Longji Rice Terraces

These terraces were built by the local Zhuang and Yao people, to ⑨whom_Guangxi_is_home. ⑩Starting in the Yuan ⑪Dynasty, work on the terraces took hundreds of years, until its ⑫completion in the early Qing Dynasty. ⑬Reaching ⑭as_far_as_the_eye_can

龙脊梯田是广西当地的壮族和瑶族居民建造的。梯田从元⑪ ________开始修建，历经数百年，直到清朝初期才⑫ ________。目之所及，梯田包裹着巍峨的高山，往往从山脚下一直盘绕到山顶。

So why did these people go to so much trouble ⑮to turn the entire mountains into terraces? Firstly, there are few large, flat areas of land in the ⑯region. ⑰Building the terraces ⑱therefore meant that they could increase the areas in ⑲which_they_could_grow_rice. Secondly⑳although_the_region_has_plenty_of_rain,_the mountains are steep  the soil is shallow. The flat terraces catch the rainwater  prevent the soil from being washed away．

 perhaps what_is_most_significant_is the way in which_people_have_worked_in harmony_with_nature to make these terraces  grow rice. The terraces are cleverly designed, with hundreds of waterways that_connect_with_each other. During the rainy season, it is along these waterways that_rainwater_moves_down_the_mountains _into_the_

terraces. The sun heats the water  turns it into vapour. This forms clouds from which_rain_falls_down_onto_the_mountain_terraces_once_again. These terraces also provide a perfect environment for birds and fish, some of which_feed_on_insects_that_can harm_the_rice crops．

但也许最值得注意的还是人们与自然 ________ 相处的方式来建造梯田并种植水稻。这些梯田 ________巧妙，其间有几百条水路相互连接。在雨季，雨水会沿着这些水渠从山上流下进入梯田。水分经太阳蒸发成为________，水蒸气形成云，而雨水又从云中再次落到山上的梯田里。这些梯田也为鸟类和鱼类提供了一个绝佳的栖息地，而一部分鸟和鱼又以________水稻________的昆虫为食。

Although_modern_technology_could_help_produce_more_crops, these terraces still mean a lot to the local people for_whom_traditions_hold_much_value. This knowledge is passed down through families, which_means that_new_generations_continue_to_use_ancient_methods_of agriculture_to_maintain_the_terraces. Today, the Longji Rice Terraces attract thousands of visitors who_come_to_admire_this_great_wonder created by people  nature  working together．

尽管现代技术有助于提高农作物的产量，但对珍惜传统的当地人来说，这些梯田依然具有重要的意义。这种认识通过家族代代相传，这意味着后代子孙一直沿用古老的________耕种方式维持着梯田的运作。今天，龙脊梯田吸引了成千上万的游客前来欣赏这由人与自然共同创造的壮丽奇观。
