Setbacks are an unavidable part f graduate schl, but t ften we try t hide them. By sharing ur whle selves, including ur failures, we went n t build a deep, meaningful relatinship. And we wanted thers t experience that penness and supprt.
We began the wrkshp by presenting ur stries nstage. Then we invited the participants t turn t ne anther and share their wn significant failures. An awkward silence fllwed, as we had expected, but it nly lasted a few secnds. Sn the students jumped int engaged and enthusiastic cnversatin. Students even frmed larger grups as they realised hw many f their clleagues shared the exact struggles they did. Even after the sessin ended, whispered cnversatins cntinued until the next speaker tk the stage.
Frm that pint frward, every presentatin included sme mentin f the failures that led t the results. It reminded us that behind every impressive result is a persn wh is just trying his best. Since the wrkshp, we have nticed a sustained change in ur classmates. The answers t questins like “Hw are yu ding?” are mre sincere and less perfunctry, and several students have mentined they feel clser t their classmates.
It's hard t relate t smene when all yu knw abut them is their accmplishments. Talking abut failure nrmalises it and prves it's nthing t be ashamed f.
