学情教材分析 | Textbook Analysis: This period is about a boy who use his pocket money and make one’s advantages to help other kids by buying, fixing, and giving away bikes. It will also help the students to practice their listening and speaking skills. But mostly importantly, it gives a chance for the students to train their thinking and make them further feel the meaning of helping others. Student Analysis: With the knowledge learned from Section A, the students will not feel difficult to understand the story. But there also some phrasal verbs that the students need to master.

核心素养目标 | Linguistic skill(s): To improve one’s listening and speaking skills by taking part in the activities in class actively. Language knowledge: To master the useful expression, like the phrasal verbs. Emotion and attitude: To learn something from the boy and be willing to help others in one’s own way. Learning strategy: Try to use one’s knowledge and experience to come up with an idea to help the boy continue his voluntary work. Culture awareness: To be aware that helping others is a traditional virtue of Chinese culture.

I need to come up with some way of getting money or I’ll have to stop.

T: I’m so proud that many of you once helped others. And here is a boy, Jimmy, who also likes to help others. Let’s have a look how he helped others. First, ask the students to finish 1a.
Then, complete the practice of 1b.

Match the sentences with similar meaning in 1a to have a preview of the expressions which will appear in the listening practice.
Then match the phrasal verbs with the nouns and make sentences with the phrases in 1b. | ||||||||

Play the record of 1c only , and ask the students to finish the exercises.
Then play the record of 1d once for the students and ask them to finish the exercises in 1d.

Listen to the record carefully again, and take some note maybe, then circle T or F for each sentence in 1d.
Revise one’s results if there are mistakes.

T: Now, Jimmy has run out of his money. But he still wants to help other kids by giving away bikes. What should he do? Have the students have a brainstorm in one’s group to come up with good ideas to help Jimmy solve his problems.
