Sweden has seen a four-percent drop in the number of international air passengers. The air travel was down further, by nine percent. Meanwhile, the number of passengers who traveled by train jumped to a record 32 million last year.

The changes come as the Swedish-born action of " flight shaming" is getting support. More than ever, people are worried about climate (气候)change. They feel ashamed to use any kind of traffic that depends on fossil fuels  (化石燃料). Nearly 23,000 Swedes have promised to go flight-free. They have, instead, shown interest in ''climate-smart travel.''

'' Flight shaming'' has put pressure on airlines  (航空公司)to cut down on their greenhouse gas emissions  (温室气体排放). Some of them have stopped using old and fuel-thirsty planes. The models they use now are lighter. Some airlines are also asking passengers to pre -order food. This helps to further cut down the weight of planes. As a result, much less fuel is being used now.

Richard Gustafson is the C. E. O, of a Swedish airline. He also supports the "flight shaming" action. However, he doesn't believe putting an end to flying is the only way out. Instead, airlines must take action to cut pollution. "The journey toward a cleaner world will be long, " Gustafson said. " One day, a scientist will invent jet engines that don't depend on fossil fuels. I think those planes will appear in, say, 20 years' time. "

    8. According to the article, last year in Sweden, _______________.

    A. the train travel was down further

    B. the number of train passengers dropped

    C. the number of international air passengers increased

    9. The underlined phrase "climate-smart travel" probably means ________________.

    A. depend on coal B. travel faster than planes

    C. are good for the environment D. are more expensive than planes

    10. To support the "flight shaming" action, some airlines have ________________.

    ① used lighter planes

    ② put off their flights

③ given up some old planes

④ asked passengers to order food before flights

    A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④

    11. What does Richard Gustafson expect to happen?

    A. The "flight shaming" action will be canceled.

    B. A new model of plane will be invented to cut pollution.

    C. Railway travel will completely take the place of air travel.

    D. The "flight shaming" action will spread to more countries.

    【答案】8. D    9. C    10. C    11. B

It all started with a group of friends and a simple bet. Twins Coby and Cory Cotton, and their friends Garrett Hilbert, Cody Jones and Tyler Toney were roommates at Texas A&M University. One day Tyler bet Garret that he could make a crazy over-the-shoulder basketball shot. Tyler made the shot. Then the rest of the guys tried their own even crazier shots! Each of them was eager to perform better than the others. One of them set up a camera to capture the action, he looked through the lens (镜头) and commented, “Dude, perfect.”

Little did the friends know that their video which they posted online would go viral. In just one week it hit 100,000 views. They decided to call their group “Dude Perfect” and began to try even harder trick shots. Soon they had American talk shows asking to air their videos on TV. Today, Dude Perfect tops the You Tube channel charts in the United States. In addition, the guys have their own TV series, The Dude Perfect Show, popular toys named after them, and an online store, selling things from T-shirts to backpacks. It is said that the group’s yearly earnings from YouTube alone are about US$2 million a year.

The Dude Perfect guys make most of their videos in a 25,000-square-foot building in San Francisco. Inside there is a full-size basketball court, soccer field, an area for golfing, cool cars they can drive around, lots of video-production equipment and more. While making their videos, they have spent time with some of the world’s best athletes and broke several world records. The secret to the accuracy (精准) of their shots is no secret at all—a lot of practice and a spirit of never give up.

Since Dude Perfect started, all five of the guys have married, and three have children. Although all of them are now responsible adults, they are still kids at heart, and that comes through clearly in their video and TV show.

    12. Which of the following can best explain the meaning of “go viral” in paragraph 2?

    A. Help to start their own business.

    B. Get widely spread online.

    C. Bring them a large sum of money.

    D. Draw attention from TV station.

    13. What can be learned about the members of Dude Perfect from the passage?

    A. The amount of travel they have to do.

    B. The main place where they produce videos.

    C. The yearly earnings from their online store.

    D. The cost of training they have received.

    14. What have the members of Dude Perfect done since the group formed?

    A. Started their own families.

    B. Taught trick shots in their university.

    C. Changed their jobs a lot.

    D. Designed various sports toys.

    15. How does the passage describe the members of Dude Perfect?

    A. Thoughtful. B. Confident.

    C. Competitive. D. Kind.

    【答案】12. B    13. B    14. A    15. C

Are you happy most of the time? Or do you easily get angry sometimes? Everyone has a different temperament(脾气). It is usually believed that both genes(基因)and environment may influence people’s temperament in different ways. Scientists have found that the season of the birth also plays a role.

Scientists from Budapest, Hungary, studied 400 university students. In the study, the students needed to finish some questions to know which of four kinds of temperament they most had. From the questions, scientists found that the students always answered something like “my mood(心情)often changes for no reason” and “I love to deal with new projects, even if it is risky” these answers were then connected with their birthdays.

They discovered that people born in summer easily change between sad and happy moods compared to people born in winter. Those who always feel positive are mostly born in spring and summer.

The study also found that those born in fall less probably had a mood of sadness which may easily drive them to cry, while those in winter were not easier to be angry.

Scientists said that this was probably because the seasons had an influence on certain chemicals(化学物质)in the human body. And the chemicals are important to people’s moods even in adult life. “It seems that when you are born may increase or decrease your change of developing certain mood disorders” scientist Xenia Gonda told the Telegraph.

    42. What are the characteristics about people who were born in fall?(不超过15个词)

    45. 请给短文拟一个适当的英文题目。

Recently, a survey was done among 20,000 people about the ways of reading. 【答案】    Recently, a survey was done among 20,000 people about the ways of reading. Here is what we have learned from it.
60% of the people like to read on mobile phones or e-readers, while only 38.4% choose to read paper books. So we can know that more and more people prefer to read e-books rather than paper books. However, whatever way of reading we choose, it can help increase our knowledge and open our eyes.
As for me, I am still used to reading paper books. Whenever I open a paper book, the smell of paper reminds me of the stories in the books from my mom when I was a little kid. Because of this, I got into the habit of reading. When I read paper books now, they always bring me the old feelings. On the other hand, compared with the electronic devices, reading paper books is good for eyes. Therefore, I believe e-books won’t take the place of paper books in my heart.
