M: Australians are crazy about sport. And there are a large range of competitive sports there. Today, I'd like to talk about Australian Rules Football.
Australian Rules Football is around 150 years old. It is played with an oval-shaped ball by two teams, each with 18 players. But in each American Football team there are 11 players and 15 players in Rugby Football. It is a very physical game and its main points are speed, long kicking, long handballs and high marks.
There are 18 teams in the top level competition, the Australian Football League which is also called the "AFL". The oldest team in the AFL competition is Melbourne, which formed in 1858. It is the oldest football team in the world. The team with the largest following today is Collingwood, which has 72, 600 paid-up members. And it is probably true to say that Collingwood is the team which all other football fans "love to hate". But I am the fan of Essendon which I have followed for ten years.

When I was in high school and college, I worked in a Man’s clothing store. Each year, on Christmas Eve, a couple would come in with their two young sons to buy gifts. One year, I asked the couple why they waited until Christmas Eve to shop. They said it had been a tradition since they married. And when their boys were born, they included them as well. To them, it was a way they could be together during the holiday season and created a memory they could all share. Shopping during the holiday season has to be convenient for me. I’m not the one to spend a lot of time looking for gifts. Albany’s shopping center has all the shops one could want. As you go about your Christmas shopping this year, be sure to shop at Albany. This shopping experience could become a family tradition that all can value.

M: Americans like to have meetings. In the United States, there are about eleven million meetings taking place every workday. The reason is that people can often find better ideas when they get together. A meeting gives each member a chance to present his or her ideas and to discuss them with others. People hope that they can make better use of their time and money in this way. However, meetings must be controlled. If everyone wants to have a chance to speak during a meeting, it can be very noisy. On the other hand, if no one wants to say anything, the meeting will be very boring. How can we deal with this problem? In fact, at meetings there is a person called the chairman whose job is to keep the discussion in order. He helps to guide the discussion and makes decisions. Therefore, whether a meeting is a success or a waste of time often depends on the chairman.

I'm here today to tell you about my work. People ask me why I decided to start a new magazine. Well, I've been a journalist for many years working for newspapers and magazines in this country and abroad. I've always dreamed of starting my own magazine, not because I want to be rich but because I want to do something different. And now I've done it!It is different from other magazines.
So what's the magazine like?It looks very similar to the local weekly newspaper, but it doesn't carry news and it doesn't report on events as they happen. I think this is the major difference. You can buy it in all the usual places you would buy your local newspaper.
The magazine itself is divided into three main parts. The first part is what's on. There are music and film reviews, so you can decide what's worth spending your time on. And it's also got local bus timetables and useful telephone numbers. The second part is articles. We want to write about the lives of local people. They may be famous or not, but they have all done something interesting such as developing a new business. There are several famous artists in the city, like Lisa Goodchild. We hope to interview a wide variety of people. And the third part is information about special events.

Good afternoon, class. Today, we’ll be learning about the king of the jungle. Now, we all know who that is: a lion. But, did you ever wonder why it’s called this, when it doesn’t even live in jungles? When we think of a jungle, we usually think of it as a forest in a hot and wet place, like in Malaysia or Indonesia. Also, jungles are normally very difficult to travel through, because plants are growing so closely together. Some groups of tigers do live in jungles. But lions live in more open places, in general. They prefer the drier, grassy spaces of Africa, such as in parts of Kenya. This may have been different in the past, since there used to be many more lions. They lived not only all over Africa, but also from India to Greece. It’s possible that some lions used to live in jungles, too.

Okay, everyone, thanks for coming to this meeting.I'm going to give you the final details about our geography trip. This Friday, you'll need to go to the gate of the college, because that's where the bus will be. We will set out from there at seven thirty but I want you there at a quarter past seven in order that we'll have plenty of time to put the luggage on the bus. As for luggage, don't bring too much. We’ll be away for only two nights! A suitcase really isn't suitable in the mountains,so just bring a small backpack.Remember to bring some warm clothes and wear hiking shoes. We have booked a three-star hotel. We should get to the hotel by mid-afternoon, so you'll have some free time beiore dinner. As far as I know,This hotel is well decorated.Sadly, there's no swimming pool or tennis court, though there's a gym I know many of you enjoy sports. Well, are there any questions?

