1.★★★★★
My favorite shoes! I've been to many conferences where my business fellows have told me how much they like my shoes.Just wearing them makes me feel more calm and content in the office.I recommend them to all of my coworkers, and I own a pair of each color.
2.★
These are the worst shoes I have ever worn! The leather came off after only one week, and everybody thought they were ugly. The bottoms of the shoes made everything slippery. My employer fired me because he hated them! From then on, I would only wear Brand X shoes!
3.★★★
These shoes do exactly what shoes are supposed to do. There isn't anything too special about them.In the morning, I put them on and go about my day. They look delightful enough, and they are quite durable.I will probably buy another pair.
4.★★★★
These shoes are my most cherished (珍爱的) possessions.I met my bride while buying a pair of these shoes. She was a customer service employee at the store I bought them at, and after she sold me three pairs, I asked her for her phone number and we started dating.Soon after that, we were engaged. We are getting married this afternoon, and I couldn't be happier.
1.How many pairs of leather dress shoes does the first customer own?
A.One. B.Two.
C.Three. D.Four.
根据第一位顾客的评价中的“I own a pair of each color”和文章开头对鞋子颜色的介绍“Color:Black
leather/Brown leather/Red leather/Natural leather”可知,这家鞋店的这种鞋共有四种颜色,所以这位顾客有四双这种鞋。故选D项。
2.Which customer do you feel gives the most balanced and objective view?
A.Customer 1. B.Customer 2.
C.Customer 3. D.Customer 4.
根据第三位顾客对所买鞋的评价中的“These shoes do exactly what shoes are supposed to do...they are quite durable.”
3.Why does the fourth customer like the shoes?
A.He got to know his bride while buying them.
B.They make him feel more comfortable.
C.They are made to last.
D.They make him attractive.
答案:A

It is not only praise or punishment that determines a child's level of confidence. There are some other important ways we shape our kids—particularly by giving instructions and commands in a negative or positive choice of words. For example, we can say to a child “Don't run into traffic!” or “Stay on the footpath close to me.” In using the latter, you will be helping your kids to think and act positively, and to feel competent in a wide range of situations, because they know what to do, and aren't scaring themselves with what not to do.
Actually, it is all in the way the human mind works. What we think, we automatically rehearse. For example, if someone offered you a million dollars not to think of a blue monkey for two minutes, you wouldn't be able to do it.When a child is told “Don't fall off the tree”, he will think of two things:“don't” and “fall off the tree”. That is, he will automatically create the picture of falling off the tree in his mind.A child who is vividly imagining falling off the tree is much more likely to fall off.So it is far better to use “Hold on to the tree carefully”.
Clear, positive instructions help kids to understand the right way to do things.Kids do not always know how to be safe, or how to react to the warning of the danger in negative words. So parents should make their commands positive.“Sam, hold on firmly to the side of the boat” is much more useful than “Don't you dare to fall out of the boat?” or “How do you think I'll feel if you drown?” The changes are small but the difference is obvious.
Children learn how to guide and organize themselves from the way we guide them with our words, so it pays to be positive.
4.Positive choice of words helps kids to ________.
A.learn in different situations
B.do things carefully
C.build up their confidence
D.improve their imagination
It is not only praise or punishment that determines a child's level of confidence. There are some other important ways we shape our kids—particularly by giving instructions and commands in a negative or positive choice of words.
5.What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A.A child will act on what is instructed.
B.One can't help imagining what is heard.
C.A child will fall off the tree when told not to.
D.One won't think of a blue monkey when given money.
What we think, we automatically rehearse. For example, if someone offered you a million dollars not to think of a blue monkey for two minutes, you wouldn't be able to do it.
6.Which of the following commands helps kids to be safe?
A.How do you think I'll feel if you get hurt?
B.Don't play by the lake.
C.Don't you dare to walk through the red light?
D.Fasten your seat belt.
Clear, positive instructions help kids to understand the right way to do things. Kids do not always know how to be safe, or how to react to the warning of the danger in negative words.
7.The main idea of the passage is that ________.
A.positive instructions guide kids
B.praise makes kids confident
C.right instructions keep kids safe
D.clear commands make kids different
答案:A
In using the latter, you will be helping your kids to think and act positively, and to feel competent in a wide range of situations, because they know what to do, and aren't scaring themselves with what not to do. 故选A。
Sometimes it can be hard to recognize a true friend, one who is loyal(忠诚的)and one who is worth keeping by your side. The suggestions provided in this article will help to guide you in working out which friends are likely to be true.
