Stephen didn't becme an A student. Still, he managed t pass mst f his curses by being in class every day, turning in all f his assignments n time and breaking dwn his studying int bite-sized parts. By passing curse after curse, he began t gain a measure f self-esteem.

There was a time when a trip t the supermarket in the United States ften ended with seemingly simple questin frm the cashier, "Paper r plastic?" Well, which type f bag wuld yu chse?

Hw can this be true?
Studies shw that paper bag prductin requires fur times as much energy as plastic bag prductin. And the amunt f water used t make them is twenty times larger. Besides, the influence n frests is very serius. It takes abut furteen millin trees t prduce ten billin paper bags, which happen t be the number f bags used in the United States yearly. In terms f recycling, the idea that paper bags are mre envirnment-friendly than plastic nes can be quickly discarded. Research shws it requires abut 98% less energy t recycle plastic than it des t recycle paper.
Even thugh paper bags might be mre harmful than plastic nes, plastic still seems t be cnsidered as the mre harmful f the tw by gvernments. In Ireland,fr example, a tax has been intrduced t discurage the use f plastic bags. Peple have t pay 22 cents fr every plastic bag, and as a result, their use has drpped quickly.
There's n dubt that it makes mre sense t reuse these bags. Hwever,we dn't seem t be ding that at present. That may be because they fall apart quickly. If s, clth bags are a better chice, but still, their prductin als has a bad influence n the envirnment. S what t d? Hw shuld we answer the questin f“Paper r plastic?" It seems that we first need t ask urselves ne mre general questin:“What can I d t help the envirnment?”
8.Why des the authr ask the questin at the end f paragraph 1?

C.T shw the kindness f the cashier. D.T intrduce the pint fr discussin.
9.Cmpared with plastic bags, paper bags________.
A.need mre water t prduce B.require less energy t recycle
    C. have less influence n frests D.make mre time t break dwn
    10. What des the underlined wrd “discarded” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
    A.Shared. B. Discussed C. Given up. D.Put frward.
    11. Which questin des the authr prbably hpe the cashier asks?
A.Paper r clth? B.A new bag r yur wn ne?

It isn't just the beauty f vast natural wnders like the Grand Canyn that can take yur breath away. Yu can find awe in everyday things. A new research, published in the jurnal Emtin , fund that lder adults wh tk“awe walks" felt mre psitive emtins in their daily lives.
In the study, 52 lder adults aged 60 t 90 were divided randmly int tw grups. They were tld t take at least ne 15-minute walk each week fr eight weeks. Vlunteers in the "awe grup" were instructed in hw t inspire awe as they walked."We asked them t try t see the wrld with fresh eyes—t take in new details f a leaf r flwer, fr example" Sturm says. Fr example, ne participant frm the awe grup wrte abut "the beautiful fall clrs and hw the leaves were n lnger crunchy (嘎吱响) underft because f the rain"—the wnder that small children feel as they embrace(拥抱) their expanding wrld. Hwever, peple in the ther grup were less fcused n the wrld arund them. One participant wrte, I thught abut ur vacatin in Hawaii next Thursday."
In additin, participants were asked t take selfies in the beginning, middle, and end f each walk. Researchers fund that participants wh tk awe walks shwed a “small self”, in which they filled less f their phtgraphs with their wn image and mre with the backgrund scenery. "When we feel awe, ur attentin shifts frm fcusing n urselves t fcusing n the wrld arund us," Sturm says. "Awe affects ur scial relatinships because it helps us t feel mre cnnected with the wrld, universe, and ther peple." Their smiles als grew brader by the end f the study. "We analyzed the degrees f their smiles in the selfies, and participants wh tk awe walks displayed greater smiles ver time than thse wh tk cntrl walks. The frmer reprted greater psitive emtins in general, including mre jy and gratitude."
Participants in the cntrl grup tk mre frequent walks than thse peple in the awe grup, the researchers discvered. But walking mre didn't result in psitive changes in emtinal health r in the way their selfies were taken. This suggests that the results were mainly due t experiencing awe, and nt just in spending time exercising.

    A. T take a walk each week. B. T fcus n their inner wrld.
    C. T cllect leaves after the rain. D. T explre with childlike curisity.
    13. What can we see in the selfies frm the awe walks?
    A. Clse-up images with wide smiles. B. Mre attentin t themselves.
    C. Simply the backgrund scenery. D. Small figures with bigger smiles.
14.What can we knw frm the last paragraph?
    A. Experiencing awe matters. B. Mre walks, mre jy.
    C. Exercises can benefit us. D. Awe cmes with walking.
    15. Which f the fllwing can be the best title?
    A. Awe Walks Prmte Yur Physical Fitness.
