    Step 1 Lead-in
    T aruses Ss’ interest in the class by asking questins.
    Did yu jin any schl club in the middle schl? What was it?
    Why did yu jin this club?
    T: Hell, everyne. As we knw, a schl club enriches students’ schl life and helps students develp different skills, s did yu jin any schl club in the middle schl? What was it? Why did yu jin this club?
    S1: I used t be in the Dancing Club t make new friends and imprve my dancing skills. What’s mre, by learning t dance in public, I was als mre cnfident.
    S2: I used t be in the Swimming Club and I jined this club mainly t lse weight and imprve my health.
    T intrduces different schl clubs, takes the Film Club as an example and infrms Ss f the purpses f jining the Film Club.
    T: As a matter f fact, there are many schl clubs in ur schl, fr instance, the Film Club, the Phtgraphy Club, the Dancing Club, the Calligraphy Club and s n.
    Take the Film Club as an example. By participating in these activities, we can learn t appreciate sme gd films, make a micrfilm, enrich ur schl life, braden ur hrizns, and develp ur aesthetic ability.

    Step 2 Revisin
    T asks Ss t recall the structure f Maggie’s prpsal.
    T: We knw that Maggie wants t start a new schl club and has handed in her prpsal t Mr Zhu. D yu still remember the structure f her prpsal?
    T: A prpsal usually requires such infrmatin as club name, club leader, meeting time, club aim, club activities, materials needed, plan fr finding new members. Yu als need t sign yur name at the end f the prpsal.

    Step 3 Talking in pairs
    T guides Ss t chse ne schl club that interests them and asks Ss t share their ideas fr starting a new schl club with their partners.
    T lists useful wrds and expressins t help students with their talk.
    T: In rder t make students’ schl life mre clurful, yu have the intentin f starting a new schl club. Nw chse ne schl club that interests yu mst and share yur idea f starting a new schl club with yur partner, using these useful expressins. These useful expressins are helpful in getting yur ideas acrss t thers. When talking with yur partner, please keep the structure f a prpsal in mind.

    T: We can start like this.

    Step 4 Presentatin
    T: All f yu have shared yur ideas fr starting a new schl club with yur partner. Nw, time fr sme grups t share yur ideas with us.
    S1: I’d like t start a calligraphy club s that students can pay mre attentin t calligraphy and feel mre prud f Chinese culture.
    S2: Sunds great! What’s yur plan fr each meeting?
    S1: We plan t invite teachers t teach us hw t write Chinese characters better at each meeting. Then we practice writing.
    S2: Club members can als raise questins, make cmments n each ther’s writing and imprve their writing.
    S1: Great idea! What materials d yu think we need?
    S2: We need writing brushes, paper and ink.
    S1: Sure. Hw can we find new members?
    S2: Let’s make psters and put them up arund ur schl.
    S1: Perfect! I als plan t attract mre students by putting a ntice n ur schl website.
    S2: We’ll meet fr an hur each week. What abut Sunday afternns, frm 4 p.m. t 5 p.m.?
    S1: Great! Let’s finish ur prpsal!

    Step 5 Writing a prpsal
    T instructs Ss t write their prpsal based n the infrmatin frm parts A, B, C.
    T: Frm yur presentatin, I find that mst f yu have had a gd knwledge f the structure f a prpsal fr a new schl club. It’s time fr yu t write the prpsal. When writing it, cmbine yur ideas frm part C with the infrmatin in parts A and B. T make yur writing lgical and better, yu are suppsed t plan yur writing ahead f time.
    Activity 1: Planning
    T asks Ss t pay attentin t the text type, the structure and the language.
    T explains the text type f the writing—a prpsal, and intrduces the purpse f a prpsal—t get the reader t agree t yur suggestin r plan.
    T: When planning the writing, yu shuld pay attentin t the text type, the structure and the language. As fr the text type, in this class yu are ging t write a prpsal. D yu knw what is a prpsal and what is its purpse?
    T: A prpsal is a frmal suggestin r plan. And its purpse is t get the reader t agree t yur suggestin r plan.
    T guides Ss t pay attentin t the structure f a prpsal, telling them t separate different types f infrmatin t make it easy t read.
    T: Besides paying attentin t the text type, it is imprtant t separate different types f infrmatin t make yur prpsal easy t read. After all, yur purpse is t get the reader t agree t yur suggestin r plan. Therefre, hw yu shuld structure yur prpsal really matters. Please refer t page 9, part B.
    T leads Ss t pay attentin t the language f a prpsal: frmal and cncise
    T: Finally, the language f the prpsal is als imprtant. Since a prpsal is a frmal suggestin r plan and the target reader f yur prpsal is yur schl principal, yu shuld use frmal language. Als, it shuld als be brief and cncise, prviding nly the mst imprtant infrmatin.
    4. T asks Ss a questin: what are the features f frmal language? T then infrms Ss f the features f frmal language: being serius and bjective, aviding cntractins and using relatively cmplex sentence structures.
    Activity 2 Writing
    Ss write their prpsal.
    T: Since we have planned well, nw let’s write the prpsal. Please refer t page 9, part B.
    Activity 3 Checking
    T asks Ss t figure ut what mistakes they shuld pay attentin t when checking the writing.
    T: It is imprtant t check yur writing after yu finish. What aspects shuld we pay attentin t when checking the writing?
    T: Excellent! Yu are suppsed t check if there are any mistakes in terms f punctuatin, spelling, grammar, chice f wrds, style (frmal/infrmal), structure.
    2. T asks Ss t find mistakes in their wn writing and crrect them.
    T: Find mistakes in yur writing, and then crrect them.
    3. T asks Ss t make cmments n each ther’s writing, read the cmments thers make and imprve their writing accrding t ther’s cmments.
    T: It is a gd idea t wrk in pairs t read and edit each ther’s writing. During the prcess, yu are suppsed t give different types f cmments, including praises, suggestins and crrectins. Finally, pay attentin t the cmments yur partner give n yur writing and then imprve yur writing.
