I. Analysis of Teaching Material
It’s a listening and speaking lesson in Grade 8. The Language goal in this unit is The Past Continuous Tense. This lesson is the first period of the unit. In this lesson, we will get a first understanding about The Past Continuous Tense.
II. Analysis of the students
1. Students in Grade 8 have learned The Present Continuous Tense when they were in Grade 7. It’s not difficult for them to understand The Past Continuous Tense. 2. Students like learning by playing as well as working in groups. So, many activities will be designed in this lesson. Students will learn efficiently and happily.
III. Teaching aims
1. Knowledge aims: (1)Key vocabulary : Rainstorm (2)Sentence patterns: 1)What was/were ...doing at the time of the rainstorm? 2) He /She/They was/were ... 2. Ability aims: (1) Talk about what people were doing at the time of the rainstorm. (2) Improve the ability of listening and speaking. (3) Enhance the ability of cooperation. 3. Moral aims: Students know they shouldn’t go to dangerous places when the rainstorm comes.

(1) Key points: 1) Students can learn the target words and expressions. 2) Students can finish listening and speaking exercise in the textbook. (2) Difficult points: 1) Talk about what were the people doing at the time of the rainstorm came. 2) Choral reading, freeze.

Make a dialogue with the partner.					通过《寻梦环游记》电影片段引入本课的关键句What sb. was/were doing....？用电影中的男孩Miguel作为本课主线。并通过图片，以教师和学生进行问答的方式让学生进一步了解过去进行时的构成。让学生观察句子找规则，培养学生总结规律的能力。为完成1b做好铺垫。提高学生听前预测的能力，降低听力难度。锻炼学生开口说的能力，用集体回答的方式帮助全班同学熟悉句型，为后面的pair work做好充分的输入。八年级学生比较害羞，用合唱式阅读的方式帮助学生能大声朗读课文，并能通过优生带动后进生的方式促进小组朗读，进一步熟悉本课句型。本课为听说课，让学生充分运用所学句型来对话，提高学生的表达能力和语言运用的能力。
