Step 3  过去进行时

1. 构成及用法

   过去进行时由“was / were +动词-ing”构成，表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行的动作。常与过去进行时连用的时间状语有at eight / nine ... (o’clock) yesterday morning, at that time，from eight to ten yesterday morning等。

如: Alice was doing her homework at six yesterday evening.

Mike and his brother were playing soccer from three to four yesterday afternoon.

2. 句式

肯定式：主语+was/were+动词-ing (+其他).

如：I was swimming at that time.

否定式:主语+wasn’t/weren’t +动词-ing (+其他). 

如：They weren’t listening to music at ten yesterday morning.

疑问式:Was / Were+主语+动词-ing (+其他)?

其肯定回答为：Yes, 主语(人称代词)+ was / were.；

否定回答为：No, 主语(人称代词)+ wasn’t / weren’t. 

如：—Was Joe reading at the time of the rainstorm?

—Yes, he was. / No, he wasn’t.

过去进行时和现在进行时的区别

现在进行时 

含义: 表示现在正在进行的动作。

结构： is/am/are + doing

e.g. I am having an English class.          

过去进行时

含义: 表示过去某个时刻正在进行的动作。

结构:  was/were + doing

e.g. I was having an English class at this time yesterday.

过去进行时和一般过去时的区别

过去进行时表示过去正在进行的动作, 而一般过去时则表示一个完整的动作。

e.g. They were writing letters to their friends last night.昨晚他们在写信给他们的朋友。 (没有说明信是否写完)

They wrote letters to their friends last night. 他们昨晚写了信给他们的朋友。 (表达了他们已写好的意思, 整个写的过程已完成。)

过去进行时中的when和while

when和while都可表示“当……的时候”, 引导时间状语从句。你知道两者在过去进行时中的用法有什么不同吗？

请仔细观察下面的例句，然后补全空格中的内容。

① I was walking to school when I saw a cat in a tree.

②When Sally arrived home, her mother was cleaning the house.

主句的动作是持续性的，而从句动作是短暂性的，此时用______引导时间状语从句，主句用__________时态，从句用一般过去时态。

③ While I was sleeping in the bedroom, someone knocked at the door.

④ David fell while he was riding his bike.

主句的动作是短暂性的，从句的动作是持续性的，此时用_______引导从句，主句用__________时态，从句用过去进行时态。

⑤ While Andy was waiting for the bus, he was reading a newspaper.

⑥ He was cleaning his car while I was cooking.

主句和从句的动作在过去的某时刻或某段时间同时发生, 而且动作都是持续性

的, 此时用_______引导从句, 而且主句和从句都用_________时态。

根据汉语意思完成英语句子。
