Way back in the early 1940s — lng befre smartphnes, vice assistants and semi-autnmus weapns — the late great sci-fi writer Isaac Asimv drew up a set f principles fr the develpment f advanced rbtic systems.
Asimv was essentially an ptimist, and his famus Three Laws f Rbtics have influence in science and technlgy circles t this day.

Nw, almst 80 years later, legal academic and artificial intelligence expert Frank Pasquale has added fur additinal principles. Prfessr Pasquale says while Asimv’s ideas were well funded, they assumed a certain technlgical trajectry (轨迹) that n lnger hlds — innvatins are nt always fr the gd f humanity.
“Whereas Asimv is talking abut hw we have rbts help peple and nt harm them, I’m talking abut hw we guide the directin f technlgy,” he says. And he draws an imprtant distinctin between AI and what he terms IA — intelligence augmentatin (增强).

In 1924, the wrld-famus sculptr Gutzn Brglum and his thirteen-year-ld sn tk a trip tgether ut west. They left their hme in Cnnecticut and, days later, gt ff a train in Rapid City, Suth Dakta. Only abut six thusand peple lived in Rapid City; Suth Dakta had been a state fr nly thirty-five years. The Brglums actually were just in the center f the United States.
Gutzn had cme t Suth Dakta t see if he culd find a muntain t carve int the biggest sculpture in the cuntry. He was a patritic man, and his idea was t give America a sculpture t glrify it. Perhaps it culd be huge carvings f great Americans with heads as high as the tallest buildings. What an amazing idea! But many peple thught it was crazy. And n ne, nt even Brglum himself, realized hw hard it wuld be t d.
Gutzn and his sn, Lincln, traveled int the wild cuntry f the Black Hills. The Black Hills is an area 120 miles lng and sixty miles wide. It rises up fur thusand feet and mre. The Brglum party climbed t the tp f the tallest muntain, Harney Peak. Far away, Gutzn culd see a granite (花岗石) muntain. It std higher than the surrunding peaks. That wuld be the place fr his giant sculpture!
The name f the muntain was Munt Rushmre. Tday, huge six-stry-high carved heads f presidents Gerge Washingtn, Thmas Jeffersn, Thedre Rsevelt, and Abraham Lincln gaze ut frm high n the granite face f Munt Rushmre.
