Step 1　Warming up

Free talk. Ask the students:

1. Do you like animals?

2. What animals do you know?

3. What’s your favourite animal?

Look at the pictures. What animals can you see?

Step 2　Presentation

Work on Activity 2.

1. Ask the students to listen and check (√) the words they hear in Activity 1.

Answers: giraffe, monkey, panda, zoo

2. Work in pairs and say what you can see.

—There are three giraffes.

—Yes, and there are some zebras.

Step 3　Listening

1. Listen to a conversation about Beijing Zoo and try to answer the questions.

 1 Are there any pandas in the zoo?

  2 What’s the panda’s name?

Answers: 1 Yes, there are.　2 Lingling.

2. Play the recording again, and ask the students to listen and complete the table in Activity 3.

3. Check the answers in pairs.

1. Play the recording and ask the students to read the conversation following the recording. Then let them read in pairs.

2. Ask the students to practise the conversation in groups. And then ask some of them to act it out.

3. Look at the pictures and talk about the questions with your partners.

1. Ask the students to read the conversation and finish Activity 4 on page 37. Underline the correct words.

Step 6　Language points

1. The zoo has many kinds of animals, such as bears, zebras, giraffes and pandas. 这个动物园里有许多种动物，比如熊、斑马、长颈鹿和熊猫。

such as意为“比如”，用于列举同类人或事物中的几个例子，置于被列举的事物与前面的名词之间，其后不能用逗号。

China has many big cities，such as Beijing，Shanghai and Shenzhen．

中国有许多大城市，例如北京、上海和深圳。

I like animals, such as bears, elephants, monkeys and pandas.

我喜欢动物，比如熊、大象、猴子和熊猫。

2. They come from many different countries and they eat different food.

它们来自许多不同的国家，吃的食物也各不相同。

(1) come from意为“来自”，与be from是同义短语。

Lingling comes/is from China. 玲玲来自中国。

(2) different形容词，意为“不同的”，其名词形式是difference。

A store sells many different things. 商店出售许多不同的商品。

【拓展】be different from意为“与……不同”。

Their school is different from ours. 他们的学校与我们的不同。

3. Yes, they do, but they also eat plants. 是的，它们吃肉，但是它们也吃植物。

also副词，意为“也，而且” 。

They also eat plants. 它们也吃植物。

Jim is also in Class 3. 吉姆也在三班。

【辨析】also与too

Tom likes tigers. I also like them. 汤姆喜欢老虎。我也喜欢它们。

I like meat too. 我也喜欢肉。

4. Shall we go and see them? 我们去看看它们好吗？

“Shall we+动词原形? ”意为“……好吗？”, 主要用于征求对方的意见或者提出建议，肯定回答通常用“Yes, let’s…/OK. /Good idea. /Sure. ”等，否定回答用“Sorry，I’m afraid…/I’d love to, but…”等。

—Shall we play basketball after school? 放学后我们打篮球好吗？

—Good idea. 好主意。

5. Which is Lingling the panda? 哪个是熊猫玲玲？

which疑问代词，意为“哪一个”, 一般就某范围的事物进行提问。

Which is your football? 哪一个是你的足球？

Which is your favourite animal? 你最喜欢的动物是哪一个？

6. Is there a panda called Tony…? 有叫托尼的熊猫吗……？

“called+名词”意为“名叫……的”, 常位于所修饰词的后面，作后置定语。

It is a cat called Mimi. 它是一只名叫咪咪的猫。

He is a boy called Bob. 他是一个名叫鲍勃的男孩。

1. Play the recording and ask the students to repeat the sounds and words in Activity 5.

2. Ask some of the students to read in class.

3. Play the recording and choose /s/ or /z/.
