例题 (2021年北京卷)
I remember the day during our first week of class when we were informed about our semester(学期) project of volunteering at a non-profit organization. When the teacher introduced us to the different organizations that needed our help, my last choice was Operation Iraqi Children (OIC). My first impression of the organization was that it was not going to make enough of a difference with the plans I had in mind.
Then, an OIC representative gave us some details, which somewhat interested me. After doing some research, I believed that we could really do something for those kids. When I went online to the OIC website, I saw pictures of the Iraqi children. Their faces were so powerful in sending a message of their despair(绝望) and need that I joined this project without hesitation. We decided to collect as many school supplies as possible, and make them into kits——one kit,one child.
The most rewarding day for our group was project day, when all the efforts we put into collecting the items finally came together. When I saw the various supplies we had collected, it hit me that every kit we were to build that day would eventually be in the hands of an Iraqi child. Over the past four months, I had never imagined how I would feel once our project was completed. While making the kits, I realized that I had lost sight of the true meaning behind it. I had only focused on the fact that it was another school project and one I wanted to get a good grade on. When the kits were completed, and ready to be sent overseas, the warm feeling I had was one I would never forget.
In the beginning, I dared myself to make a difference in the life of another person. Now that our project is over, I realize that I have affected not only one life, but ten. With our efforts, ten young boys and girls will now be able to further their education.
24. How did the author feel about joining the OIC project in the beginning?
A. It would affect his/her initial plans.
B. It would involve traveling overseas.
C It would not bring him/her a good grade.
D. It would not live up to his/her expectations.
25. What mainly helped the author change his/her attitude toward the project?
A. Images of Iraqi children. B. Research by his/her classmates.
C. A teacher's introduction. D. A representative's comments.
26. The author's OIC project group would help ten Iraqi children to________.
A. become OIC volunteers B. further their education
C. study in foreign countries D. influence other children
27. What can we conclude from this passage?
A. One's potential cannot always be underrated.
B. First impression cannot always be trusted.
C. Actions speak louder than words.
D. He who hesitates is lost.
【答案】24. D 25. A 26. B 27. B

一、阅读理解01
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Wang Shuang was just five when her parents divorced, dropped her at her uncle's and left. Football, as it often is, became an escape.
At seven, she was spotted by coach Xu Yilong, who found Wang quick in her playful behaviour. As the only girl in the boys' team, Wang's performances were impressive, earning her the nickname “Iron Girl. ” And soon, she sensed the sport's power. Football allowed her to “release herself" and realize “whatever happens, football never leaves you alone. ”
However, life was never smooth sailing. The constant jibes(嘲讽)from some people, who always tried to push her down and destroy her hopes, affected her so deeply that she lost confidence. “They were saying I had no talent at all. Gradually, I felt really so. ”Wang once wrote. But never did she stop playing. When she was called up to the national team, aged 17, Wang thought, “Me? Are you sure?” When a world-famous club wanted to sign her, she was “excited that an excellent coach thought I was good. ” It was only then that she felt confident in her abilities. “I felt recognized. Perhaps I had a bit of talent after all. ”
Not any “bit of talent”; the genius is praised as China's once-in-a-generation player.
China is a pioneer of women's football in Asia and has won the continental championship eight times, including seven straight titles between 1986 and 1999. That was their golden age. Gradually, though, the dynasty declined. It is hoped that Wang will inspire the women's football of the country to its former height.
Coaches are almost always hesitant to speak about individual players. But when coach Shui was asked about Wang before the match against Vietnam, she couldn't stop mentioning her influence on the team. Unfailingly performing on the big stage, Wang did not let her team down. When they lacked a quality ball, she delivered two high assists that finally led her team into the last-four clash (四分之一决赛).
“Nobody knows how hard it was, ” declared Wang after the match. “We overcame difficulties. We also showed our strong spiritual power. I am proud of my team. ”
1.What can we infer about Wang from the second paragraph?
A.She earned a living on her own.
B.She was released from the team.
C.She was laughed at by the boys.
D.She found a sense of belonging.
2.How did Wang regain faith in her abilities?
A.By winning recognition. B.By obtaining inspiration.
C.By playing in the national team. D.By ignoring other people's jibes.

A.Conservative. B.Contradictory. C.Favourable. D.Demanding.

The Terror of the First F5 Tornado
The nonstop high plains wind suddenly fell dead still, leaving the evening air hot and heavy over Lubbock, Texas. Impossibly dark clouds hung low in the sky.
Standing in the yard outside her family’s trailer home, 12-year-old Cindy Keele saw the worry appear in her grandmother's face. “Go in and put on your shoes,” Keele’s grandmother said flatly (断然地). “We have to get to the storm cellar.”
The girl dashed inside. As soon as the screen door slapped shut behind her, hail (冰雹) began rapping against the roof. Keele yelled to her mother, “Grandma says we have to get to the storm cellar!” Then a hailstone the size of a softball smashed through the kitchen window. Another one punched a hole in the ceiling. And then came the sound: the unmistakable, ear-splitting roar of an approaching tornado.
Cindy Keele’s mother was suddenly on the same page. But getting herself, her three kids, and her mother to safety was no simple matter -the shelter was at the opposite end of the trailer park. If they didn’t drive, they’d never make it.
The five moved quickly to the family car, trying to avoid pieces of hail. At last, everyone was in the car.
“My purse!” Keele’s grandmother shouted, “My purse is still in there!”
Keele jumped out of the car and ran back into the house. She fetched the purse and dashed back into the maelstrom (漩涡). She almost made it, “As I ran to the car,” she says, “an enormous hailstone hit me in the back of the neck. I was told it was the size of a soccer ball.” The next few minutes were a blur for the girl. Her next clear memory was of inside the shelter.
“I guess there were 60 of us in there, plus dogs and cats,” Keele says. “The sound outside was deafening. And then, all of a sudden, it got quiet.” Cautiously, the group went up from underground.
“My mother ran straight for our street. What she found was-nothing.” The place where our house had been were pieces of houses, but not pieces of our house. “I’d never seen my mom cry,” Keele recalls softly. “But she was on her knees. She was broken.”

