Valuable ValuesThe spending pwer f yung peple varies frm persn t persn. Each, hwever, is faced with the same questin: what t d with their mney? Sme handle this less well than thers. Recent headlines have seen mre and mre teens maxing ut their parents’ credit cards n games r ther nline activities.
➊In cntrast t these big spenders, there are als teens that prve age is n barrier t making gd use f mney. With the help f her grandmther, eight-year-ld Khle Thmpsn started making “Kare Bags” fr the hmeless peple in her district. ➋Inside the bags are necessities such as tthpaste, sap and scks, bught first with her pcket mney and then thrugh crwd funding. These items helped t make the lives f pr and hmeless peple a little bit easier. On receiving a Kare Bag, ne wman said, “Yu make me feel like a human being.”
➊ In cntrast t these big spenders, there are als teens that prve (that) age is n barrier t making gd use f mney.
➋ Inside the bags are necessities such as tthpaste, sap and scks, bught first with her pcket mney and then thrugh crwd funding.
    本句中的“Inside the bags are necessities”是“主语 + 系动词 + 介词短语”结构的完全倒装;“bught first with her pcket mney...”
➊Hwever peple intend t use their mney, ➋managing it seems t be unprecedentedly imprtant t yunger generatins. A 2016 study said 17 states f the US require high schl students t take curses in persnal finances. Fr thse ➌wh have n access t curses, help might be at hand thanks t Jerry Witkvsky and his methd f using fur jars t teach teenagers ➍hw t spend their mney wisely.
When Jerry’s grandchildren turned 13, his present t each f them was three jars: ne fr Spending, ne fr Saving, and anther fr Giving—he has since added a furth jar fr Investing. ➊It was frm then n that his grandchildren started t be in cntrl f what t d with the mney they receive: spend, save, invest r give? Jerry’s birthday present t his grandchildren is, hwever, much mre than mney and a few jars—he is giving them the pprtunity t learn lifelng values.
➊ It was frm then n that his grandchildren started t be in cntrl f what t d with the mney (that / which) they receive: spend, save, invest r give?
     本句中“It ”是强调句式,强调时间状语“frm then n”; “what t d”是“疑问词 + 不定式”结构作f的宾语; “they receive: spend, save, invest r give?”
The value ➊taught with the Spending jar is ➋that yu are respnsible fr yur wn happiness. Mney gives yu independence and the pprtunity t buy smething ➌yu like. After all, it’s OK t be nice t yurself!
➊taught with the Spending jar过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰value;➋that yu are...为that引导的表语从句;➌yu like省略引导词that的定语从句,修饰先行词smething。
➊While the Spending jar is abut the here and nw, the Saving jar gives yu a visin fr the future. This culd invlve saving fr university, but it culd als mean saving fr that special smething ➋yu’ve seen in the stres—it’s up t yu.
➊While the...
The Investing jar nt nly represents a visin fr the future, but gives the pprtunity t build fr the future. ➊Althugh this culd likewise invlve putting aside mney fr yur university educatin, it als means investing in yurself.
    ➊Althugh this culd...
The Giving jar is all abut kindness and helping. ➊Whether yu want t help ut a friend, give mney t an animal charity r t children in anther cuntry, it’s yur mney t give t whatever cause yu believe in.
➊ Whether yu want t help ut a friend, give mney t an animal charity r t children in anther cuntry, it’s yur mney t give t whatever cause yu believe in.
➊The wider aim f the jars is t encurage teenagers t think mre bjectively abut mney and the things that it can d, s that they grw up understanding, if yu like, the value f the valuable. In this way, they will be better equipped in their adult lives t make infrmed chices abut ➋hw they use the mney ➌they have. Indeed, the small change inside their jars culd mean a big change in ➍hw they manage their mney.
