    Lesson 47: I Made It!

    设计说明

    展示彼得试卷中的拼写错误,让学生改正。让学生自由交谈自己是否也会犯拼写错误,以及如何解决这一问题,导入本课话题。结合图片和例句,学习生词短语。为了巩固记忆,要让学生熟读这些生词短语。学习新课:通过略读,让学生预测本文故事内容;通过精读并回答问题,让学生掌握文章脉络及重要细节;让学生翻译课文中的一些短语,巩固语言表达。接下来,设置小组活动,讨论彼得成功的秘诀,引导学生以彼得为榜样,改变自己,提升自己。然后,完成Let’s Do It! 中的练习。最后,讲解本课的重难知识点,并进行当堂检测,查缺补漏。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标

    掌握单词:fail, accept

    接触单词:loser, Mexico, misspelled, award

    短语:by oneself, Most-Improved Student Award, because of     

    2. 能力目标

    (1)能够读懂、听懂有关他人困难的文章;

    (2)能够总结和分析他人成功的经验。

    3. 情感目标

    鼓励学生克服困难,勇往直前。没有等来的成功,只有奋斗的喜悦。

    重点难点

    1. 重点本节课重点单词、短语。

    2. 难点

    (1)能够读懂、听懂有关他人困难的文章;

    (2)能够总结和分析他人成功的经验。

    PPT 课件;有关生词短语讲解的图片;与本课节相关的音频。

    Step 1  Warming up

    1. T: Peter made too many spelling mistakes in his exam. Can you correct his mistakes?

    The Good Lunch

    One day, my father went to the Shoping Centre. He bot bread at the bakery. On his way home, he stopped at his bruther’s hoose, “Hi”, he sayd to …

    Let the students work in groups and find out the answers.

    Answers: ShopingShopping   botbought  bruther’s—brothers  

    hoose—house    sayd—said

    2. T: Do you often make spelling mistakes? How can you overcome this problem?

    Let the students talk freely in pairs.

    Step 2  Thinking about it

    Ask the students to think about the questions and then try to answer them.

    .Are you good at spelling? What words do you think are hard to spell?

    .What English skills would you like to improve?

    Step 3  Presentation 

    1. Teach the new words and phrases: loser, Mexico, misspelled, award, fail, accept, by oneself, Most-Improved Student Award and because of.

    拼错的misspell的过去分词  

    There were some misspelled words in Peters paper. He failed his exam. So he thought that he was a loser.

    2. Get the students to read the new words and phrases aloud by themselves, and then repeat them two or three times after the teacher.

    Step 4  Reading and predicting

    1. Read the title, the first paragraph and the last paragraph. Then predict what the story is about.

    2. They can discuss it in groups.

    3. Let some groups share their opinions.

    Possible answer: It is about a boy named Peter. At first, he thought he was a loser in English. But at last, he made much progress.

    Step 5  Reading and answering

    1. Read the lesson and answer the questions. Discuss them in groups.

    (1) What’s wrong with Peter?

    (2) What mistakes does Peter make?

    (3) Why did Peter spell many wrong words?

    (4) What did Krista give to Peter?

    (5) What challenge did Peter accept?

    (6) How was Peters spelling at last?

    (7) What does Miss Martin say in order to encourage Peter?

    2. Elicit answers by asking individual students.

    Answers: (1) He just failed his English exam.

    (2) Spelling mistakes.

    (3) Because English was not his first language.

    (4) She gave him a book.

    (5) He would learn how to spell four of the misspelled words each day.

    (6) His spelling was perfect.

    (7) Your spelling was perfect in your last paper. I’m very proud of you.

    Step 6  Translating

    Ask them to translate the following phrases.

    1. notice sb. doing sth.        

    2. give up        

    3. before the end of        

    4. accept the challenge        

    5. by oneself        

    6. in front of        

    7. present an award        

    8. be excited to do sth.        

    9. be proud of sb.        

    10. because of your help

    Step 7  Group work

    T: What do you think is the key to Peters success?

    Let the students work in groups and discuss it.

    Possible answers: strong will, confidence, hard work, persistence

    Step 8  Practice

    Listen to the dialogues and tick the correct answers.(Lets Do It! No. 1)

    1. How does the boy feel?

    He feels excited.                He feels nervous.

    2.Who are the two speakers?

    A student and a teacher.          A girl and her aunt.