Seminole was far too accustomed to the business. Everyone sympathized with him depending on long hours, minimum wage, and ill-mannered customers. Although struggling to pay his rent, he still went all out to make those lucky enough to sit at his tables laugh. The day was going quick.
He was exhausted when he arrived to work the next day, but he went about his daily duties, putting on a brave face as customers complained about the food or questioned the bill. Usually as he prepared to close for the night, a couple of customers would sit down and order drinks. Most of the crew had left by closing time, but Seminole stayed to serve. Eventually, the last round was ordered and he gave them the bill. The minimum tip was suggested on the receipt. “Tomorrow will be better,” murmured he.
But luck wasn’t on his side. Evening approaching, a group of teenagers stepped in. Thankfully, they were polite and respectful. Their cheerful behavior began to rub off on him. As always, he did his best to make their dining experience a pleasant one.
Once they finished their dishes, he placed the bill on the table, accompanied with some candies. They placed their notes on the receipt and left smiling. When he returned to clear the table, he was shocked. The teenagers only left a tip of $3, but their total bill was more than $100. He’d gone above and beyond serving the tasty dishes. How could they be so rude?
Later that week, he struggled to let go of the awkward memories. He arrived at work and expected it to be like any other, but there was something left behind the desk for him — a two-page handwritten letter from the teenagers with $18 attached, in which they explained they were unaware of the tipping practice due to it being their first time out alone. Everything suddenly made sense.
Seminole was so touched by their gesture that he uploaded a picture of the letter sharing their admirable efforts. Web visitors voiced their opinions, and the reaction was more than positive.

A sunny morning was a great start to a cold day in a new city. I booked a taxi which, surprisingly, arrived in less than a minute, stopping at my feet.
Taxis aren’t known for their exact arrival in this city. It’s often a long wait and they always end up parking away from you, which often leads to a lot of conversations on the phone.
As I got in, I was warmly welcomed. The driver, Raju, started a conversation straight away as we set off. His conversation was full of polite English words and I could see that his vocabulary wasn’t too bad for someone who hadn’t gone beyond high school.
I was enjoying it. The only off-putting thing was the music. I asked him to turn it off and see if he liked the playlist on my phone. To my surprise, Raju knew names of the musicians and the singers. He told me his formative years were the early nineties — same as mine.
We enjoyed six old songs before we reached the destination. Raju thanked me for the music I played and refused to take any money. I knew there was no point in pressing him so I took out some chocolate and passed it to him. He was hesitant, but couldn’t say no.
After spending an hour in the market, I decided to push off. I booked a taxi and to my surprise, it was Raju again. He welcomed me with a happy smile, “The Earth is round.” I made him promise to accept the fare this time or I would cancel the booking. He agreed. I was glad there was no music playing in the taxi as I preferred to have a chat with him.
I learned Raju was a cancer survivor and the breadwinner of the family. I asked him if he needed help. He said no and told me that he would keep working hard as long as his body allowed.
Before saying goodbye, I asked if I could do anything for him. “Say something nice about taxi drivers,” he laughed and drove away.
25.What problem does the taxi usually have in the city?
A.It is hard to book. B.It is unsafe to take.
C.It is very expensive. D.It is often behind time.
26.How did the author like the music played by Raju?
A.It was pleasing. B.It was exciting.
C.It was not to his taste. D.It was not in fashion.
27.Why did the author agree to get into Raju’s taxi in the end?
A.Raju was ready to accept the fare.
B.Raju promised not to play music.
C.He desired a chat with Raju in the taxi.
D.He couldn’t call off the booking.
28.What can we say about Raju according to the text?

Local barber (理发师) goes above and beyond for a little boy
“That day started all wrong,” LaQuista Erinna said. “And we forgot his headphones. We were running late, traffic was horrible, so I knew it was going to be difficult that day.”
When Erinna and her son finally arrived at their appointment, it seemed like there was no way 6-year-old Jackson, a boy with autism (自闭症), would be getting his hair cut.
“He just immediately got anxious,” Erinna explained. “Usually I have to do some coaching to get him in the chair. He will put on his headphones, and we power through.”
Erinna said Jackson is a typical little boy who loves to play and loves art. But some tasks can be sensory overload, and haircuts are one of them.
The stress was so intense for mom and son that almost two years went by before Jackson got another haircut. But this time, he was in the hands of Ree, the barber, and things were getting easier.
Ree noticed his Super Mario Bros shirt and told him that he needed to save Mario by making sure no hair got on him. She cut his hair while he moved and ran around the shop. She talked to him throughout the entire process, encouraging him and reminding him about protecting Mario to keep him engaged.
“It just touched me so much,” Erinna said: “She nurtured that relationship. She gained his trust.”
“I feel good I can go above and beyond for a child,” Ree said. “I know children want to be free. They want to express themselves so I try to find a different strategy to make them feel comfortable”
Jackson’s smile told the rest of the story.
Erinna was very moved by her son’s haircut. She shared a video online, which has gotten millions of views. Given the huge response, Erinna also set up a special GoFundMe to support Ree to make sure she’s able to continue to work and replace any lost income from the impact of the pandemic (流行病).
