      Rtterdam in the Netherlands has turned an unused canal (运河) int a wave pl, but it tk years t becme a reality.
      Edward van Dngen and Edwin van Viegen, tw big surfers, had a dream in 2012 t create a place where they culd always surf in Rtterdam and didn’t have t travel t the Nrth Sea, but nt everyne liked their idea.       Man-made waves are nt new. In fact, ne f the earliest wave pls was built in Munich, Germany in 1929. Peple mved up and dwn in the pl where the waves were made by a large paddle (桨).The first wave pl in the US pened in Tempe, Arizna in 1969.
      But wave pls are much higher tech tday. Rtterdam’s wave pl uses a real canal that was nce used fr shipping. T build it, they created a special underwater cncrete (混凝土) basin that allwed the water t be safely emptied withut destrying the histric quays (码头). After the water was emptied, a wave-making mechanism (机械装置) was put in, and the basin was filled with clean water frm the Rtte River.
      The surfing mechanism was develped by Surf Lch, a Califrnia cmpany, t mimic the way waves frm in the cean. This technlgy is pwered by eight engines thrugh wind pwer frm the Nrth Sea.
