Harbin Polar Bear Hotel is a part of the second-stage project of Harbin Polarland. It is designed by famous designers from Russia and Japan. It was completed at the end of December, 2020. Known as the first polar bear hotel in the world, it opened on March 12, 2021 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province.
Located in Harbin Polar Park, the hotel will provide visitors with a special and unforgettable experience with polar bears. Thirty-three planes of strong glass have been fixed in the hotel, allowing visitors to have dinner with the bears while watching them nearby. From any room, visitors can see the animals through the glass and even sleep with them on the other side of the glass at night.
Outside the hotel is a park where the polar bears can skate, play in the snow and enjoy the sunshine.
A high-tech area has also been built. Children can use technology to play hide-and-seek with polar animals like bears in a physical environment. It looks like that it is real. It is the best choice for tourists who love animals.

Pleased to be here today. My name’s Joan and I’d like to share with you something about my French learning. I still remember when I first started to learn the language I didn’t really have a problem with the pronunciation. I just had a hard time memorizing words. But I made a great effort and soon I was scoring ten out of ten in all of the tests. By the time I got to university, I could do some writing and translations without much difficulty, and I actually enjoyed learning the grammar rules. Then as part of my university course I had to go and live in France for a year. As soon as I arrived, I realized I didn’t know how to order the type of coffee I liked, and trying to find somewhere to live or stay was something difficult to deal with. I called people about information in the paper, but I had to keep putting the phone down because I couldn’t understand a word they were saying — they all spoke so quickly!I could see then that there’s no point in just knowing words if you can’t hold a conversation with a native speaker. The ability to speak freely is what helps you get a job, hold a conversation or just buy things you need.

W: When I was younger I was in an organization called the Guides. Guides are girls who are between 10 and 14 who get together once a week to do things like having competitions and playing games and going camping. I really enjoyed being in the Guides. There’s a similar organization called the Scouts for boys although I think these days girls can be Scouts and maybe boys can be Guides — I’m not sure. Anyway I used to go camping quite a lot with Guides. I remember I went one weekend and it was the same weekend as my birthday and I was going to be 13 that weekend. We had a really good weekend. We cooked different things and we played games. We didn’t really get much sleep as you generally don’t when you’re sleeping in a tent with a lot of people at your age. You tend to stay up all night.
So on my birthday which was on Sunday, everybody sang Happy Birthday to me and they gave me a cake and they wrote a card for me and I had a really nice day. That evening I went home and I was so tired and I started to unpack my things. And then the doorbell rang and my friend arrived and then one by one — it was very strange — all of my friends arrived, and what had happened was my parents had organized a wonderful birthday party for me! I was so excited. We had a great time. We went bowling and it was really a day to remember.

M: World Sleep Day, observed on March the twenty-first, was created to bring attention to the growing number of sleep problems worldwide. Sleep is a natural part of human life, but many people in the modern world ignore its importance. As a result, sleep problems are more common. In 2002, scientists at the University of Athens in Greece conducted a survey of over 35,000 people in 10 countries around the world, including China. The survey showed 31.6 percent were unable to sleep, another 17.5 percent had less serious problems with sleep, for example, 11.6 percent said that they felt very sleepy during the day. Pressure from school or work and a fast pace of life would be the main causes. However, noise pollution and light pollution in bigger cities may also contribute to poor-quality sleep. The short-term effects of this are being tired and having trouble concentrating. If this happens for a long time, the risks of gaining weight and having a heart attack may increase. There are many things you can do to improve the quality of your sleep. First, you should have regular sleep habits. Try to go to bed and wake up around the same time each day. You also need to make your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet so that heat, light and noise do not disturb you when you sleep. At night, you should also avoid things that contain caffeine, such as chocolate, coffee, tea and many soft drinks, as caffeine may keep you from sleeping.

M: Hi! My name is Stephen and I live in a tiny flat in London. I don’t live with my parents. They are living in the countryside. Sometimes I take a bus to visit them. An advantage of city life is having everything you need so close at hand. Living beside the underground station means I don’t need a car to get around, which saves me money. I take the underground to work every day. I can also use it when I go to visit my friends and relatives. Also, there are shopping centers and museums everywhere.
Of course, London, just like many other large cities, has its problems. Londoners don’t chat on the train or the bus and there is much less sharing spirit than in the country where my parents live. That’s why they couldn’t get used to the city life. They always want to share something with others. In fact, they don’t understand how I can put up with (忍受) the noise and pollution either. However, I see that as a small problem. As a famous poet once said, “He who is tired of London is tired of life. ”

Introducing yourself, whether you are a new student or an employee, can be difficult sometimes. Today, I will offer some tips to you. Give your name first. Experts said that it’s helpful to give your first name, pause, and then give your first and last name, like “Hello, my name is June, June Thompson.” The repetition makes it more likely that others will remember your name. Second, share why you are taking the class. If you’re in a college course, you can share your intended major. Or if you’re taking a class for a certification for a job, you could share what it is you do for work. At last, offer personable details, like hobbies or interests you have. If you are involved in sports or have pets or like to travel, the end of your introduction is a good place to give this information. You could say something like, “When I’m free, I like to train for and run in half-marathons.” This gives others a memorable impression. For more you concern, please continue to focus on our program. See you tomorrow at the same time.

M: Pedal Power is a small charity based mainly in the UK. At Pedal Power, they collect second-hand bikes in the UK and send them to some of the poorest regions in the world. When they distribute bikes overseas, they don’t give them away for free. In order to continue operating they need to have a constant supply of bikes which they send out every six months. In August 2000, they simply ran out of money. It was a terrible situation. Fortunately, in October 2001 they won an Enterprise Award which helped them enormously.
Dan Pearman is the founder of Pedal Power. He got the idea of exporting bicycles to developing countries while he was in Ecuador. Dan Pearman went there in 1993 and he joined a voluntary organization. Where Dan Pearman lived in Ecuador was a rural area. His neighbor had the only bicycle in the village, whereas everyone else walked everywhere. His neighbor’s business was very successful. For years Dan Pearman couldn’t understand why. Then he realized having a bike meant his neighbor could reach anywhere he liked without much trouble. Other local carpenters could only accept jobs nearby, so no matter how skilled they were, they could never do as many jobs as his neighbor. When he returned to the UK in 1998, he started planning Pedal Power

M: “Tennis—I’m saying goodbye.” In an article published in a famous magazine, Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova told the world she would leave the sporting world.
Over the last couple of years, she has been troubled with health problems. And that stopped her from returning to her best condition. Also, the death of her long-time friend, Kobe Bryant, played a role in her decision to retire.
People around the world got to know Sharapova when she won Wimbledon in 2004. As one of the best tennis players, she won many big events: the 2006 US Open, the 2008 Australian Open, and the 2012 and 2014 French Open. She also came in second in the 2012 Olympic Games.
For 16 straight years from 2004 to 2020, Sharapova was one of the world’s richest sportswomen. Off the court, she made millions of dollars from companies such as Evian and Nike.
She also wrote, “And so in whatever I might choose for my next chapter, my next mountain, I’ll still be pushing. I’ll still be climbing. I’ll still be growing.”

W: OK, everyone. Today’s presentation is by Nathan. Start when you’re ready, Nathan.
M: OK. Hello, everyone. Our presentation is called A smaller world and it’s about technology and cultural change. The talk focuses on technology that makes the world smaller. First of all, can you imagine life without cars and planes? Before the invention of these means of transport, people could only travel by train or boat, and they couldn’t travel very fast. Now, with cars and planes, we can travel farther and faster. Some people even live in one country and work in another because they can fly to work. Before we move onto the next type of technology, it is important to remember that planes and cars do have their disadvantages. They can be dangerous and they cause a lot of pollution, and this also changes the way we live.
OK. Second, communications technology, like television and the Internet, certainly makes the world smaller. We stay in our house or office, but we can see news and shows from all around the world. With the Internet, we can write and chat to people all over the world. But nowadays, people spend more time using the technology than they do meeting other people. We’re spending more and more of our time in our houses, talking to strangers in other countries, than we are with our friends and neighbors. My grandmother could name all the people in her street, but I don’t even know the names of my neighbors.
W: OK. Thank you, Nathan, that was great.

Back to the news. Last Friday a storm hit two villages destroying fourteen houses. Seventeen others were so badly damaged that their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows. One person was killed, and nine were badly injured and taken to hospital. A number of other people received small injuries. Altogether over two hundred were left homeless as a result of the storm.
A farmer said the storm began early in the morning and lasted over an hour. He was in the kitchen with his wife and his children when they heard a loud noise. A few minutes later their house fell down on top of them. They managed to climb out but then he saw that one of his children was missing. He went back inside and found his child was safe but very frightened.
A woman said that her husband had just left for work when she noticed that her house was shaking. She rushed outside immediately with her children. There was no time for her to take anything. A few minutes later, the roof came down.
Soldiers went to the area to help the people in trouble.
