    【答案】17. B18. A19. C20. B

【原文】M: Welcome back, everyone. This is VPR News Radio. Here comes amazing news. Plastic roads are made entirely of plastic or plastic mixed with other materials. They provide a new option for recycling used plastic. Australia, Indonesia, India, the United Kingdom, the United States and many other countries have used plastic in roads. In the Netherlands, two cities have bicycle paths made purely from waste plastics. The technology was developed in 2001 by Rajagopalan Vasudevan of the Thiagarajar College of Engineering in India. He developed a new method to reuse plastic waste to construct better, stronger and cheaper roads. This method will help in making roads much faster and also will save the environment from dangerous plastic waste. It involves collecting waste plastic, cleaning it, melting it and mixing it with traditional materials. Roads made in this way have advantages and disadvantages. They can have empty spaces for pipes and wires and can also resist weather. They find a use for plastic waste and they save on other materials. However, the plastic can break down into very small pieces, which can be harmful.

    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出最佳选项。

    A

Some of the most beautiful national parks in the UK

    Snowdonia

North Wales’s national park boasts mountain and sea views: Several of its peaks gaze across to Ireland and it has miles of sandy beaches. You can climb Wales’s highest mountain without working up a sweat by catching an old-fashioned train. Those who pursue excitement can choose zip lines, bounce down mountain bike trails or catch breaks at an inland surfing.

    Cairngorms

The UK’s biggest national park is home to its mightiest mountains: Five out of six of Scotland’s highest peaks are found here. Lying in the heart of the highlands, the Cairngorms mountain range still has vast areas of pure wilderness and is one of the chilliest places in the country. For much of the year, its peaks are blanketed in snow and you can ski there in winter.

    Peak District

Sandwiched between Manchester and Sheffield, England’s oldest national park has two personalities: A tough and a gentle side. In the north are dramatic edges like Kinder Scout which rewards adventurous walkers with stark views. Venture south for the lower, greener, grass-covered valleys of the White Peak. Walk along the Ecclesbourne Valley to experience both in one day.

    New Forest

The New Forest is surprisingly old: William the Conqueror named it when he used to hunt deer and wild pigs here nearly 1,000 years ago. Confusingly, this picturesque corner of southern England isn’t completely covered in woodland either—it also has acres of woodland and miles of muddy coast. The terrain is gentle, and you’re guaranteed a sighting of its free-walking horses.

    21. How can visitors climb Wales’s highest mountain without sweating?

    A. By taking a train. B. By riding a bike.

    C. By taking a cable car. D. By traveling in a plane.

    22. What do we know about Peak District?

    A. It is a good habitat for horses. B. It offers visitors two totally different views.

    C. It is a newly-built national park in England. D. Its name was given by William the Conqueror.

    23. What type of writing is the text?

    A. A guide. B. A review. C. A notice. D. A report.

    21~23题答案】

    【答案】21. A22. B23. A

    B

Bubba, a handsome blue-and-turquoise parrot, was the best little companion I could have hoped for. At 88 years of age, I don’t plan to have any more pets, but for 12 years, Bubba and I kept each other company throughout the day.

I bought him from my local pet shop, when he was a baby; the bigger parrots were pushing him away from the seed dish and off the end of the perch—so I had to save him.

I asked him his name, and he replied, “Bibbi”. I changed it to “Bubba”. He must have liked it because he learned to say it pretty quickly.

He would make me laugh by practising new words, and if he didn’t pronounce them correctly, he would mutter loudly, which I took to mean he was cursing himself.

I left Bubba’s cage open unless he did something naughty. I would shut him in till he behaved himself. It didn’t take long and he soon learned to say, “Bubba’s a good boy.” When he came out, I got lots of kisses! At bedtime I had to sing “Unchained Melody” to him.

My favourite memory is of his last Christmas in 2014. He asked, “What doing?” I told him that the following day was Christmas Day and that the decorations would cheer us up. Next morning, he was out early kissing me, and it continued all day. That night, as I put him to bed he had a very satisfied look on his face.

On his last day, he clung to me and lay in my hand for hours. I placed him on a feather duster in a small box so that he could be on my walker tray while I cooked dinner.

At bedtime, I placed him back into the box with some water and seed. After the usual songs, I told him to lie down and get comfortable. In the morning he was lying down, one wing over his head.

I’m sure he still visits me.

    24. Why did I save Bubba?

    A. He was pushed by other kids. B. He was better than any other pets.

    C. He was the best little companion. D. He was bullied by other parrots.

    25. Which of the following best describe Bubba?

    A. Romantic and generous. B. Smart and lovely.

    C. Considerate and courageous. D. Ambitious and friendly.

    26. What would happen if Bubba did something naughty?

    A. He would fly away. B. He would be punished.

    C. He would curse himself. D. He would sing to himself.

    27. What can we infer from the last paragraph?

    A. I am confident in Bubba.

    B. Bubba will always live in my heart.

    C. Bubba’s leaving is weighing on my mind.

    D. It’s certain that Bubba will come to visit me again.

    24~27题答案】

    【答案】24. D25. B26. B27. B

    C

A 16-year-old boy wanted to throw a party for his birthday. He didn’t ask for favors from his friends or themed decorations. Instead, he held the celebration on Roblox. On the digital platform, which allows users to play and create a multitude of games, the boy threw himself a party to which he invited not just friends from school and Twitter, but also fans of the game.

For netizens, the idea of the “metaverse” — a sort of 3D sequel (续篇) to today’s 2D internet, in which users work, play, buy and sell inside immersive virtual worlds — has become the Latest Next Big Thing. This is just the beginning, however.

A fully-fledged metaverse will help revolutionize several key sectors such as business, education, and science. In China, for instance, Alibaba has built a VR shopping mall that specializes in helping both vendors and buyers to essentially “shop” inside an online virtual store.

How a metaverse can be used in education? Teachers will be able to hold online classes in a virtual classroom, where students can discuss with each other using their avatars (化身). Students will also no longer need to leave the house to visit museums around the world; they could simply walk into one in the metaverse instead. Finally, scientists will be able to explore and conduct experiments in a virtual lab, which is something that has never been done before.

If the metaverse is essentially an extension of the Internet we currently have, one only has to think about the countless problems that we have yet to solve in our online existence — hacking, catfishing, harassment, hate speech — to see how truly dangerous a future on the metaverse could be.

For now, though, everything is in the early stages. The evolution of the metaverse — if it happens at all — will be fought among tech giants for the next decade, or maybe even longer.

    28. Why does the author mention “a 16-year-old boy” in Paragraph 1?

    A. To explain a rule. B. To clarify a concept.

    C. To present a fact. D. To make a prediction.

    29. What can people do in the metaverse?

    A. Browse and buy goods in a physical store.

    B. Build a community in a 3D environment.

    C. Explore and conduct experiments in a real lab.

    D. Communicate and interact with others face to face.

    30. What is the author’s attitude to the metaverse?

    A. Favourable. B. Intolerant. C. Objective. D. Pessimistic

    31. What can we know about the metaverse?

    A. We have lived in the metaverse.

    B. The metaverse is the early stage of the Internet.

    C. The future of the metaverse is only dependent on tech giants.

    D. There is a long way to go before the metaverse becomes completely developed.

    D

Many believe that smiling takes years off your appearance by conveying a youthful happiness. However, a study has found that smiling actually makes people look older, unless they are over 60, in which case the wrinkles have set in and it makes little difference.

Neuroscientists showed participants hundreds of photographs of faces of people aged between 20 and 80, either smiling or with a neutral expression, and were asked to estimate their age. The faces of younger people in their twenties and thirties were identified as looking older when they were smiling. However, smiling had little or no effect on the perceived age of those over the age of 60.

The study found that for middle-aged people between the ages of 40 and 60, gender played a role in whether smiling altered the perceived age. Men in this age category appeared older when they smiled, but for their female counterparts, smiling had no effect.

Researchers also suggested that it could be down to the gender differences in lifestyle and skin care that could affect facial wrinkling.

The study follows a similar one undertaken in 2018 which also debunked the theory that smiling can take years off your appearance. The same scientists published a paper saying that the belief “well-rooted in media” was “a complete misconception”. They said the misplaced belief was causing social media users to post ageing photos of themselves online.

    32. What was the study designed to find out?

    A. The advantages of smiling. B. The reasons for smiling.

    C. The truth about smiling. D. The recipe for smiling.

    33. According to the text, which aspect is not responsible for face wrinkling?

    A. Lifestyle. B. Skin care. C. Gender. D. Appearance.

    34. What does the underlined word “debunked” in the last paragraph mean?

    A. Disproved. B. Collected. C. Claimed. D. Produced.

    35. What of the following is the best title for the text?

    A. Do wrinkles really make you look older? B. Does smiling really make you look younger?

    C. The more you laugh, the younger you are D. The more you laugh, the fewer wrinkles you have

    第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

    根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Your alarm goes off on the first day of January. You force yourself out of bed and steadily walk toward the bathroom, where you catch sight of a pale-faced, sleepy-eyed “monster” in the mirror. ____36____. However, after a moment, you think. “Wait, it’s okay because today is New Year’s Day, time to get back in shape!”

