(三)、 When CAST AWAY producers wanted a survival consultant for Tom Hank’s tropical island scenes, they came to BOSS. When National Geographic Explorer wanted to film outdoor survival with industry experts, they came to BOSS. And when people feel the desire to learn traditional skills and explore the wilderness without dependence on modern equipment…they come to BOSS.
Since 1968, the Boulder Outdoor Survival School, the oldest and largest survival school in the world --- known to most simply as BOSS --- has delivered life-changing, wilderness-based experiences to adventurous people all over the world. Based out of corporate headquarters in Boulder, Colorado, we have a field office in Southern Utah’s small town of Boulder.
BOSS Courses range from 1 to 28 days in length in Utah, Colorado, and Mexico, and students range from 18 to 70 years old. Courses include field courses, skills courses, explorer courses, and custom courses. One of the reasons BOSS classes are small is to ensure that quality is maintained and that each person is given our full attention.
At BOSS, we recognize that the quality of your experience depends on the quality of your instructors. All instructors are selected for their sound judgment, strong leadership, interpersonal and communicative skills, and their broad knowledge of traditional living crafts and arts. And all instructors are offered a series of refresher-courses each year to help keep all relevant skills in top form.
True, you may never need to know how to make fire from sticks, or how to build shelters from leaves, but there is a part of all of us that benefit from this knowledge. It is only with this understanding of “primitive” philosophies and the wilderness that our culture can successfully move forward. If you are interested in walking along these paths of ancient wisdom and skill, we look forward to seeing you on the trail with us at BOSS.

    (五)、 Trip Fun
Thinking about going camping? You might want to try one of these campsites for quality and comfort!
Playa Montroig Camping Resort, Tarragona (Spain)
This Spanish campsite is a great family destination, with prices starting from €20 a night. You’ll be able to enjoy the beach by day, and you’ll have time to explore historic Tarragona in the evenings. The site has restaurants that offer traditional Spanish dishes such as Gambas al Ajillo and Albondigas. For more information, please go to www.playamontroig.com.
RCN Val de Cantobre, Aveyron (France)
France’s number one campsite is in the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park in the Tarn area. The campsite is in the grounds of a medieval house. There’s a swimming pool, a river and a pizzeria all on site. The scenery around the park is beautiful and great for walking. A week’s stay will cost you about €300. For more information, please go to www. eurocamp.co.uk.
Four Seasons Tented Camp, Golden Triangle (Thailand)
Instead of tents, there are canvas cabins ( 帆布小屋) with showers and modern conveniences. Plus, there’s a gourmet restaurant, a spa and a pool. There are only 15 cabins to rent so you’ll have to reserve your spot before availability runs out. The camp is only accessible by riverboat, but once there you can learn to ride an elephant. Unfortunately, this sort of luxury isn’t cheap, and two nights at the Four Seasons will cost you about €1, 500! For more information, please go to www. fourseasons. com /goldentriangle.
    Three Cliffs Bay, Gower (Wales)

(六)、 Most of us have an irrational fear or habit. Famous folks often seem to go one step further.
    VERY Superstitious
    Benjamin Franklin
    AN ODD MORNING RITUAL
Author, inventor, diplomat, and scientist Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790) believed that air baths had a particular effect. Before he started his workday, Franklin would sit without any clothes on for up to an hour in front of an open window on the first floor of his building. He wrote that the shock of cold water was too violent for him and it was more agreeable for him to bathe in cold air. Franklin would either read or write during his “bath”. ①
    John Steinbeck
    THE RIGHT WAY TO WRITE
John Steinbeck (1902 - 1968) wrote the first drafts of The Grapes off Wrath, East of Eden, Of Mice and Men, and most every other one of his books the same way—by hand and in pencil. And he was very particular about his pencils, requiring perfectly sharpened Black-wing 602s.
    John Wayne
    A TEN-GALLON PHOBIA
Although John Wayne (1907 - 1979) often wore a hat on his head in his films, his temper would suddenly become angry if anyone left a hat on top of a bed. According to his daughter, Wayne was deeply superstitious and subscribed to the not-uncommon fear that a hat on a bed was a sign of bad luck. ②
    Lucille Ball
    FEATHERED FOE
On the day that three-year-old Lucille Ball's father died, a bird flew into her home and became trapped. Shocked by the events, she developed a lifelong bird hatred. The actor (1911 - 1989) even refused to stay in hotels that had pictures of birds on the walls. ③
    Gustav Mahler
    BEWARE NUMBER NINE
Composer Gustav Mahler (1860 - 1911) thought he could cheat death by not naming his ninth symphony by number. This was became several composers, including Beethoven and Schubert, had died after completing their ninth symphonies. So Mahler called his ninth The Song of the Earth - and it worked, in a sense. He lived long enough to write most of his tenth symphony, though he died before it was performed.
    Michael Jordan
    UNIFORM REDESIGNER
Michael Jordan (1963 - ) reportedly began the trendsetting change from mid-thigh basketball shorts to longer ones as a way of covering up a pair of University of North Carolina shorts, which he wore for good luck under his Chicago Bulls uniform.
    Charles Dickens
    DREAM CATCHER
Author Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870) carried a navigational compass with him at all times and always faced north when he slept. He believed it improved his creativity and writing. ④
22.________ kept an irrational habit in order to improve their work.
A.Benjamin Franklin and Gustav Mahler B.Benjamin Franklin and Charles Dickens
C.Gustav Mahler and Charles Dickens D.Lucille Ball and Gustav Mahler
23.Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.A sharpened pencil was a necessity for John Steinbeck to improve his creativity.
B.Gustav Mahler refused to finish his ninth symphony to avoid bad luck.
C.Both Lucille Ball and John Wayne were afraid to certain stuff.

He believed it improved his creativity and writing.

He believed it improved his creativity and writing.
In FAMILY LONDON by Jimi Famurewa, you’ll find an extensively researched edit of unforgettable London experiences capable of keeping all ages happy. Here are just a few for tasters ...
    Lee Valley White Water Centre
One of the best toys left behind after the London 2012 Summer Olympics may be this giant, artificial riverbed. For adventurous over‑14s, the temptation to hop in a group raft will prove strong. There’s a thorough safety briefing before starting your white-water rafting adventure, and a kindly instructor will give orders throughout. Those after something easier (or under‑14s) can make a splash in the smaller Legacy Loop area. www. gowhitewater.co.uk.
    Go Ape
A longtime favorite of expert treetop enthusiasts, this outdoor adventure company also provides a smart pick for families with a taste for daringness. In fact this Battersea branch is the highest in the country, making up for a lack of forest-wandering space with a tightly packed circuit of shaky walkways through trees. www.goape.co.uk.
    Kew Gardens
With fantastic free parks littering the capital, a green space needs to be special to justify charging an entry fee. Kew — blessed with botanical gardens, a delicate Chinese pagoda and much, much more — offers value with free entry for under-4s. And there’s the Hive to explore the importance of British bees. www.kew.org.
    V&A Museum
The Victoria & Albert Museum’s sprawling mass of artistically significant artefacts may be more suited to older children but its regular family experience sessions are classy affairs, run with patience, enthusiasm and an inclusive spirit. A working artist will take you and your kids through the creation of a themed work, ranging from decorative boxes for secrets to enjoyably messy clay-sculpting. www.vam.ac.uk.
