Once their scre drps under 18, peple experience quite a bit f impairment frm memry lss and cgnitive decline.

Researchers als tested a mre stricter type f Tai Chi, called Cgnitively Enhanced Tai Chi, where they prvided extra challenges. Fr example, participants were asked t spell a wrd, backward and frward, as they mved thrugh a series f Tai Chi mves. The peple wh practice this type f cgnitively enhanced Tai Chi imprved their scres by abut 3 pints, meaning they are given six extra years f cgnitive functin.

(2024·江苏省南通市名校联盟)On a chilly autumn mrning in the Italian cuntryside near Larderell, Tuscany, the misty landscape reminded me why the area is nicknamed the Devil’s Valley. The land here is a web f natural cracks in the rck that let a mix f steam and gases reach the surface.
Unlike the rlling hills and cypress-lined rads f ther parts f Tuscany, the landscape here is cvered with dzens f grey cling twers puffing white vaprs. The deafening rar f a turbine (涡轮机) at the Valle Secl gethermal (地热的) plant breaks the quietness, but its vilent spinning transfrms steam rising frm undergrund int energy fr 150,000 families in the regin. Abut 30% f Tuscany’s electricity cmes frm this energy surce. After prducing electricity, the leftver steam heats water fr nearby districts.
This undergrund energy has recently prved a vital resurce. Italy greatly depended n Russian fssil fuels and in 2023 Italians bre the wrld’s highest husehld electricity bills. Factries cut dwn prductin and husehlds had t turn dwn their heaters. But residents f the Larderell area spent the winter in warm hmes, thanks t the lcal gethermal plants wrking 24/7.
Brun Della Vedva, president f the Italian Gethermal Unin, hpes that in the future ther Italian regins culd benefit frm such a resurce, which is extremely imprtant when the whle wrld lks t transitin t renewable energy.
While cuntries like Iceland and Kenya are taking advantage f their gethermal resurces, the industry’s grwth has made slw prgress in Italy. High set-up csts and difficulties in extractin present significant barriers. And new plants ften run int ppsitin frm nearby cmmunities ver health cncerns.
Italy sits n a gethermal sweet spt. Especially belw Larderell, as Della Vedva says. A vast reservir (储备) f steam and water is trapped between Earth’s inner heat and a layer f clay-heavy rcks. High temperatures lead t the frmatin f steam directly inside the reservir, prviding a significant surce f energy.
But while heat frm Earth’s cre is practically endless, the water it heats within the planet are nt. S Della Vedva says restring undergrund water supplies and using them sustainably is critical fr the future. “We can’t take advantage f a gethermal resurce at will,” he says.
    8. What is the secnd paragraph mainly abut?
    A. The landscape in the cuntryside.
    B. The intrductin t a gethermal plant.
    C. The applicatin f gethermal energy in Tuscany.
    D. The prcess f turning undergrund steam int heat.
    9. Why has gethermal industry develped slwly in Italy?
    A. Peple near new plants bject t it.
    B. Gethermal plants cut dwn their prductin.
    C. There is very little undergrund water and steam.
    D. Peple use less electricity by turning dwn heaters.
    10. What is Della Vedva’s attitude t the prspect f gethermal energy?
    A. Unfavrable.B. Unclear.C. Optimistic.D. Cautius.
    11. What des the passage mainly talk abut?
    A. Where des gethermal energy lead Italy?
    B. Is the heat frm Earth’s cre really limitless?
    C. Can energy frm undergrund help pwer Italy?
    D. Hw can gethermal energy be used scientifically?

There’s als a device t cmmunicate with divers in the bispheres.
Slar panels (太阳能电池板) n the rf f the cntrl twer pwer the fans that create airflw inside the bispheres, and because the temperature inside and utside the bispheres is cnsistent, there’s n need t expend energy n the heating r cling systems needed fr traditinal greenhuses.
The underwater garden desn’t require pesticides (杀虫剂) since bugs can’t reach the plants, and thugh mre research is needed, the cmpany ntes n its website that the higher-pressure cnditins underwater appear t help plants grw mre quickly.
The cmpany is nw ready t shift frm the research phase f develpment t ptimizing (优化) its bispheres fr industrializatin, with the gal f expanding them ff castlines arund the wrld. T achieve the aim, the startup is nw taking advantage f “digital twin” technlgy t precisely simulate (模仿) every aspect f its underwater garden.
Even with all the ptimizatin ptential ffered by technlgy, Gamberini admits it’s hard t imagine the prduce grwn in his startup’s bispheres ever cmpeting financially with traditinally grwn crps. Still, he hpes the system’s sustainability will be enugh t draw custmers.
    12. What des Gamberini’s cmpany use “bispheres” mainly fr?
    A. Ding scientific research n marine life.
    B. Creating a habitat fr underwater animals.
    C. Mnitring climate change effects n castal regins.
    D. Grwing different types f plants thrugh underwater agriculture.
    13. Hw is the temperature maintained inside the bispheres?
    A. By temperature regulatin by divers.
    B. By advanced heating and cling systems.
    C. By slar panels n the rf f the cntrl twer.
    D. By natural climate cnditins f underwater envirnment.
    14. What can we infer abut Gamberini’s cmpany?
    A. It has little negative influence n the envirnment.B. It negatively affects cean bidiversity.
    C. It leads t much use f pesticides.D. It cntributes t climate change.
    15. What is the best title fr the text?
    A. Grw Plants Under the SeaB. The Creative Wrld f Keeping Animals
    C. Explre the Depths f Underwater FarmingD. The Challenge f Grwing Greens Underwater
