A
Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been home-schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone, I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier after you know it.
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
1. What can we infer from Sharon about high school?

My wife’s birthday falls at the beginning of spring when the winter chill still hangs over the approaching warmth.
On that day, I came home from work, stopped her from entering the kitchen and asked her to dine out. “Has Lily called?” she asked. I shook my head. The atmosphere at the dinner was oppressive. My wife kept glancing at her phone, showing no signs of appetite.
Early the next morning, my wife got up, dark rings encircling her eyes. We only have one child. When Lily still lived at home, every year when her birthday approached, we would start the grand preparations days in advance. And after she left for college, my wife would call her countless times from morning till night. How could she ignore all our love and utterly forget her mum’s birthday? On the way to work, I texted Lily, “Your mum didn’t sleep well last night.”
Another day concluding, we were about to go to bed when there was a sound of a key rattling in the lock. In came our daughter, face red with cold, birthday cake in hand. “Sorry, Mum. Happy birthday!” she said, tears welling up. Immediately, my wife pulled Lily into a hug, complaining, “You silly girl, why do you come all the way back at such a time? Don’t you know it is cold outside?”
Lily just stayed two hours in case of missing her classes. Seeing Lily boarding the train, my wife started blaming me for that message, yet in a better mood. I did feel I handled this matter perfectly both for my wife and my child’s growth.
Later, I called my parents and told them about it. I never thought they would respond with a long silence, and then said: “How many times have you forgotten our birthdays? Has either of us ever complained?”
4. What does the underlined word “oppressive” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Relaxing. B. Funny. C. Unique. D. Heavy.
5. What can be inferred about the woman in paragraph 3?
A. Watching TV is her daily routine. B. She set her phone in silent mode.
C. Some anxiety is felt of the woman. D. She wasn’t satisfied with her dinner.
6. Why did Lily burst into tears on seeing her mother?
A. She was overjoyed to see her mother.
B. She felt sorry about forgetting her mother’s birthday.
C. She feared to be scolded for ignoring her parents’ love.
D. She pitied herself for being half-frozen all the way back.
7. What message is conveyed from the words of the author’s parents?
A. Love is a two-way street. B. Birthday party is a must.
C. Parental love is for a return. D. It is never too late to say sorry.
D 5. C 6. B 7. A

根据上一句“On that day, I came home from work, stopped her from entering the kitchen and asked her to dine out. “Has Lily called?” she asked.
根据第三段“Early the next morning, my wife got up, dark rings encircling her eyes. We only have one child. When Lily still lived at home, every year when her birthday approached, we would start the grand preparations days in advance. And after she left for college, my wife would call her countless times from morning till night. How could she ignore all our love and utterly forget her mum’s birthday?”(第二天一大早,我妻子起床了,黑眼圈围绕着她的眼睛。
Happy birthday!’ she said, tears welling up.(‘对不起,妈妈。
根据最后一段“Later, I called my parents and told them about it. I never thought they would respond with a long silence, and then said: ‘How many times have you forgotten our birthdays? Has either of us ever complained?’(后来,我打电话给我的父母,告诉他们这件事。 故选A项。

A recent study from a team of South Korean researchers suggests that eating alone often may lead to poor eating habits and poor food choices. Specifically, the study found that men who ate alone more than twice a week had a greater risk of developing high blood pressure and other diseases.
For children, eating with their families is not only about preventing bad results—it is also about developing good ones.
In 2014, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) looked at data from nearly three-quarters of the world’s countries. Among its findings was the fact that students who shared a main meal with families were less likely to skip school(逃学). Children who eat a main meal with their families are also less likely to use drugs and alcohol(吸毒酗酒).
In the report, named “The Importance of Family Dinners”, researchers say that “teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what’s going on in their lives”. They also say that when teens say they feel closer to their parents, they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.
Another study from the University of Montreal found that children who ate with their families experience long-term physical and mental health benefits(好处). These children were physically in better shape and drank fewer sugary soft drinks. These children also seemed to have better social skills and they were less aggressive(好斗的).
Professor Linda Pagani says that mealtimes shared with parents “likely provide young children with first-hand social communication, discussions of social events and day-to-day matters”. She adds that they may likely help the child have better communication skills with others.
8. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Advantages of eating with parents. B. Benefits of eating alone.
C. Ways of developing social skills. D. Dangers of using drugs and alcohol.
9. Which is the benefit of eating with the families?
A. Abuse drugs and alcohol. B. Drinking more sugary soft drinks.
C. Get on well with their parents. D. Be more socially active and aggressive.
10. Why is Professor Pagani mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. To introduce a famous person.
B. To offer background information.
C. To further explain the benefits of eating with parents.
D. To show the disadvantage of eating with parents.
11. Where does the passage most probably come from?
A. A popular novel. B. A travel magazine.
C. A science report. D. A biology book.

根据空前的“Good elevator etiquette (礼节) is mostly common sense.(良好的电梯礼仪大多是常识。)”可知,良好的电梯礼仪是常识,F选项“But being aware (意识到) of it will make your elevator rides more comfortable.( 但意识到这一点会让你坐电梯更舒服。)”
根据空前的“You should not try to block the doors of the elevator to hold them open.(你不应该试图堵住电梯的门来保持电梯的开着。)”可知,乘坐电梯不能堵着电梯门,让电梯门一直开着,B选项“This behavior is rude and potentially dangerous.(这种行为是粗鲁和潜在的危险。)”讲述的是某种行为是粗鲁的,而且有潜在的危险,其中的this behavior指代的为空前的“try to block the doors of the elevator to hold them open”且讲述的内容与空前内容吻合。故选B项。
根据空前的“While in an elevator, you should not eat, smoke, or talk on your cell phone.(在电梯里,你不应该吃东西、抽烟或打电话。)”可知,本段讲述的是乘电梯时不要吃东西、抽烟或者打电话,根据空后的“If you have to strike up a conversation with someone, keep the topic neutral (中立的) and your tone of voice low.(如果你必须和某人开始谈话,保持话题中性,声音低沉。)”
根据空前的“If you are trapped in the back of a crowded elevator and you need to get off, call out “my floor” to warn other riders to the fact that you wish to get off.(如果你被困在拥挤的电梯后面,你需要下电梯,喊出“我的楼层到了”来警告其他乘客你想下电梯。)”可知,此处讲述的是下电梯时的相关礼仪,C选项“Then move slowly but firmly through the crowd.(然后缓慢而坚定地穿过人群。)”中的“through the crowd”与空前的“you are trapped in the back of a crowded elevator”内容吻合,是对空前内容的进一步阐述,和下电梯相关。故选C项。
分析语篇可知,该段为总结段,此空位于尾段的首句,对全文进行总结,根据空后的“Usually as long as you make a good-faith effort to stay out of the way, you will not upset anyone. If your aren’t certain about whether or not a behavior is appropriate (适当) in an elevator, ask yourself how comfortable you would be if someone else in the elevator did it first.
