Step 1 Pre-reading
1. Revise the wrds learned last lessn. Shw sme pictures f different kinds f bad weather cnditins and natural disasters. Ask students t tell the name ne by ne.
2. Tell students that an earthquake is a natural disaster that can cause great damage r lss f life. Ask if they knw what will happen when an earthquake takes place. Elicit any infrmatin abut an earthquake they knw.
3. Shw pictures abut an earthquake and present sme new wrds abut it, e.g. shaking, bmb, fear, scream, directin, wildly. Then ask students t read the new wrds tgether.
4. Talk t students abut the cntext f Timmy’s stry. Elicit any infrmatin abut the Taiwan earthquake in 1999 frm students. E.g. The earthquake tk place n 21st September 1999. Mre than 2,300 peple died and abut 12,000 buildings fell dwn. It’s believed t be the strngest earthquake t have hit Taiwan last century.
Step 2 While-reading
Tell students that Timmy is a lucky by. He survived the earthquake and wrte a stry abut it. Ask them t read thrugh Timmy’s stry silently and try t answer the tw questins.
