The ne in Washingtn D.C., called the Capital Fringe Festival, is in its tenth year. It was held in the mnth f July. Julianne Brienza funded the Capital Fringe Festival. She went t a schl fr the perfrming arts, but nw sees herself mainly as an rganizer f the festival. Brienza believes that fringe perfrmance art is special and can have a pwerful effect. The Capital Fringe Festival takes place in different lcatins thrughut the Sme perfrmances happen in traditinal theaters. Others happen in unusual settings like ld, empty buildings r stres after business hurs are ver.
Brienza says the purpse f Fringe Festivals is t explre the limits f art in unique envirnments. Since 2006, the event has made mre than $1.7 millin.
