    Tips

    Step 1 Warm-up & Revision

     

           The T can show pictures of body parts, such as ear, hand, mouth

    and eye. Elicit the connection with English learning from Ss. The

    T may use the prompt:

    What is the relationship between body parts and language learning?

     

           The T can show some different pictures of learning and ask Ss to call out the ways of English learning. Pay attention to the accuracy of Ss words and remind Ss to use the target structure:

    She learns English by working with friends.

    She learns English by making flashcards.

    He learns English by reading the textbook.

    He learns English by making vocabulary lists.

    He learns English by listening to tapes.

    He learns English by asking the teacher for help.

     

           Then the T can make a summary of the English learning methods from four sides(listening , speaking, reading, writing)

           Grammar Focus

    The T can ask Ss to read aloud the sentences. Then the T can guide Ss to find the rules of the target language: by+v.-ing

    The T make Ss do the exercises in 4a. Then the T should guide Ss to say the correct answer in a complete sentence, e.g. I practice speaking by having conversations with friends.

    Answer: 1.c  2.e   3.f   4.a   5.b    6.d

    The T can check answers with different students in a conversational way so that Ss can get more practice in a natural speech.

    T: ..., how do you practice speaking?

    S1: I practice speaking by having conversations with friends.

    T: Good, I see. (To another student) So how do you ...?

    S2: I ...

    Ss do the exercises in 4b and then communicate with their partners.

    Then the T can invite some Ss to share their answers in class.

    (Note: This part includes different subjects. The T can invite Ss who are

    good at these subjects to share their answers so that other Ss can

    learn from them.)

    Suggested Answers:

    I like to learn math by solving new math problems every day.

    I like to practice my physics by doing extra exercises.

    I like to improve my chemistry by memorizing chemical terms

    and doing experiments.

    I like to practice my Chinese by keeping a diary in Chinese.

    I like to improve my history and geography watching historical

    and geographical programs.

    Ss fill in the blanks about themselves, then they can work in pairs

    and interview their partners. Then they fill in the blanks about

    their partners . The T can observe and listen to Ss conversations and offer help to Ss in need. In this part, the T should pay more attention to the Ss speaking fluency instead of accuracy.

       Then the T can encourage Ss to summarize and reflect their studying methods and make suitable studying plans.

     

    Step 3 Language points learning

     

           by+动词-ing形式,表方式、方法

    1)在此结构中,by是介词,意为“通过,使用”。

    2)该结构常用来回答how引导的问句。

           介词by的其他常见用法:

    (1)by +地点,意为靠近;在......旁边

    (2)by +时间,意为不迟于;在......之前

    (3)by+交通工具,意为 乘......(表示方式)

    (4)意为“由……所作”

           介词by组成其他短语:

    by the way顺便,顺便问一下

    by and by逐渐地

    by hand用手

    by chance偶然,碰巧

    by mistake错误地

    by oneself某人独自

    The language points are for reference only.

    Step 5   Summary & Homework

     

     

    The homework can vary with the specific conditions.

           Summary  The T can encourage Ss to summarize the key points of this class to help Ss consolidate the knowledge.

           Homework:

        Preview the new words and phrases in Section B(1a-1e).

    Do the exercises in students book.    

    Teaching Reflection

    We always learn grammar when we have enough language materials to support.Students can practice grammar by using what they have learned.After they learn the main structure in the grammar focus framethe students should practice in different activities.And we'd better give them some written work after speaking and reading.
