Reading
Dr. Wang is a surgen. He wrks at a large hspital in N street. He cmes early t the hspital every day s that he can make his mrning rund n time.
Tday he is earlier than usual, because he wants t see Patient Taylr wh was perated fr an intestinal bstructin yesterday. On admissin the patient had little pain and refused peratin steadfastly. At first Surgen Wang fund it difficult t prevail upn him. At last, n the understanding that nthing wuld be dne and the anxiety was abslutely unnecessary, the patient yielded, the peratin perfrmed.
Dr. Wang ges alng a sunlit crridr t ward N. 2. The ward is extremely clean. There are fur beds and a few small cabinets in it. As sn as Dr. Wang enters the ward, he sees immediately that Patient Taylr is much better than yesterday. He apprached his bed and said:
“Hw are yu tday, Mr. Taylr?”
“Much better, Dctr, thanks.” answered the patient.
“D yu still have pains in the abdmen?”
“Yes, there is nly a slight pain in the perated area, it desn’t matter.”
“Well, hw did yu spend the night?”
“Thanks, Dctr, I had a sund sleep last night, and I feel quite well nw.”
Surgen Wang is delighted with the patient’s general cnditin.
Then the surgen begins examining the next patient. Patient Green is much better than the previus day. His temperature and pulse rate are nearly nrmal. The pains in his stmach are less severe. He cmplains less and keeps quiet. He will cmpletely recver in a few days. Hwever Patient Lee feels rather unwell tday. His temperature is lwer, but he still cmplains f a bad headache. He will be sent t the general hspital fr further examinatin.
Patient Ya was admitted with severe abdminal pain sme days ag. After admissin the pain became less fr a few hurs and the returned as a vilent, intermittent clic, cming in spasms every ten minutes. On examinatin, well-marked visible peristalsis culd be seen. Lapartmy was perfrmed. Nw Dctr Wang wants t knw whether there are any pst-perative cmplicatins. He feels his pulse and ntices that it is slightly accelerated. Next he lks at the patient’s tngue and tests his heart, lungs and abdmen. Examining the abdmen the dctr asks him whether he feels any pains n palpatin. The patient answers in the affirmative.
Dr. Wang spent abut an hur examining the ther patients, talking with them, answering their questins, giving them advice and asking them whether they had any cmplaints abut their health.
All the patients in the ward like and respect Dctr Wang.

delighted with = delightful t 对……高兴,此句也可以改写为:

这种天气令我感到很愉快。
5. Examining the abdmen the dctr asks him whether he feels any pains n palpatin. The patient answers in the affirmative.
检查腹部时,医生问他触诊时是否感到疼痛,病人给予了肯定的答复。
answer in the affirmative肯定答复;answer in the negative否定回答。
whether引导宾语从句表示是否,还可也用于动词不定式前面。例如:
