The freezing Northeast hasn't been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags were packed before you could say “sunshine”I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C(维生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness.Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets(at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best partparticularly to my taste, dulled by months of coldweather root vegetableswas a 7 am.adventure to the Sarasota farmers' market that proved to be more than worth the early wakeup call.

The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7 am. to 1 pm., rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets.Baskets of perfect red strawberriesthe redpainted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes.

Disappointed by many a broken, vineripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, I've refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they're unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown's Grove Farm's stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real dealand at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldn't be experiencing again for months.

Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown's Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, whereluckily for meI was planning to have dinner that very night.Without even seeing the menu, I knew I'd be ordering every tomato on it.

4What did the author think of her winter life in New York?

    AExciting. BBoring.

    CRelaxing.  DAnnoying.

5What made the author's getting up early worthwhile?

    AHaving a swim.

    BBreathing in fresh air.

    CWalking in the morning sun.

    DVisiting a local farmers' market.

    6. What can we learn about tomatoes sold in New York in winter?

AThey are soft.  BThey look nice.

CThey taste great.  DThey are juicy.

7What was the author going to do that evening?

AGo to a farm.  BCheck into a hotel.

CEat in a restaurant.  DBuy fresh vegetables.

    C

A friend of mine met with an accident driving in darkness. His legs were so hurt that he couldn't move. What was the worst was that he found himself unable to ask for help—his mobile phone went out of work.Nothing could be done but to wait in cold wilderness.8 hours laterday brokeand then the rescue arrived.

It is almost unimaginable that he could stand the horror in the darkness for so long.Even more surprising was his explanation“First of all I checked up my physical conditions and found myself not in fatal danger. As there was no way to call for helpI leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from bleeding. In this way I dozed (打盹)off.”

His story put an end to my regret for the failure of an exploration adventure that happened last year.A group of young men tried to explore a mountain cave and got lost.Unable to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of direction. Finally they fell dead in fear and exhaustion. The place where they got lost was only about 10 meters away from the opening of the caveIf they tried to calm themselvesthey would probably sense a faint light shining not far away.

Don't you think that you can compare it with life itselfWhen you meet with obstacles (障碍) in life and workyou are lost in darkness.Mind you it's unclear yet and you needn't put up struggle immediately. But a person who can afford to do so must have foresight as well as a great courage.

8.What was the greatest trouble for the writer's friend?

    AIt was very dark.

BHe was hurt and couldn't move.

CHe couldn't get help with his mobile phone.

    DIt was very cold.

9.What did the writer's friend do when he was waiting for help?

    AHe checked his physical conditions.

BHe tried to keep his wound from bleeding.

    CHe slept for a while.

    DAll the above.

10.How did the writer's friend feel when he was waiting for help?

    AHorrible.  BWorried.  CAngry.  DCalm.

    第二节  (5小题;每小题2分,满分10)

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Building Trust in a Relationship Again

Imagine a child standing on a diving board four feet high and asking himself the question: "Should I jump? " This is what motivation or the lack of it can do. Motivation and goal setting are the two sides of the same coin.     11     Like the child on the diving board, you will stay undecided.

12    More than that, how should you stay motivated to achieve the goal? First, you need to evaluate yourself, your values your strengths, your weaknesses, your achievements, your desires, etc. Only then should you set your goals.

You also need to judge the quality and depth of your motivation. This is quite important, because it is directly related to your commitment. There are times when your heart is not in your work.     13    So, slow down and think what you really want to do at that moment. Clarity(清晰)of thoughts can help you move forward.

Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible.     14     They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals.

Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a Pilot but can’t become one because your eyesight is not good enough.     15     You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal.

You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals.

    A. This can affect your work.

    B. So how should you motivate yourself?

    C. However, this should not discourage you.

    D. So why should we try to set specific goals?

    E. They can change according to circumstances.

    F. Motivation is what you need most to do a good job.

    G. Without motivation, you can neither set a goal nor reach it.

    第二节 读后续写(满分25分)

    阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

A few years ago,a child was lost in the woods. He was out with his brothers and sisters gathering berries, and was accidentally separated from them, and lost. The children, after looking in vain for some time in search of the little wanderer, returned, just in the dusk of the evening,to inform their parents that their brother was lost and could not be found.

The woods,at that time, were full of bears. The darkness of a cloudy night was rapidly coming on,and the alarmed father, gathering a few of his neighbors, hurried to search for the lost child. The mother remained at home almost distracted with suspense(心神不宁)。

As the clouds gathered, and the darkness increased, the father and neighbors with highly excited fears went across the woods in all directions and raised loud shouts to attract the attention of the child.

But their search was in vain. They could find no trace of the wanderer and as they stood under the branches of the tall trees and listened, they wished they might hear his weak voice. However,no sound was brought to their ears, but the strong wind as it swept through the thick branches of the forest.

The gathering clouds threatened an approaching storm, and the deep darkness of the night had already enveloped them.It was difficult to imagine what were the feelings of that father. And who could imagine how deep the worry which filled the heart of that mother,as she heard the wind and looked at the darkness in which her child was wandering!

The search was continued in vain till nine o'clock in the evening. Then, one of the parties was sent back to the village,to collect the villagers for a more extensive search.Every heart sympathized in the sorrows of the anxious parents.Soon groups of the people were seen climbing the hill. Before long, the rain began to fall, but no news came back to the village of the lost child.Hardly an eye was that night closed in sleep, and there was not a mother who did not feel for the parents.