    3.How did Cindy do on her homework?

    She didn’t do well.             She did an excellent job.

    4. How many days are there before the end of the term?

    Seven days.                Seven weeks.

    Answers: 1. He feels nervous.  2. A student and a teacher.  3. She didn’t do well.   4. Seven days.

    Step 9  Completing

    Read the lesson and complete the passage with the correct forms of the words in the box.

    Peter came from Mexico. He _________ his English exam because he spelled too many words wrong. His friend Krista _________ that. “If I can spell, you can spell, too,” said Krista. Peter didn’t ___________ because English wasn’t his first language.

    Krista helped Peter make a study plan. Peter __________ the challenge, and he worked very hard.

    On the last day of school, Miss Martin __________ the Most-Improved Student Award to Peter. His spelling was perfect in the last exam. Peter felt so happy. He thanked Krista. Practice makes perfect! It always works.

    Complete the dialogues with the correct forms of the words above.

    Step 11  Language points

    1. Peter left Miss Martins classroom feeling like a loser. 彼得离开了马丁老师的教室,感觉自己像一个失败者。

    feel like 意为“感觉像”。

    She feels like a famous writer. 她感觉像一个著名的作家。

    【拓展】

    (1)feel like 还可表示“想要”,feel like doing sth. 意为“想要做某事”,相当于want to do sth. would like to do sth.

    I feel like going shopping this afternoon.

    =I want to go shopping this afternoon.

    = I would like to go shopping this afternoon. 我今天下午想去购物。

    (2)feel like 还可表示“摸起来像……”。

    It feels like silk. 它摸起来像丝绸。

    2. Krista, his friend, noticed him looking sad.

    他的朋友克里斯塔注意到他看上去很难过。

    notice sb. doing sth. 意为“注意到某人正在做某事”。

    Yesterday I noticed him reading in the room.

    昨天我注意到他在房间里读书。

    【拓展】notice sb. do sth. 意为“注意到某人做某事”。

    I noticed them come in. 我注意到他们进来了。

    【注意】notice 还可作名词,意为“通知;注意;告示”。

    There is a notice saying No smoking.

    有一个写着“禁止吸烟”的告示。

    3. I just failed my English exam 我英语考试没及格……

    fail可作及物动词,意为“不及格”。

    He failed his driving test. 他驾驶执照考试没及格。

    【拓展】fail还可作不及物动词,意为“失败”。

    He worked hard, but he still failed. 他工作很努力,但仍然失败了。

    【注意】fail to do sth.相当于fail in doing sth.,意为“未能做成某事”。

    She failed to get the dream job. 她未能得到那份梦寐以求的工作。

    4. But Krista was not going to let Peter give up. 但克里斯塔不想让彼得放弃。

    give up表示“放弃”,可以单独使用,也可以接名词、动词-ing作宾语。

    Dont give up! Youll make it! 别放弃!你会成功的!

    Can you give up smoking, Dad? 爸爸,您能戒烟吗?

    5. Peter accepted the challenge. 彼得接受了挑战。

    accept 动词,意为“接受”,表示主观接受。

    Shes decided not to accept the job. 她决定不接受这项工作。

    【拓展】receive动词,意为“收到”,表示客观收到, 没有主动收下的愿望。

    He received the gift, but he didnt accept. 他收到了礼物,但没有接受。

    6. He worked very hard, both by himself and with Krista.

    他学习很努力,他自己学,还和克里斯塔一起学。

    1both意为“两者都”。bothand意为“既……又……;……和……两者都”,其连接的成分作主语时谓语动词用复数。

    Tonight they will both sing and dance. 今晚他们将又唱又跳。

    Both you and I are good students. 你和我都是好学生。

    2by oneself意为“单独;独自”,相当于on ones own

    He used to travel by himself. 他过去常常独自旅行。

    Can you finish the work by yourself ? 你能独立完成那项工作吗?

    7. Its all because of your help! 这全是因为你的帮助!

    because of为短语介词,表示“因为”,后接名词、代词、动词-ing等。

    He walked slowly because of his bad leg. 他因为腿不方便而行走缓慢。

    【拓展】because是连词,后面要接一个完整的句子。

    I didnt go to school because I was ill. 我没有去上学,因为我病了。

    Step 12  Homework

    Writing: Lingling has difficulty in spoken English. Please write a letter to her and give her some advice on how to make it.
