When I landed in Lndn by myself fr the first time. I wndered why I had thught this was a gd idea. My fears didn’t g away until the next mrning I met up with the tur grup.
I have lived my entire life in the U.S. , s it is s amazing t visit a place like the Clsseum (角斗场) in Rme that was built ver 1, 500 years befre America was discvered! Many buildings I have always cnsidered histrical in the U.S. are very mdern in cmparisn t thse in Eurpe. The mre f the wrld I see, the mre I want t discver the rest f it.

T develp ne’s taste in English, the mst effective way is t read English bks widely. Yet ne may be at a lss t chse the prper bks, especially as a beginner. As a native Spanish, I wuld like t share sme f my reading experience.
My first English nvel was Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, recmmended by many English teachers and prfessrs as an ideal bk fr English learners. But my experience was smewhat hrrible. I had great difficulty in understanding the nvel, let alne enjying it. It’s nt the vcabulary that trubled me, but rather the way Austen cnstructs sentences, and her way f thinking, which seemed rather unfamiliar t me at that time. My fading enthusiasm was much recvered after reading Hemingway’s nvel-A Farewell t Arms. N lng and puzzling sentences. And I particularly liked his brief style. S my first suggestin is, as a beginner, yu’d better chse mdern nvels instead f classical nes.
Hwever, if yu limit yurself t nvels, yu will miss a lt f treasures. Besides, English essays als play a key rle. They can at nce infrm yu, entertain yu, and imprve yur taste in English. The best example is Bertrand Russell’s wrk. Its language is plain, yet yu cannt help feeling the elegance and the special sense f humr. His simple language enables his philsphy within the reach f rdinary peple. Therefre, here cmes my secnd suggestin-essays are als vital.
Never fllw thers’ recmmendatins and pinins blindly, hwever famus r influential the persn might be. We shuld be pen t varius ideas, but always think independently and determine fr urselves. As a saying ges, ne man’s meat is anther man’s pisn. With that in mind, we are bund t find ut ur favrite writers thrugh reading and develp ur fine taste in English.

A.Difficult cnversatins.
B.The ld-fashined vcabulary.
C.Nt knwing the scial backgrund.
D.Sentences and Austen’s way f thinking.
29.What des the underlined wrd “vital” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Imprtant.B.Challenging.
C.Typical.D.Cnvenient.
30.What advice des the authr give in the last paragraph?
A.Cmpare bks befre buying.
B.Read bks that are influential.
C.Dn’t blindly fllw thers’ chices.
D.Chse bks that challenge us mst.
31.What is the authr’s purpse f writing the passage?
A.Give cmments n literature wrks.
B.Tell beginners hw t chse English bks.
C.Encurage peple t read mre English bks.
D.Recmmend first class bks t English learners.

While telling thers yur zdiac sign ( 星座), yu are being evaluated ( 评估). Evaluatins are being made abut yur luck, yur persnality, future develpment and hw yu will d in a given year. S what is the Chinese zdiac, exactly? It's a 12-year cycle labeled ( 标记) with animals, starting with a Rat and ending with a Pig. Fr example, if yu were brn in 2004, yu are a Mnkey.
The Chinese believe sme animals are luckier than the thers, such as the Dragn. Unlike in Western traditin, the Chinese Dragn stands fr pwer, strength and wealth. It's everyne's dream t have a Dragn baby. Ma Yun's parents must have been very prud. And they are nt the nly nes. In 2012, the Year f the Dragn, the birthrate in China increased by abut 5%. That means anther ne millin mre babies. With a traditinal preference fr baby bys, the by-girl rati that year was 120 t 100. When thse Dragn bys grw up, they will face much mre serius cmpetitin in lve and jb markets.
Accrding t the BBC and Chinese gvernment reprts, January 2015 saw a peak f cesarean sectins ( 剖腹产术高峰). Why? That was the last mnth fr the Year f the Hrse. It's nt because they like hrses s much, it's because they try t avid having unlucky Gat babies.
Tiger is anther unwelcme animal, because f its dangerus and unstable ( 不稳定的) persnality. Many Chinese places saw a cnsiderable decline f birthrate during thse years.
Perhaps ne shuld cnsider zdiac in a different way, as thse Tiger and Gat babies will face much less cmpetitin. Maybe they are the lucky nes. I went thrugh the Frbes tp 300 richest peple in the wrld, and it's interesting t see the mst unwelcme tw animals, the Gat and Tiger, are at the tp f the list, even higher than the Dragn. S maybe we shuld cnsider that it's much better t have less cmpetitin.
32. What can we infer frm Paragraph 2?
A. Dragn bys are much mre cmpetitive when grwing up.
B. There were abut ne millin dragn babies in 2012.
C. There were 20% mre bys than girls brn in 2012.
D. Ma Yun is prud that he is a Dragn.
33. Why was there a peak f cesarean sectins in January 2015?
A. Peple wanted t have Hrse babies very much.
B. Peple cnsidered Gat babies t be unlucky.
C. It's the first mnth f the year.
D. Peple tried t avid dangers.
34. What des the underlined wrd “decline” in Paragraph 4 prbably mean?
A. Drp. B. Need. C. Increase. D. Change.
35. What des the authr say abut Tiger and Gat babies?
A. They have fewer cmpetitrs. B. They are difficult t get alng with.
C. They will be mre ppular in jb markets. D. They will becme richer than Dragn babies.