As the largest of its kind in the world, Penang Toy Museum has over 110,000 toys, dolls and other fun things. It has also entered the Malaysian Book of Records as the first toy museum in the country and for having the largest collection. The museum, opened in 2005, was founded by Loh Lean Cheng. He said it all began with his love of toys. He started to collect toys after visiting the London Toy and Model Museum at the age of 19. Starting from the first toy that he bought in 1973, the collection has just kept on growing and growing. Today, you can find almost everything about toys here. According to Loh Lean Cheng, some of his toys are limited editions. One of the most expensive things in the museum is a 1.8-meter tall Gundam robot from Japan. There are more toy collections to be added, according to the owner who receives about 1000 to 2000 visitors per day. If you go to Malaysia, don’t forget to go and have a look at the toys. The museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends and public holidays.

W: Have you ever flown on Virgin Atlantic Airways or used a Virgin mobile phone? If so, you have put a few more dollars in Richard Branson’s pocket. Born in Britain in 1950, Richard is a world-famous businessman. He’s best known for his bravery. He is exciting and has never been afraid to take a risk. Richard didn’t have an ordinary teenage life. His difficulty with reading and writing made school a constant struggle. However, he started a national magazine called Student when he was only 16 years old. At 17, he decided to set up a student advisory center to help other young people. Richard started the now-famous Virgin brand in the music industry in 1970. He began by opening a mail-order company that sold records of discount prices. Two years later, he built a recording studio and took chances on new musicians that no other recording companies would sign. In 1992, Richard sold Virgin Records for one billion dollars. By then, he had moved into many other industries, including publishing and air travel. Virgin Atlantic Airways, which Richard started in 1984, has long been Britain’s second-largest international airline. However, Richard has always dreamed about flying even higher. In 2004, he founded a space tourism company called Virgin Galactic. Anyone with $200,000 to spare can go online and book a ticket to travel in space in the future.

The race for space was over. The $ 10 million Ansari X Prize had been won by a rocket called SpaceShipOne. The privately owned spaceship flew up to a height of 115 km, 15 km more than the height that the rules asked for. The flight took place on 4th October. “Today we have made history,” said Peter Diamandis, one of the men who created the prize. The prize was offered to try and create an interest in private space travel. Many people believed this would be a multi-billion-dollar business in a few years with people paying a lot of money to take a trip on rockets like SpaceShipOne. Pilot Brian Binnie was welcomed on the ground by all his family and Paul Allen, who put forward the money for the rocket. He was also met by businessman Richard Branson. Richard Branson had started Virgin Galactic and had plans to start flights using SpaceShipOne technology. Richard believed he would be able to offer space flights for about $200,000. He also hoped to fly 3,000 people into space over the next five years.

W: Good morning, everyone, and thank you for coming to the new Teen Program here at the Park Hill Leisure Center. I'd like to take you through the program, the classes available, describe the building itself, and then give you some information about how to sign up for the sports and activities we offer. Afterwards, you'll have an opportunity to take a tour of the center, and also have some time with our instructors. Let's go through the classes first. As you can see from the Teen Program handout in your pack, we have lots of classes on offer. Our instructors are highly qualified and have lots of experience of training young people. Diana is our dance instructor, and she gives classes in jazz on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Jim usually takes the football practice, but this year he will be running the baseball practice. This class has been changed from Saturday to Sunday afternoons. Steve will take the table tennis class on Monday evening. The badminton course is for beginners, and this will be taken by Stella, who was last year's under-21 badminton winner, so you'll be in good hands with her expert advice. The day of this course is still to be arranged but it's likely to be Tuesday. We'll confirm the day by the end of this week.
