      We knw sleep quality is imprtant fr gd health, that adlescence (青少年时期) is an imprtant time fr brain develpment, and that teens dn’t always get a huge amunt f sleep — and new research gives us sme fresh understanding f hw that all fits tgether.
      Researchers used data frm 3,222 adlescents aged 9 t 14. They divided them int three grups based n sleep habits: the wrst (averaging 7 hurs and 10 minutes per night), the best (7 hurs and 25 minutes), and thse in between (7 hurs and 21 minutes). While there wasn’t much difference between these grups in terms f academic achievement, the best sleepers shwed nticeable imprvements in cgnitive (认知的) tests fr reading, prblem slving, and fcus, cmpared t the wrst sleepers. “Even thugh the differences in the amunt f sleep that each grup gt were relatively small, at just ver a quarter-f-an-hur between the best and wrst sleepers, we culd still see differences in brain structure and activity and in hw well they did at tasks,” says clinical neurpsychlgist Barbara Sahakian frm the University f Cambridge. “This shws us just hw imprtant it is t have a gd night’s sleep at this imprtant stage in life.”
