handle Bullying (霸凌)

Bullying is not a sign of strength; it’s a sign of weakness.   1    People who bully may well have been bullied themselves or else they feel powerless in some other areas of their lives. They bully to give themselves power or control over something.

2    But they all cause suffering and stress-related illnesses to their victims. Bullying isn’t just physical. Emotional bullying can be just as cruel. Bullying is being constantly criticized, threatened or verbally (语言地) abused. What should you do if you are being bullied?

Write a formal letter of complaint to the bully highlighting what they are doing to you and how it makes you feel. State that although you do not wish to take further action, you would be forced to do so should the bullying continue.   3

4    This may seem like a difficult option if you are essentially a passive person. However, having more trust in yourself will not only help you to cope with bullying behavior, it can assist you in all other areas of communication in your life and help to improve relationships and your self-confidence. When the bully realizes that he or she can’t control you, you are one step closer to solving the problem.

Make the bully your friend.   5    However, when you make an attempt to understand their feelings and the reasons behind the bullying, you will no longer feel so threatened by their behavior.

    A. Learn to be more confident in  yourself.

    B. Contact a bully support line or appropriate organizations.

    C. To handle bullies, we have to understand why they harm others.

    D. They generally pick on the weak, who they feel will not fight back.

    E. Bullying takes on many forms and there are different types of bullying.

    F. This is hard, especially when you are handling negative feelings like anger and mistrust.

    G. Besides, copy the letter to your teacher, manager or lawyer, depending on who is bullying you.

Monday started out great. I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last minute studying for my first hour math test. I was confident of getting good grades. Then I left my house. Ten minutes later, I was settled with my friends on the school bus. We were busy chatting about how we spent our weekend. At one stop, Fat Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped over someone's foot accidentally and THUMP! He fell flat onto the floor.

Every one of us on the bus looked on and laughed crazily. Ryan struggled to his feet, dusted the jacket and made his way to an empty seat. He tried to laugh with us, but his face was burning with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by. I did well in my math test. I read two more chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. It wasn't long before there went the lunch bell. I met my friends from the cheerleading team in the dining hall. Then I couldn't help but notice Ryan a few tables away, sitting all alone. He caught me looking. I smiled at him quickly and looked away.

When we finished eating, we headed out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we would do at that night's football game. After a little practice, we nailed the cheer, so we decided we only needed to go through it one last time. Again, just like the rest of my day so far, the cheer was going great. I raised my leg for one last toe touch. RIIPPP! I felt my jeans split down the middle of my backside.

I froze. I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing, and I saw them pointing at my torn jeans. Trying to cover myself with my hands, I tried to laugh too, but I felt tears began to well up in my eyes.
