The scial media platfrm Instagram nce made headlines fr limiting likes in an effrt t reduce the cmparisns and hurt feelings resulting frm attaching ppularity t sharing cntent. But d these effrts reslve mental health issues, r are they simply applying a band-aid t a
      wund?
It’s a small step in the right directin, says Jacqueline Sperling, a psychlgist wh wrks with yuth wh experience anxiety disrders.“Even if yu remve the likes, there cntinue t be pprtunities fr cmparisns and feedback. Peple still can cmpare themselves t thers, and peple still can pst cmments.”
Scial platfrms are designed t be addictive and are related t anxiety, depressin, and
even physical ailments(小病).This puts a large amunt f the ppulatin at an increased risk f
feeling anxius, depressed, r ill ver their scial media use. But what makes users cme back fr mre even when it can literally make them feel sick?
“When the utcme is unpredictable , the behavir is mre likely t repeat. Think f a slt machine(老虎机): if game players knew they were never ging t get mney by playing the game, then they never wuld play,” says Sperling. “The idea f a ptential future reward keeps the
machines in use. The same ges fr scial media sites. One des nt knw hw many likes a
picture will get, wh will like the picture, and when the picture will receive likes. The unknwn utcme and the pssibility f a desired utcme can keep users engaged with the sites.”
FOMO-fear f missing ut - als impacts the yuth greatly. Teenagers hpe t keep track f friends’ activities. If everyne else is using scial media sites, and if yu dn’t jin in, there’s
cncern that yu’ll miss chats, jkes, cnnectins, r invitatins. Missing experiences can create anxiety and depressin. When peple lk nline and see they’re excluded frm an activity, it can affect thughts and feelings, and can affect them physically.
In additin t limiting likes, as Instagram has dne, Sperling suggests scial platfrms cnsider decreasing mass sharing. They might functin mre as messaging services by
highlighting ne-n-ne cmmunicatins. Regardless f hw likely scial media giants are t change their ways, thugh, individuals can take cntrl f their wn behavir.
8 .What des Sperling think f Instagram’s measure?
      A .It’s strict. B .It’s limited. C .It’s bjective. D .It’s cnservative.
9 .What is prbably the majr reasn fr scial media addictin?
      A .Need fr self-expressin.
      B .Desire fr cnstant recgnitin.
      C .Expectatin f pssible surprises.
      D .lack f interest in real-life activities.
10 .What des Sperling alvise scial platfrms t d in the last paragraph?
      A .Restrict their service scales.
      B .Decrease ne-n-ne interactins
C .Limit the time users spend n them.
D .Shift the fcus frm sharing t messaging.
11 .What might the authr cntinue talking abut?
A .Redesign f scial media platfrms. B .Changes made by scial media giants.
C .Strategies fr individuals’ self-cntrl. D .Impact f scial media n mental health.
      D
Science fictin stries have imagined future peple living in undergrund cities n Mars, in asterids, and in space statins far frm the sun. But if humans are ever t survive in any f thse tugh envirnments, they will need ways t grw fd using limited resurces-and phtsynthesis (光合作用), the wildly successful yet energy-inefficient prcess by which plants turn sunlight int sugar, might nt cut it.
Nw, sme scientists are wndering whether it’s pssible t prduce fd mre efficiently by skipping phtsynthesis altgether, and grwing plants in the dark.
The idea sunds as science fictinal as cities n Mars. But a team f researchers has taken a first step tward realizing it with a study published in Nature Fd in June. The research shws it is pssible t grw algae (藻类), edible yeast (食用酵母), and mushrm-prducing fungi (真菌) in the dark by supplying them with a carbn-based chemical that didn’t riginate frm plants, but instead was manufactured using slar electricity. That is, this methd replaced bilgical
phtsynthesis with a partly artificial prcess fr turning sunlight int fd. Their prcess is a versin f artificial phtsynthesis, a term that has been arund fr years and includes varius appraches t transfrming sunlight, water, and CO2 int liquid fuels and ther chemicals.
The researchers say their wrk represents the first time an artificial phtsynthesis system
has been paired with an attempt t grw cmmn fd-prducing rganisms. The scientists are hpeful that this methd culd unlck new ways t prduce fd using less physical space and energy than traditinal agriculture — including, perhaps, crps that can grw in the dark.
While ther experts are skeptical that it will ever be pssible t redesign plant bilgy s thrughly, they are excited by the technlgy the researchers have invented and the team’s
ut-f-the-bx idea abut hw t make fd prductin mre efficient.
Lynn Rthschild, a senir research scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center, says it’s wrth keeping an pen mind abut hw any effrts t redesign a fundamental bilgical prcess like phtsynthesis culd be applied, in space r n Earth: “The payff may be smething we
      haven’t imagined yet.”
12 .Hw culd scientists grw algae in the dark accrding t the text?
A.By giving them a chemical frm plants. B.By giving them a chemical prduced by slar electricity.
C .By giving them physical space and energy. D .By giving them crps that grw in the dark.
13 .Which f the fllwing best describes artificial phtsynthesis”?
A .It uses sunlight, water, and CO2 inefficiently. B .It has been very successful.
C .It helps t find new ways f prducing fd. D .The term has just been created.
14 .What des the underlined wrd “ut-f-the-bx” mean in paragraph 5?
A .Taken ut frm the bx. B .Usable immediately.
      C .Mysterius. D .Very creative.
15 .Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
A .Hw t grw fungi in the dark? B .What is artificial phtsynthesis?
C .Can fd crps grw in the dark? D .Hw t turn sunlight int fd?

When peple try t interrupt yu, have set hurs planned and let them knw t cme back during that time r that yu’ll find them then.(当人们试图打扰你的时候,给他们设定好时间计划,让他们知道在这段时间内回来或者你会找到他们)及下文 It can help t eliminate
      E. It’s imprtant that yu let them knw when yu’ll be available(让他们知道你什么时候有空是很重要的)符合语境。

Tell the persn yu’re srry and explain that yu have a millin things t d and
then ask if the tw f yu can talk at a different time.(告诉对方你很抱歉,并解释你有很多事情要做,然后问他们是否可以在不同的时间交谈)可知,这一段主要是讲述学会在自己很忙的时候去拒绝别人。A. 故选 A。
