For middle and primary school students, being able to cook has become a must. They will also need to learn how to plant vegetables, raise poultry(家禽) and fix up household appliances(家电) under new requirements for labor education.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) brought out a new standard for labor education in schools last year. Starting from the 2022 fall semester, students in primary and middle schools have to take courses on labor skills at least once a week.
Labor education helps students value hard work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education. It includes things like household chores, on-campus labor and community volunteer services.
The new standards include three types of labor tasks. The first is for things like everyday chores, including washing clothes, tidying rooms, cooking meals, and using household appliances, etc. Next is productive labor, including agriculture, making traditional handicrafts, and applying (应用) new technologies such as 3D printing and laser(激光) cutting. The third type is service work, which includes volunteer work.
According to the MOE, labor education must be built up to help students cultivate (培养) social values and develop an interest in labor. But this has been overlooked(忽略) in recent years. A study of nearly 3,000 students that was done by Evening News, shows only 22 percent of primary and middle school students help with everyday housework.
Online, people have been busy discussing the new standards on social media. Liu Fang, a mother of -year-old twins in Beijing, strongly supports labor education. For the past year, she has trained her daughters to do household chores and make simple dishes for the family. “The main idea is to let them share responsibility as family members and become independent as early as they can,” said Liu. “Through doing housework, their hand-eye coordination(协调), time management and organization skills can be trained and it’s also good to help them relax.” Liu is satisfied that her daughters have found fun in doing chores and are more independent.
26. Why did the MOE bring out a new standard for labor education?
A. To help students solve life problems. B. To teach parents how to train kids.
C. To call for students to respect labor.
27. What can students learn from the courses on labor skills?
a How to plant vegetables.
b. How to raise chickens or ducks.
c. How to be more active in class.
d. How to fix up computers or fridges.
A. abd B. abc C. bcd
28. What is the underlined sentence trying to tell us?
A. Most students are dependent on their parents.
B. Many students focus on getting good grades.
C. Students regard housework as a waste of time.
29. What does Liu Fang think of labor education?
A. It’s too simple for students. B. It helps students develop different skills.
C. It isn’t fun enough for students.
30. What does the text mainly tell us?
A. Schools should teach students all the labor skills.
B. Parents should encourage children to study harder.
C. Labor education is important and what should be done.

The conflict (冲突) between Russia and Ukraine itself may be a questionable topic, yet it is the people who suffer the most. More than 4 million Ukrainians had fled from their homeland one month after it began. It was the biggest migration (移民) wave since World War II.
I wanted to help by being a volunteer. However, it was difficult because I don’t speak Russian or Ukrainian. Luckily, after searching on the internet, I was finally able to sign up to volunteer in a modern gallery called Svetova.
The gallery is owned by an overseas Chinese in Prague, Czech Republic, and had over 40 volunteers to provide 24/7 aid to the Ukrainian refugees (难民). During a two-week intensive (集中的) aid program, the gallery provided a place to live and food for up to five people for free and also served as a safe and interesting space for children, where English classes, games and other fun activities were organized.
Due to my busy school and work schedule, I was only able to volunteer there twice. But, besides the owner and his family, I was the first Chinese volunteer. My role was to help the refugees fill out registration (登记) papers. Sometimes, it was difficult with the language barrier, but there were translators to help.
I was so impressed by one Ukrainian mother and her two kids, who still had such kind smiles and bright eyes, despite all the awful things they must have experienced. Some other people may not be able to easily understand their feelings, but I really valued this chance to be with those people in need, doing what I could. Because we are all humans, we should come together in difficult times.
31. What do we know from Paragraph 1?
A. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine lasted one month.
B. People in Ukraine have suffered a lot in the conflict.
C. More than 4 million Russians left their homeland.
32. Why was it difficult for the writer to be a volunteer?
A. Because the writer’s parents didn’t support the idea.
B. Because the writer didn’t know what to prepare.
C. Because the writer speaks neither Russian nor Ukrainian.
33. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. What the gallery did to help refugees from Ukraine.
B. How the gallery trained its volunteers.
C. What volunteers needed to do to help refugees.
34. What might the underlined word “barrier” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. skill B. support C. problem
35. Why did the writer consider it a valuable experience to be such a volunteer?
A. Because it helped him/her get into a good college.
B. Because he/she could help others in need.
C. Because it helped him/her to understand the feelings of refugees.

Recently, a Douyin influencer (网红) named “Xiaozhang the worker” went viral (走红) because of her “How-to” video series. In the videos, she teaches the most basic life skills, such as how to see a concert and how to take the subway. She has quickly gained over 2 million followers on Douyin.
In some way, the rising popularity of “How-to” videos mirrors the fact that young people’s search habits have changed. They’re increasingly turning to social media platforms (平台) like Douyin and Bilibili for information.
Li Zhouzi, a 14-year-old from Shanxi, likes to search on Bilibili. She said that by doing this, she gets information more quickly and easily. For example, when using traditional search engines (搜索引擎) for a concept (概念) of physics, she would always lose her way in a sea of hard-to-get terms. Instead, videos by creators on Bilibili can offer detailed (详细的) explanations that are often clearer than those she can find elsewhere.
Being able to form links with real people can also give searchers a strong sense of trust. Hu Tian is a 13-year-old girl from Sichuan. She likes searching for how to do resin-dripping (滴胶) on Xiaohongshu, a lifestyle-sharing platform. She can see notes with photos and texts posted by people who also have a liking for it. “I trust them more than some random comments (随机的评论) from unknown people on search engines,” she said.
Like Hu, many Gen Zers search for lighter topics on social media platforms. Meanwhile, they leave the heavier topics to traditional search engines. Zhou Yaokai, a Senior 3 student from Sichuan is one of them. When forming his personal opinions on heated topics, he prefers to turn to official websites of organizations or well-thought-of media sources. “In this way, the information can be the most reliable (可靠的),” he said.
41. How did “Xiaozhang the worker” go viral?
42. What trend does the popularity of “How-to” videos reflect?
43. Why did Li Zhouzi find traditional search engines hard to use?
44. What’s important to Hu Tian when searching for information?
45. When does Zhou Yaokai use traditional search engines?
