Researchers f a new study wanted t predict (预测) hw the changing behavir f hurricanes and sea level rise as a result f climate change will alter the risks f flding in the nrtheastern U.S. Their results were wrrying. “Extreme flding events that used t be seen nce every 100 years may happen annually by the end f this century,” said study lead authr Amirhsein Begmhammadi.
T predict the risk f flding under different carbn emissin scenaris (碳排放情景), Begmhammadi and his c-wrkers develped a cmputer mdel t create different levels f strms and included predictins fr sea level rise.

In mre nrthern areas like Cnnecticut and New Yrk, sea level rise may be the main driver f the increased fld risk, while strm changes are less imprtant. Further suth, in areas like New Jersey and Virginia, bth factrs may cntribute a lt t higher fld risks.

Fr the mre nrthern part f the cast, the influence f sea level rise means it almst wn’t matter if strms becme mre pwerful because even smaller strms will be able t cause flding,” said Jeff Ollerhead, a castal gemrphlgist. “S even if the frequency and pwer f strms remain nearly the same, the effect f each strm will increase as sea levels cntinue t rise.”
T prepare fr this, peple living near the cast will have t adapt t mre frequent flding. “The best slutin is t mve up and back t higher grund further frm the cast. But nt every cmmunity will be willing r able t d s, and it will be imprtant t update building requirements t take int accunt the changing cnditins,” said Ollerhead.
      12. What des the underlined wrd “alter” prbably mean in the first paragraph?
      A. Change.B. Shw.C. Stp.D. Reduce.
      13. What des the cmputer mdel predict abut the mre nrthern part f the cast?
      A. Only big strms will cause damage.B. The pwer f strms will becme smaller.
      C. Sea level rise may play a key rle in fld risks.D. Carbn emissins will increase much mre rapidly.
      14. Which is Ollerhead’s advice fr peple living near the cast?
      A. Get clse t nature.B. Cut carbn emissins.
      C. Chse t relcate.D. Update reprts n flds.
      15. Which part f a website des the text belng t?
