Trees are useful t man in three very imprtant ways:they prvide him with wd and ther prducts; they give him shade; and they help t prevent drughts (干旱) and flds.
Unfrtunately, in many parts f the wrld, man has nt realized that the third f these services is the mst imprtant. In his eagerness t draw quick prfit frm the trees, he has cut them dwn in large numbers.
Tw thusand years ag,a rich and pwerful cuntry cut dwn its trees t build warships, with which t gain itself an empire. It gained the empire but, withut its trees, its sil became bare and pr. When the empire fell t pieces, the cuntry fund itself faced with flds and starvatin.
Even thugh a gvernment realizes the imprtance f a plentiful supply f trees, it is difficult smetimes t make the peple realize this.
