The largest bk festival in the wrld began in 1983 and takes place every year in Charltte Square Gardens, in the centre f Edinburgh. There are mre than 700 events fr children and adults wh lve bks. Yu can meet many authrs, talk t them, ask them t sign a bk r listen t them talk abut their stries. Children can listen t stries and watch painters draw pictures.
The Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival
Music lvers cme t this festival t enjy music shws arund the city. One f the highlights f this musical event is the street carnival, which is free t all. Artists perfrm street theatre, dance and circus shws in amazing cstumes, and everyne can participate in the dancing.

The Sister Rice Festival is held every year in Guizhu's Taijiang Cunty, where 97 percent f the l68, 000 peple are frm the ethnic（民族的）Mia grup. It is an ancient traditin, which brings men and wmen tgether thrugh fd, gifts and music.
In the days befre the festival, yung wmen gather leaves and wild flwers, which they use t dye（给……染色）sticky rice with bright clrs. This brightly clred rice, knwn as Sister Rice, gives the festival its name. During the festival, the yung wmen dress in beautiful traditinal clthes with large amunts f silver jewelry（首饰）.
The festival includes parades, hrse races and musical perfrmances. But the real fcus is the interactin between the yung wmen and the yung men wh visit frm surrunding villages and sing sngs. In ne traditinal type f sng, a man and a wman take turns t sing t each ther, and the first ne t make a mistake lses the game. The lser must give the winner a gift, but the winner is expected t give a gift in return, t.
After meeting the men, the wmen send them hme with a bamb basket cntaining dyed rice and hidden bjects with special meanings. Fr example, a pair f chpsticks indicates that she wants t marry the man, while garlic shws that she is nt interested.
One f several stries abut the e festival's beginning is abut a girl and a by wh fell in lve. The girl's parents wanted her t marry her uncle's sn. She refused, and the by likewise refused t marry anyne else. Fr a time, they culd nly meet in a field and pass hidden messages t each ther thrugh rice in a bamb basket. Finally, the pair vercame their parents' ppsitin and were allwed t marry.
The Sister Rice Festival is perhaps the ldest festival in Asia that encurages lve.