For many people, the start of a new year signals the end of a period of overindulgence (放纵). During December, it is often justified by the planning of New Year’s resolutions to turn oneself into a fit and healthy human being. However, the fact is that approximately 80% of New Year’s resolutions are abandoned before February.____37____ While we may have good intentions when making resolutions, we are not actually making ourselves any more disciplined. Change involves, a degree of stress, and someone not mentally equipped to handle that stress will struggle to change.

____38____ One idea is to think small rather than big. Many people’s plans involve extreme measures, while in reality, change is likely easier in smaller steps, which allows for greater success. ____39____ 30 minutes of TV time for two hours at the gym can be rewarding in motivating someone to work out every day.

Finally, set concrete goals. ____40____ For example, “I’m going to go running every day to train for a half-marathon in April” would be far more powerful than “I’m going to get in better shape this year”. Most importantly, remember that despite their names, New Year’s resolutions should be for life. Change takes time and effort, but with suitable strategies, there is no reason why you cannot stick to your resolutions permanently… or at least until June.

    A. You seem to be over the moon.

    B. Almost instantly, you step back in horror.

    C. So, how can you make yourself more disciplined?

    D. Instead of making a vague resolution, make a specific one.

    E. Another helpful strategy is to design a personal reward system.

    F. Given this situation, why should we still put ourselves under great stress?

    G. Regarding why this happens, the answer is likely related to self-discipline.

    第二节(满分25分)

    67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

Agatha was in the library, reading the Girl Detective series, when she noticed something strange. Her best friends, Timmy and Florence, were talking to each other in whispers while keeping a good, safe distance from her! When she waved at them, they looked away.

Things only got stranger in art class. Timmy and Florence went to sit at a different table from Agatha busy painting and glanced at her when they thought she wasn’t looking.

Now, Agatha considered herself to be something of a detective. After all, she had read many detective stories for children and even had an old broken magnifying glass(放大镜)abandoned by her father. When the rest of the class went out for lunch, she slipped to Timmy and Florence’s table and examined it carefully with the magnifying glass.

There was paint, and red and pink construction paper. What could they be doing? This was definitely a mystery that needed solving!

After lunch Timmy and Florence chatted to her as if nothing was going on, but they kept smiling at her in a slightly strange way. Of course, Agatha could have asked them what they were up to, and they might have told her -but she wouldn’t have a chance to become a detective!

On the way home from school, Florence and her mum happened to walk ahead of Agatha and her mum. Agatha saw them go into the bookshop. Strange, again. Florence didn’t read muchno matter how many detective stories Agatha recommended to her!

The next day at school, Agatha kept an eye on her friends and tried to work out their mystery, but they seemed determined to keep things secret. She asked them if they would like to play with her after school, but they said they couldn’t because they were busy. Even more mysterious…

When Agatha’s mum came to pick her up after school, she was so lost in the unsolved mystery that she hardly noticed her busy father was coming along, which was unusual. When they arrived home, her father said she could go into the living room.

    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右:

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Opening the door of the living room, Agatha heard voices shout from darkness, “SURPRISE!”

After eating the cake, Agatha got down to the business of opening her birthday presents.

    67题答案】

【答案】Opening the door of the living room, Agatha heard voices shout from darkness, “SURPRISE!”. When she entered the darkened living room, the lights came on suddenly. Her best friend Timmy and Florence were there, grinning! On the table were a cake with candles and a pile of presents. Mum and Dad followed her into the living-room and lit the candles, saying: “Happy Birthday, dear. You were so distracted by the mystery to be solved as to forget today is your birthday! Now, blow the candles, make a wish and enjoy the cake.”

After eating the cake, Agatha got down to the business of opening her birthday presents. The first gift was the big red and pink birthday card with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written on it in Timmy and Florence’s childish handwriting. “We hope you like the card we made for you!” said Timmy, and Florence added, “We also bought the latest Sherlock Holmes Detective series for you!” Agatha hugged her friends in appreciation of their surprise gifts. Mum and Dad handed her a brand-new magnifying glass in place of the old broken one. Agatha might not have solved the mystery, but it was still a wonderful birthday party!
