A
Antarctica
Going to Antarctica, one of the remotest destinations on the planet, is not an easy (or affordable) endeavor. Perhaps the difficulty is part of the attraction—the seventh continent remains at the top of many travelers’ wish lists. The striking white desert, with its dramatic, snowy peaks and vibrant turquoise water, as well as its exotic wildlife, including emperor penguins and Weddell seals, can truly offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Hawaii
Hawaii is underrated. To be sure, it is a gorgeous place with breathtaking sunrise and sunset, and every beach is seemingly prettier than the next, but its beauty goes much deeper than its preternatural appearance. Extraordinary beaches—some even boast green and black sand (Papakōlea Beach and Punalu‘u Beach, respectively)—have their expected appeal, but visitors who take time to venture out away from the coast quickly discover Hawaii’s charms are everywhere.
Canada
Skiing, surfing, hiking and the Northern Lights, eclectic cuisine, world-class shopping, diverse and rich cultures—this is Canada. The 13 provinces and territories make up the world’s second-largest country by the total area. It has something wonderful for every type of traveler. Nature lovers take solace in mountains, glaciers, waterfalls and the Atlantic or Pacific coastlines while sophisticated eaters nosh at Michelin-starred restaurants and hole-in-the-wall restaurants alike.
Singapore
Travelers don’t want to spend any more time in an airport than they have to. But Singapore Changi Airport is not an ordinary airport. While the rest of the world was staying at home, Singaporean locals had paid to hang out at Changi Airport, whether it was co-working in one of the lounges or camping alongside the world’s highest indoor waterfall, which opened in 2019.
1.Which place would you like to choose if you are an animal lover?
A.Hawaii. B.Canada.
C.Singapore. D.Antarctica.
2.What is special about Canada from the text?
A.It is the second most beautiful place in the world.
B.It can almost satisfy all kinds of travelers.
C.It has some extraordinary beaches.
D.It attracts many locals.
3.What can tourists do when they stay in Singapore Changi Airport?
A.They can appreciate the world’s highest indoor waterfall.
B.They can experience Michelin-starred restaurants.
C.They can decorate the lounges together.
D.They can enjoy world-class shopping.
B
The first thing I can tell you about Thabo, my South African guide, is that he is the world’s worst driver. From the airport to the heart of the city, he drove at a speed of 100 km per hour, bypassing lorries, motorbikes and taxis crowded with people. The second thing is that he knows everybody and everything about Cape Town. This was good for me.
On the first day, Thabo took me to the suburb with an unpronounceable name—Oranjezicht—from where you could watch the sun go down in Africa. The next day we went to Cape Flats, the run-down township where the buildings were made of cardboard and rusty (生锈的)iron. It was truly vast—nearly a million people lived here, with the buildings side by side. Skinny(皮包骨的) dogs slid out of the way as Thabo zoomed along roads full of mud and rotting rubbish. Some people waved, and others stared. Children ran barefoot by the car.
Later that night we walked around the busy Victoria, Cape Town’s most fashionable area. The contrast to the township could not be sharper: the smells of cooking rose from the kitchens—Asian, French, Italian. The bars and restaurants were packed, and I soon found out why. Cape Town is a paradise for gourmets (美食家), seafood-lovers and people like me, who just like eating. We went into a charming little pub, and Thabo told me I couldn’t leave Cape Town without trying some Cape Town’s seafood, so I did. It was delicious.
On my final morning, we spent an hour sitting outside a cafe. Then we were driving again, experiencing the diverse landscape—green valleys. It was a great way to say goodbye to a place I knew only too briefly. I promised myself, and Thabo, that I would be back.
4.Why was Thabo considered the worst driver at the beginning?
A.He was a real African guide.
B.He seemed to drive fast riskily.
C.He ignored any vehicle passing by.
D.He greeted whoever he knew while driving.
5.What is the author’s impression of Cape Flats?
A.It is a beautiful area.
B.It is a lovely country.
C.It is a dirty old town.
D.It is a fashionable city.
6.What did the author enjoy doing in Victoria?
A.Tasting some tasty seafood.
B.Driving fast along muddy roads.
C.Observing the sun go down.
D.Visiting the buildings made of cardboard.
7.How did the author feel when he left Cape Town?
A.Excited. B.Uncaring.
C.Content. D.Disappointed.

