I believe that people should stop texting while driving because it not only endangers themselves but others around them. Family members, friends and strangers can be hurt by a simple mistake; their lives can be overturned(倾覆) completely.
Before I participated in the Thumb Wars campaign, I used to put sticky(粘的) notes inside my car to advise any person that was within it not to text while driving. I posted a quote on my social pages that said, “Drive now text later.” The message especially caught my dad’s attention. Since he is on the road about three out of the seven days of the week, we are all worried about his safety. He decided to never use his phone while driving. When it comes to informing other people about the dangers of texting while driving, I usually bring up conversations about driving which then lead me to lecture them on why they shouldn't text while driving. Thumb Wars has given me a new way and opportunity to prevent people from texting while driving.
The era we live in today is all about technology, and there is always the urge to text. Thumb Wars is an inspirational campaign that fights against that. What I was trying to achieve was to not only change my life, but also try to influence the lives of others for the better. I believe that I can make people realize the consequences of texting while driving. They all know that it is not worth it and could change someone's life instantly. I believe that if there were more campaigns like Thumb Wars there would be fewer accidents because more people would be aware of the effects of texting while driving.
All a person needs is inspiration and efforts to avoid texting while driving. Thumb Wars is a good channel, which makes it the ideal campaign to help with others and make a difference in this world.
24. What led to the author’s father’s decision to avoid using phone while driving?
A. The notes inside the author’s car.
B. The author’s quote on his social pages.
C. The author’s joining in the Thumb Wars campaign.
D. The conversations between the author and his father.
25. One of the purposes of the author’s joining Thumb Wars is to ________.
A. teach people how to use technology B. ask more people to join it
C. earn some money D. make others’ lives better
26. The author seems to agree that ________.
A. it isn’t worth texting while driving
B. people tend to ignore the traffic lights
C. attention is needed to text while driving
D. Thumb Wars was started by the author
27. What might be the most suitable title for the passage?
A. An Immediate Mistake B. Thumb Wars
C. Turning off Your Phone D. The Danger of Driving

We’ve gone from the days of “the dog ate my homework” to “the robot did my homework for me” .
A young schoolgirl recently spent the 800 yuan that she’d saved from Lunar New Year presents buying herself a robot. She had a specific purpose in mind for the machine doing her handwriting homework for her, the kind that is common in China and involves writing down phrases from textbooks that helps with learning the Chinese language and characters.
The girl’s mother discovered the robot while she was cleaning her daughter’s room. And, naturally, she destroyed it to teach the girl a lesson.
The mom clearly realized something was possibly wrong when her daughter was able to complete all her homework in just two days, with neat handwriting, despite (尽管) also having the festival activities and travel that seemed to leave little time to get the work done.
This actually caused a flood of sympathetic comments from Chinese social media users. “Give her a break; how meaningful is copying anyway?” said one Weibo commenter.
“Skillfully reading and writing in Chinese requires knowing thousands of characters ,” the newspaper remarked. Copying them in repeated exercises is a stepping stone in Chinese education to learn how to freely write them and students are also sometimes asked to write down a literary text from memory. It’s boring work, though, which explains why the girl turned to her robot for help.
What you make of the news regarding the young girl, meanwhile, may be something of a Rorschach test(罗夏测验)for people's attitudes toward technology. All I know is I wish I’d have had one to help me out with homework back in the day—and if you’re honest with yourself, you probably wish you did too.
28.Why did the girl buy the robot?
A. She found it beautiful. B. She was fond of playing with robots.
C. She had it do her homework. D. She learned Chinese language from it.
29. How did the girl’s mother punish the girl?
A.She asked the girl to stay at home all day.
B.She prevented the girl doing festival activities.
C.She kept the girl from travelling again.
D.She broke the robot into pieces.
30. What is boring according to the writer?
A.Copying characters over and over again.
B.Reading interesting texts in Chinese.
C.Doing exercises on stepping stones.
D.Writing down a text from creation.
31. What is the writer’s attitude towards the girl’s using a robot?
A.Negative. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Worried.
D
In today’s society , language plays a key role in defining gender (性别) by vocabulary, and also their non-verbal (非语言的) vocabulary. Each one of these different types of ways of communicating is obviously different between men and women.
Many different studies show that men tend to talk much more than women. It has also been proven that women tend to speak faster than men; this is due to the fact that women tend to be interrupted more often than men are, and also have the ability to speak more clearly, precisely, and more quickly than men. In one study it was found that women spoke for an average of three minutes describing a painting, as opposed to the thirteen-minute average it took men to describe it.
Men and women also tend to have a very different non-verbal way of communicating, which can also make it very hard for one another to understand what the opposite sex is trying to say. Men’s body language is much more reserved(含蓄的)when talking to women. Men tend not to make as much eye contact and they generally stay farther away from women when talking to them. Men avoid other people’s body space while talking, and they also tend to sit back when talking. All of these have given off the impression of disinterest or boredom. Women are by far better listeners and much more enjoyable to talk with and they tend to raise more topics for conversation.
Women also make it clearer whether or not the conversation is going somewhere or just stuck in neutral(中立的).After learning about our styles of communicating with each other, I have decided that although men have not quite mastered communicating, what fun would it be if we all spoke the same “language”? The little games men and women play with each other while conversing(与……交流)would be lost. The question everyone asks himself or herself after talking with someone of the opposite sex, “I wonder if there’s something there?” would no longer exist.
32. What does the underlined word “this”in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The differences between men’s and women’s languages.
B. The different speed of men’s and women’s speech.
C. The ability of men’s and women’s spoken language.
D. The non-verbal vocabulary of men and women.
33. In what way do men and women differ according to the third paragraph?
A. Speed of understanding. B. Understanding of speech roles.
C. Politeness of communication. D. Application of body language.
34. What is the author’s attitude to the differences between men’s and women’s communication?
A. Cautious. B. Favorable.
C. Ambiguous.(模棱两可的) D. Skeptical.(怀疑的)
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Women,born excellent talkers B. Men’s and women’s social roles
C. Vocabulary and communication D. Opposite gender, different language

In the village where I grew up, everyone knew an old man, that spent all his time in painting. People living in the village used to admiring his works and he often gave his paintings to his friends. Whether he was offered money, he would never take it. He said he painted for a pleasure. He once gave one of his paintings to my father, who actually wasn’t interesting in art. Years later I found in our old house. By that time the old man had died and people had started to recognize his paintings as great work of art, which were worth lots of money. An art gallery made me an offer of $5,000 for this painting and I nearly sell it, so then I decided not to do so. It reminds me of the old man who didn’t real want to make money by painting.
