I never wanted to go to kindergarten, or leave home at all. I spent my first five years within the loving arms of my family, and when the time came for me to begin school at PS116 in Brooklyn, I was sure that no one would keep me safe. But I was so lucky to meet Mrs. Heyman. Not only did she make me feel safe, she let me know that I was special.
Kindergarten was a fearful experience for me. I was a shy child who hated being separated from my mommy. Mrs. Heyman was a kind and patient teacher who tried to get me to stop crying each morning after I asked for one last kiss.
She would distract me with pens and colorful paper and by playing beautiful music. It seemed the feeling of being an artist distracted me from my separation unhappiness, allowing me to attend class as the tears ran down my face. I also loved to sing and dance, and performed the Virginia reel-a kind of dance—when the principal. Mr. Barton, visited our class.
Mr. Barton was an old, serious man who liked to walk behind children who behaved badly and shout, “Behave!” I was afraid of being shouted at by him, and practiced the dance with my classmates until Mrs. Heyman told us we were perfect.
Unluckily, I was so nervous before Mr. Barton’s visit that I wet myself. Mrs. Heyman calmly took me to the bathroom and told me to change into new clothes, drying my tears all the while, never showing judgement.
As I performed, Mr. Barton cheered. Pleased, I bravely stepped up to the front of the classroom and threw kisses in Mrs. Heyman’s direction.
I was lucky to have her again for the first grade and learned to love school and learning. She was right about living my life without long-lasting attention from my mommy.
    1. What was the author’s life like before he went to kindergarten?
    A. Busy B. Happy C. Lonely D. Unsafe
    2. How did Mrs. Heyman draw the author’s attention away from separation unhappiness?
    A. By letting him do art. B. By giving him a kiss.
    C. By dancing with him. D. By inviting his mother to school.
    3. What happened before the author’s performance?
    A. He got himself in a mess. B. He received ill-treatment.
    C. He failed to find his new clothes. D. He visited the bathroom many times.

Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic (全景的) view of the blue sea, white building and green olive trees, I paused to ach my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.
Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view. Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.
Another 15 minutes passed and I grew bored. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.
This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined” it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured (捕捉) and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized (使永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.
Perhaps we all live in each other’s space. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.
That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.
    4. What happened when the author was about to take a photo?
    A. Her camera stopped working. B. A woman blocked her view.
    C. Someone asked her to leave. D. A friend approached from behind.
    5. In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?
    A. The rich color of the landscape. B. The perfect positioning of the camera.
    C. The woman’s existence in the photo. D. The soft sunlight that summer day.
    6. The photo on the bedroom wall enables the author to better understand ________.
    A. the need to be close to nature B. the importance of private space
    C. the joy of the vacation in Italy D. the shared passion for beauty
    7. The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon ________.
    A. a particular life experience B. the pleasure of traveling
    C. the art of photography D. a lost friendship
B 5. C 6. D 7. A