Everyone loves a holiday! A little time off for some much-needed R& R (rest and relaxation) can be exactly the thing to rejuvenate and refresh you from work. So if you’re struggling to think of your next destination, then look no further. Don’t waste time debating where to go, but let your blood decide.
Everybody has a lineage(家系). Recently, finding out more about our family origins has become popular. By the start of 2019, 26 million people had taken an ancestry DNA test at home, according to a report by MIT Technology Review. They believe by 2021 this number will have risen to 100 million.
This trend has been noticed by opportunistic travel operators. Some are looking to provide a service that allows people to both track their family roots and travel to the destinations where their ancestors originated.
Airbnb, an online boarding marketplace, recently partnered with 23andMe, a DNA testing company, to offer recommendations that encourage travellers to walk in the footsteps of their forefathers. And they aren’t the only ones.
The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin has its own“genealogy butler(宗谱管家)”. Hellen Kelly offers advice to help guests track their Irish lineage using official records. This allows them to “fill in the blanks of their Irish ancestry”, she told Good Morning America.
The Conte Club, a luxury travel company, offers custom routes of travel based on DNA tests. “These experiences are about going deeper into who we really are,” says the Conte Club CEO Rebecca Fielding in an article in the Condé Nast Traveler. “It might be the most meaningful trip we can take.”
So next time you think of going on vacation, why not take a DNA test first? Once you know how far you are from your family, take time to holiday back.
8.What does the underlined word “rejuvenate” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Make one take a holiday.
B.Make one feel lively again.
C.Make one do a DNA test.
D.Make one return to work.
9.What is the main reason leading to the new travel way?
A.The creativity of the travel agency.
B.The report by MIT Technology Review.
C.The competition of the boarding market.
D.The rising number of people tracking their lineage.
10.How does the writer convince us of the rise of the new travel way?
A.By making comparisons.
B.By analyzing information.
C.By giving examples.
D.By offering reasons.
11.What’s the writer’s attitude to the new travel way?
A.Negative. B.Supportive.
C.Uninterested. D.Doubtful.

Shuikou, a village in East China’s Zhejiang province, is home to 10,000 residents, and about 30 percent of them are engaged in the homestay business. The village has developed into one of the major rural tourist destinations in the Yangtze River Delta(长江三角洲)region over the years.
As cross-provincial tourism has resumed nationwide, locals in Shuikou are back in business and looking forward to a full recovery in the local tourism industry.
Homestay owner Zheng Yunfang has been busy answering customers’ calls, taking down their information, while checking the booking status of her hostelry(旅店)since early August. “Our 18 guest rooms were fully booked over the past few weeks, and we’ve received bookings up to November,” says Zheng, who runs Ziming Mountain Villa(别墅)in Shuikou. Most of her guests have been to her place before, and they often bring in new guests during their visits. “By the look of things, business shouldn’t be a problem in the second half of the year.”
Just walking distance away from Zheng’s villa, another local homestay owner, Song Chaofeng, has begun receiving visitors as well. He is starting to harvest the reward of an earlier promotion of his homestay on the short video app, Douyin.
As an experiment, Song made a video featuring local food and landscapes earlier this year and uploaded it online after a bit of simple editing. “It was a total surprise that several thousand people watched it the next day,” Song says.
Tourist Qi Jia, from Shanghai, recently visited Song’s place with her family after flipping through Song’s Douyin account. “My child loves playing table tennis here, and my parents love the distinctive rural-style breakfast, with fresh and nutritious food that is picked right from the field. It feels right to come here,” she says.
At the moment, Song says he will focus on maintaining the quality of his homestay operations and updating his fans online on the latest developments. “Hopefully, they can all come here and experience what we have to offer,” Song says.
12.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To show us the homestay tourism recovery.
B.To tell guests how to book homestay guest rooms.
C.To know about the village of Shuikou in Zhejiang province.
D.To introduce the successful homestay examples.
13.This passage is most likely to be taken from .
A.a science magazine
B.a travel website
C.a history book
D.a daily newspaper
14.Which word best describes Song Chaofeng’s short video promotion?
A.Complex. B.Uneasy.
C.Rewarding. D.Ordinary.
15.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Homestay as the rural approach pays off
B.Douyin: The basic method of homestay operations
C.Two great successes in homestay business
D.Shuikou: The major rural tourist destination
I’ve always wanted to travel ever since I was young. 16 I deeply believe travel makes me richer, not in my wallet, but in my intelligence.
17 In general, I have a very hard time trusting people, mostly because I worry they’ll lie to or take advantage of me. Yet travel reminds me that so many kind-hearted, brave, and intelligent people exist in the world.
What’s more, exploring the world builds incredible self-confidence. I’m able to accept and embrace my weaknesses more easily after traveling to somewhere splendid and having time to reflect. 18 Travel gives me a chance to push myself beyond them and even accept them for what they are.
Travel forces me to return to nature and promote deeper appreciation of the earth. I breathe fresh air in green mountains. 19 I’m even willing to be part of nature.
Travel has made me a stronger person, and I can’t imagine my life without endless plane tickets and backpacks. Getting out of my comfort zone strengthens my self-pride. It’s a precious gift, the best one I can give myself. I feel as if I have deeper appreciation of the world now. I’m no longer closed or shallow, and consider myself very receptive to different opinions and ways of life. 20
A.We all have disadvantages.
B.The fresh air fills my lungs.
C.Travel has calmed my anxiety.
D.Travel makes me a better person.
E.Travel restores my faith in people.
F.I want to make friends through traveling.
G.The idea of travel lives inside my brain all the time.

If you’re visiting Florence, Italy, you’ve got to see the world-famous Uffizi Gallery. But why? Because that’s what 21 does in Florence? Because you feel it 22 to post a selfie in front of the Italian painter Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus (《维纳斯的诞生》)?
Those are obviously 23 reasons. We shouldn’t go to places because they’re world-famous; instead, we should go to fully 24 what makes them world-famous. But that requires a well-planned visit, not just following the 25 , taking pictures and then checking it off on your wish list.
For example, you cannot visit the Statue of Liberty (自由女神像) at all without serious 26 . “On busy days, we’re taking 25,000 people on the small island, and only 500 a day get to the statue,” said Michael Amato, the lead park ranger (管理人) for the Statue of Liberty National Monument. “Right now we’re sold out until two months later.” So you need to check when the ticket is available 27 .
Still, a lot can 28 before you actually go on the trip. “Keep yourself up to date,” said Jade McKellar, director of the visitor experience centre at the Sydney Opera House. “ 29 us on social media and sign up for our newsletter.” Even without a booking, visitors can often buy tickets for events that run 363 days a year. But like visiting many sites, a true visit means spending a full day, something a(n) 30 traveller might be unwilling to do.
Another reason to set aside more time: Visitors can check out the less famous but equally worthwhile—often beautifully complementary (互补的) sites 31 . Susan Greaney, a senior historian at English Heritage, who is in charge of Stonehenge (巨石阵), 32 a trip to the two history museums with Stonehenge-relevant exhibitions. Each of them is less than a 30-minute drive but likely to be 33 on a one-day tour of London. Of course, you can simply 34 the world-famous attraction. If you’re 35 museums by the time you get to Florence, forget the Uffizi and take advantage of other things Florence offers. Don’t worry about what your friends will think.

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West.
We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.
His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guest room of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast.“The day starts at dawn on my farm,”he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草).I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.
In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. “Don’t be late for supper,”Uncle Paul cried,“and keep to the track so that you don’t get lost!”“OK!”my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的)blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

