三、句型
1) My father is in his fifties.
★“in one’s +数词复数”表示“某人年龄处于某段时间”
in one’s twenties/thirties/ 在某人二十/三十/四十几岁时
★ 表示整十的数词后加s变成复数,也可以用“in the +数词复数”在短语中,表示“在某个年代”。
in the /80s/ 在70/80/90年代
2) You will not find anything unusual about him until you learn more.
★ till和until意思是“到。。。。为止”,一般情况下两者可以互换,但till不如until正式。
eg. Walk till/until you see a white house.
★ not…till/until…直到。。。。。。才
eg. I did not go to bed till/until I finished my homework.
3) He gave our TV to a family who could not afford one.
划线部分为定语从句。
4) When I was a little girl, I could not understand why my father always seemed to be kinder than to his own family.
★ seem可用作连系动词或不及物动词,意为“似乎,好像”,
“主语+seem+(to be )+表语”,表语多为名词或形容词,有时是其他的词或短语,以说明主语的特征或状态,例如:
Eg. Tom seems (to be) a clever boy.
The man over there____________ a new teacher.
★“主语+seem+不定式”,此句型中的seem与不定式一起构成复合谓语。
Eg. Mrs Green__________________ (似乎不)like the idea.
The young man seemed to have changed much.
★“It seems+ that从句”,其中it是形式主语,that引导主语从句。
Eg. It seems that no one knows what has happened in the park.