Be able to trust your friends. You should be able to trust true friends and they should return this trust. Do your friends tell you secrets that no one else knows? Ask you for advice? __1__ However, if your friends hide things from you and act secretively, this could be a sign that they do not trust you, but it could also mean your friends keep to themselves or don't like to reveal too much about themselves.
Consider comfort. How comfortable do your friends feel when they are around you? Watch them, are they being themselves or are they timid (胆怯的) around you? __2__ True friendships can take a while to develop, but if your friends are true, they should feel comfortable around you.
__3__ This is not meant in a romantic way, but consider whether your friends are comfortable with the touch. If your friends are fine with hugging you, leaning on you, resting their heads on your shoulder and so forth, then you can judge they love you.
Think about loyalty. True friends are always there for one another. If you are in need of a helping hand, your true friends should be there to offer it to you. __4__ You can trust friends with anything, knowing that they will be loyal and will not let your secrets out.
Look at how you fight. Nearly all best friends fight, so if you and your friend have a little dispute(争论), don't sweat it! __5__. They will not tell each other's secrets and they still care about each other.
A.Consider the touch barrier.
B.Consider how you insult each other.
C.They should know that you are not serious.
D.These are sure signs that your friends trust you.
E.Are they acting fake—perhaps hiding an insecurity?
F.True friends should not get one another into trouble.
G.True friends will remain faithful and find their way through a fight.
Do your friends tell you secrets that no one else knows? Ask you for advice? However, if your friends hide things from you and act secretively, this could be a sign that they do not trust you(然而,如果你的朋友对你隐瞒事情并且表现得很神秘,那么这表明他们可能不信任你)可知,前面两点是你朋友信任你的明显迹象。
How comfortable do your friends feel when they are around you? Watch them, are they being themselves or are they timid (胆怯的)around you?(当你的朋友和你在一起时,他们感觉有多舒服? Are they acting fake—perhaps hiding an insecurity?(他们是不是在装模作样——也许是在隐藏一种不安全感?)
This is not meant in a romantic way, but consider whether your friends are comfortable with the touch.(这并不是说要用浪漫的方式,而是要考虑你的朋友们是否喜欢这种触摸。)
If you are in need of a helping hand, your true friends should be there to offer it to you.(如果你需要帮助,你真正的朋友应该在那里提供给你。)
Nearly all best friends fight, so if you and your friend have a little dispute(争论), don't sweat it!(几乎所有最好的朋友都会吵架,如果你和你的朋友有小小的争执,别担心!)和后句They will not tell each other's secrets and they still care about each other.(他们不会说出对方的秘密,他们仍然关心对方。)
Summer vacation had just begun, and Alex and Maria were ready to spend all day outside. They decided to walk to the neighborhood park, where there was a river that they liked to swim in when it was particularly hot.
When they got to the river, they saw that it was too deep to swim in. Alex and Maria were disappointed. On the other side of the river, about fifty yards away, there was a fountain from which the water is flowing out. “We should go to play in the fountain,” Maria said.“How will we get there?” asked Alex.
Maria looked around the grassy riverbank and noticed a few log sand branches lying close to the water. “We could build a bridge!” she said. She ran over to a thick log that looked long enough to be placed across the river. Together, she and Alex lifted the log onto their shoulders and walked it to the water. Here, they stopped. How would they get the branch across?
Maria suggested throwing it down into the water and seeing if it reached the other side. That seemed improper to Alex—what if the branch did not reach the other side of the river, and got stuck or swept away by the water? Then they would be unable to walk all the way across the river.
Maria wondered if they could measure the distance from the riverbank they stood on to the other shore. They put the log carefully down and decided to test the distance with lighter, thinner branches. They found a few branches and they tied the branches together using their hair bands.
At their first attempt, they tied two branches together and went back to the river to test the length. The branches only reached the center of the water. After tying two more branches together to the initial branches, Alex and Maria were able to get the thin model bridge to touch the far bank.“Hooray!” Maria said. “Now we know how long the log needs to be.”
答案
Paragraph 1:
They set the tied branches on the ground next to the log. The log was luckily the exact length of the tied branches. Alex and Maria were very happy and they placed the log across the river. Then they fixed their side of the log with branches and rocks before they walked across it to reach the other side of the river.
Paragraph 2:
Alex and Maria managed to get to the other side of the river. When they got there, they secured the other side of the log with branches and rocks, too, and looked back at their handiwork. It had been a good day's work, and they were indeed proud of that. It really felt good that they finally succeeded in solving the problem by using their intelligence. Now they were free to enjoy the cool water in the fountain.