A
根据第一段最后一句中的as well as its exotic wildlife, including emperor penguins and Weddell seals(以及它奇异的野生动物,包括帝企鹅和威德尔氏海豹)可知,如果你是一个动物爱好者,你会选择南极洲。
It has something wonderful for every type of traveler. A项“它是世界上第二美丽的地方”与第三段中的the world’s second-largest country by the total area不符;根据第二段中Extraordinary beaches可知,夏威夷有海滩,所以C项与题意不符;D项“它吸引了许多当地人”为Singapore Changi Airport的特点。
根据最后一段中的or camping alongside the world’s highest indoor waterfall可知,游客在樟宜机场可以欣赏世界上最高的室内瀑布。故选A。
4.charm n.
Extraordinary beaches—some even boast green and black sand (Papakōlea Beach and Punalu‘u Beach, respectively)—have their expected appeal, but visitors who take time to venture out away from the coast quickly discover Hawaii’s charms are everywhere.
who take time to venture out away from the coast是who引导的定语从句,修饰先行词visitors。
From the airport to the heart of the city, he drove at a speed of 100 km per hour, bypassing lorries, motorbikes and taxis crowded with people.
根据第二段中的the run-down township where the buildings were made of cardboard and rusty (生锈的)iron和Skinny(皮包骨的) dogs slid out of the way as Thabo zoomed along roads full of mud and rotting rubbish.
Cape Town is a paradise for gourmets (美食家), seafood-lovers and people like me, who just like eating. We went into a charming little pub, and Thabo told me I couldn’t leave Cape Town without trying some Cape Town’s seafood, so I did. It was delicious. 故选A。 Oranjezicht—from where you could watch the sun go down in Africa可知,C项“看着太阳落下”不是在维多利亚做的事情;根据第二段第二句中的the run-down township where the buildings were made of cardboard and rusty (生锈的)iron可知“纸板做的建筑”在Cape Flats,所以D项与题意不符。
It was a great way to say goodbye to a place I knew only too briefly. I promised myself, and Thabo, that I would be back.
【高频词汇】 1.(be) crowded with挤满了…… 2.suburb n.
A little time off for some much-needed R& R (rest and relaxation) can be exactly the thing to rejuvenate and refresh you from work.
Recently, finding out more about our family origins has become popular.
Don’t waste time debating where to go, but let your blood decide.(不要浪费时间讨论去哪里,而是让你的血液来决定吧。) So next time you think of going on vacation, why not take a DNA test first?(所以下次你想去度假的时候,为什么不先做个DNA测试呢?)
3.recommendation n.
Some are looking to provide a service that allows people to both track their family roots and travel to the destinations where their ancestors originated.
that引导定语从句且在从句中作主语,修饰先行词service;both...and...
故选A项。
He is starting to harvest the reward of an earlier promotion of his homestay on the short video app, Douyin.
故选A项。 The village has developed into one of the major rural tourist destinations可知,D项“水口:主要的乡村旅游目的地”是文章提及的一个方面,但不足以概括文章主旨。
居民 2.be engaged in 从事

One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. Its unexpected appearance frightened my horse, which made it run wildly. I tried my best to control it, but in vain. Frightened as I was, I tried to keep my balance to prevent myself from falling off. Fortunately, minutes later, the horse stopped before a river, out of breath, and so did I. At that moment, my dad also came up. Seeing I was OK, he was quite relieved. But it was clear that we got lost.
Paragraph 2:
We had no idea where we were and it got dark. We didn’t know where the farm house was. What we could do was to go back along the previous tracks slowly. But it was really difficult for us in such a dark situation. Just as we were at the point of desperation, we heard a faint voice from the distance. “It must be Uncle Paul,” I said. So we cried back with excitement. Finally, Uncle Paul safely brought us back home. What an amazing ride!

A

3.recovery n.恢复,复苏 4.take down 记下 5.promotion n.
I’ve always wanted to travel ever since I was young.
故选A。
Travel forces me to return to nature and promote deeper appreciation of the earth. I breathe fresh air in green mountains.
Travel has made me a stronger person I’m no longer closed or shallow, and consider myself very receptive to different opinions and ways of life.
3.incredible adj.
5.strengthen v.
In general, I have a very hard time trusting people, mostly because I worry they’ll lie to or take advantage of me.

On busy days, we’re taking 25,000 people on the small island, and only 500 a day get to the statue可知,每天能参观自由女神像的游客数量有限,所以在去之前要仔细地计划。

Each of them is less than a 30-minute drive but likely to be 33 ...
故选A项。

展览 5.take advantage of 利用
Susan Greaney, a senior historian at English Heritage, who is in charge of Stonehenge (巨石阵), recommended a trip to the two history museums with Stonehenge-relevant exhibitions.
a senior historian at English Heritage是Susan Greaney的同位语;who引导定语从句,修饰先行词Susan Greaney;with Stonehenge-relevant exhibitions作后置定语。
故填so。
本句运用了it takes/took some time to do sth.,意为“花费多长时间做某事”,故填it。
38.who/that 考查定语从句。 故填who或that。
be free from...
根据句意,动词invite与主语we之间是被动关系;结合时间状语“On the last day of our weeklong stay”可知,此处使用一般过去时的被动语态。

Para. 2
We had no idea where we were and it got dark.