When I was a kid, I was close to my dad, but as I grew older, my dad and I grew further apart. We always had totally different opinions. He thought that college was a waste of time, but for me it was important to finish college. He wanted me to work my way to the top as he had done in his field, but I wanted a different life. There was a time when we did no talk with each other.
A few months ago, I heard that my 84-year-old dad was in poor health. When he called and asked whether I could move from Colorado back to Tennessee to help him, I knew he was seriously ill. I am his only child and so it was time to meet my father’s requirement.
Two weeks after moving back, we bought a boat and started fishing again. Fisting was one of the few things that we did while I was young and that we both enjoyed. It is strange but true that as we are fishing we are able to put things that have kept us apart for so many years behind us. We are able to talk about things that we have never talked about before. Fishing has been healing the old wounds that have kept us apart.
It is not important how many fish we catch. It is about enjoying the relationship that we have not had for years. I’m 62 and he is 84. When we are on the lake fishing, it is like two kids enjoying life. It is far better to find a way to put the unhappy past behind. I am so lucky to spend the happy time with my father in his last years. Now my heart is filled with love. A smile always graces my lips.
    8. Why did the author and his father become further apart?
    A. They had different views on things B. They lived very far from each other
    C. They only communicated by phone D. They seldom went to see each other
    9. What made the author come back to Tennessee?
    A. Because his father invited him to go fishing. B. Because he decided to live in a different city
    C. Because his father was ill and needed caring D. Because he regretted being rude to his father.
    10. What can we know from the passage?
    A. The author’s car broke down
    B. The author’s father intended him to be a fisherman
    C. The author was unwilling to come back
    D. The author’s father used to think it was useless to attend college.
    11. What can be the best title for the text?
    A. Forgiving Is Difficult B. Fishing Bring Us Together
    C. Memories of Old Days D. My Beloved Father
A 9. C 10. D 11. B
根据第一段中“We always had totally different opinions. He thought that college was a waste of time, but for me it was important to finish college. He wanted me to work my way to the top as he had done in his field, but I wanted a different life. (我们总是有完全不同的意见。他认为读大学完全是在浪费时间,但是对我而言上完大学是非常重要的。他希望我像他一样在自己工作的行业里做到最好,但是我想要不同的生活)”可知,作者和父亲关系变糟的原因是他们对事情的看法不同,故选A 。
    【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“A few months ago, I heard that my 84-year-old dad was in poor health. When he called and asked whether I could move from Colorado back to Tennessee to help him, I knew he was seriously ill. I am his only child and so it was time to meet my father’s requirement. (几个月前,我听说我84岁的父亲身体不好。当他打电话问我是否可以从科罗拉多搬回田纳西帮助他时,我知道他病得很重。我是他唯一的孩子,所以是时候满足父亲的要求了)”可知,作者决定从科罗拉多搬回田纳西,是因为父亲生病需要作者去照顾。故选C。
    【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“He thought that college was a waste of time, but for me it was important to finish college.(他认为上大学是浪费时间,但对我来说,完成大学学业很重要)”可知,作者父亲过去认为读大学是浪费时间。
根据最后一段“It is about enjoying the relationship that we have not had for years. I am so lucky to spend the happy time with my father in his last years. Now my heart is filled with love. A smile always graces my lips.(而是要享受我们多年未拥有的关系。
    D
Earthquakes are common natural disaster. No matter where you are, knowing how to protect yourself and your family during an earthquake is necessary.
Some expert propose that when you feel the ground is shaking, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. Most earthquake injuries are the result of being hit by something falling on you. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don’t stay near building, trees or power lines. Many people think that in case of an earthquake, they should “get under something” like a doorway or desk, in order to avoid being hurt by falling objects.
Rescue experts now say this is the wrong thing to do. For example, in the 1985 Mexico City earthquakes, they found hundreds of children in schools, crushed by their desks. However, they could have survived by lying in the aisle (通道,走道) next to their desks.
So find a nice piece of furniture, a chair, a sofa, and lie down, or curl up next to it. A falling roof may compact the furniture, but will still leave a space for you to survive next to it. This also holds true if you are in a hotel room, especially at night. Get of the bed, and lie down next to it.
In San Francisco’s 1989 earthquake, the upper freeway fell on the lower one. People who drove along were crushed in their cars. But they had time to get out and lie down next to their cars. Yes, their cars were cashed bur there was space from top to bottom next to the vehicles for people to survive and await a rescue.
Doorways and stairways are very unsafe Slay away from those.
What can we do to keep ourselves safe? Saying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents.
    12. What should you do first when accidents happen according to this passage?
    A. Get under buildings B. Stay near trees.
    C. Keep calm D. Drop down
    13. What can we learn from the text?
    A. “Get under something” can avoid being hurt
    B. Right earthquake survival tips can save life.
    C. Earthquakes cause great damage.
    D. Don’t drive on the upper freeway during an earthquake
    14. Which of the following is the closest meaning of the underlined word “crushed” in Paragraph 3?
    A. hidden B. protected
    C. killed D. supported
    15. How can we probably get a narrow escape from an earthquake?
    A. Lie down next to a strong piece of furniture or a car
    B. Lie down under a table or desk
    C. Run out of the house and stay under a big tree.
    D. Shout out loudly and ask for help
C 13. B 14. C 15. A
根据最后一段的“Saying calm is the first and most important rule when facing accidents”(当面对事故时,镇定是首要也是最重要的规则)可知,根据这篇文章,当事故发生时,你应该首先保持冷静,故选C。
根据倒数第二段的“People who drove along were crushed in their cars. But they had time to get out and lie down next to their cars. Yes, their cars were cashed bur there was space from top to bottom next to the vehicles for people to survive and await a rescue”(开车的人都被车压扁了。
根据第三段的“However, they could have survived by lying in the aisle (通道,走道) next to their desks”(然而,如果他们躺在桌子旁边的过道里,就有可能活下来)可知,那些躲在课桌下的孩子被压死 了,因此crushed意为“killed”,故选C。
根据第四段的“So find a nice piece of furniture, a chair, a sofa, and lie down, or curl up next to it. A falling roof may compact the furniture, but will still leave a space for you to survive next to it”(所以找一件漂亮的家具,一把椅子,一个沙发,躺下来,或者蜷缩在它旁边。倒塌的屋顶可能会压紧家具,但仍会为你在它旁边留下生存的空间)和倒数第二段的“Yes, their cars were crashed but there was space from top to bottom next to the vehicles for people to survive and await a rescue”(是的,他们的车被撞坏了,但在车的旁边有从上到下的空间供人们生存和等待救援)可知,在一件结实的家具或一辆汽车旁边躺下可以使我们从地震中死里逃生,故选A。

apology(道歉)为名词,其动词形式为apologize或apologise,故填apologize/apologise。
familiar(熟悉的)的反义词为unfamilar(不熟悉的),符合句意。
故填a。
故填to understand。
故填who/that。
故填to。

[高分句型2] We really hope you could give us some suggestions on learning English.
When I was a child, I lived in a house with a beautiful garden full of all kinds of flowers, and roses were the most beautiful of them. There was nothing I enjoyed more than sitting in the garden with my mother, who read stories to me. When I was in primary school and old enough to read, I enjoyed reading stories aloud to her.
I will never forget one day when I was in the third grade. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed my lines so hard with me. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator(叙述者)’ s part to the play, and asked me to change my role. Her word, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home after school that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to take a walk in the garden.
It was May and roses were blossoming and, under the trees, we could also see yellow dandelions(蒲公英) in the grass, as if a painter had painted our garden with red, yellow and green. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling it up by its roots. “From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”
My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower is beautiful in its own way, isn't it?” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Realizing that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled reassuringly.
    Paragraph 1:
“But you can make a good narrator,” she said.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
After the play, I took home the dandelion.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】“But you can make a good narrator,”she said. It reminded me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. “The narrator's part is just as important as the part of a princess.” Her wise words inspired me with courage and confidence. But on the evening of the performance, I suddenly felt nervous backstage again. My teacher came over to me. “Your mother asked me to give this to you,” she said, handing me a dandelion. Looking at it, I knew my mother was out there for me, which calmed me down.
After the play, I took home the dandelion. I made it into a dried flower and put it into a glass bottle. Every time I see it, I am reminded of this unforgettable experience. I have taken part in many school plays, tried different roles and made many speeches ever since. Gradually, I've become really good at performing and public speaking, seldom feeling nervous onstage now. For this, I am forever grateful to my mother, who has made me what I am today.
