Instead f just handing families resurce lists, Suzannah built the prgram n a simple, vital belief: when a family is drwning in fear and cnfusin after a diagnsis, they dn’t need a checklist first — they need smene wh’s walked their path, and smene wh listens befre guiding instead f leading with paperwrk.
One mrning, Suzannah received a call frm David, a single father whse yung daughter had just been diagnsed with glbal develpmental delay. He sunded tense, verwhelmed. “I dn’t even knw what questins t ask”, he admitted.
Suzannah didn’t just send infrmatin — she sent Linda, whse wn sn had thrived (茁壮成长) against similar dds. Linda shwed up at David’s dr with tw cffees and n judgment. “Let’s start with what she lves. What makes her laugh?” she said.
Weeks later, Suzannah watched frm acrss the rm at a Mind the Gap family gathering as David lifted his daughter high in the air — bth f them laughing. He caught Suzannah’s eye and muthed, “Thank yu”.
But the true mment f a prfessinal milestne came when Suzannah was named the Haggerty-Friedman Prfessr, which hadn’t had anther hst fr a lng time since Dr. Smith passed away. Standing at the pdium (领奖台), she lked ut at the audience — filled nt nly with clleagues but with parents and children she’d served.
“This isn’t my prfessrship”, she said, her vice clear and steady. “It’s urs. It belngs t the mthers wh shw up with cffee and curage, the fathers wh learn t advcate, the children wh remind us that every small step is a victry.”

根据第四段“Suzannah didn’t just send infrmatin — she sent Linda, whse wn sn had thrived (茁壮成长) against similar dds. Linda shwed up at David’s dr with tw cffees and n judgment. “Let’s start with what she lves. What makes her laugh?” she said.(Suzannah不仅仅是发送信息,她还派了Linda去,Linda自己的儿子也在类似的困境中茁壮成长。Linda带着两杯咖啡出现在David家门口,没有评判。“让我们从她喜欢的东西开始。什么让她笑?”她说)”可知,Linda通过倾听和分享个人经历来帮助David。故选B。
      【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“This was why Mind the Gap had t be different. Instead f just handing families resurce lists, Suzannah built the prgram n a simple, vital belief: when a family is drwning in fear and cnfusin after a diagnsis, they dn’t need a checklist first — they need smene wh’s walked their path, and smene wh listens befre guiding instead f leading with paperwrk.(这就是为什么Mind the Gap必须与众不同。
通读全文,尤其是根据第二段“This was why Mind the Gap had t be different.
      C
Acrss the United States, thusands f buildings are taking advantage f cutting-edge batteries cnstructed frm ne f the planet’s mst fundamental substances: ice. During ff-peak hurs when electricity rates are lw, these batteries freeze water, and when energy demand and cst rise, facility peratrs pwer ff cnventinal expensive chillers (冷却器) and use the stred ice fr cling.
A typical structure cntributes apprximately ne-fifth f its electrical cnsumptin t cling, as reprted by the Internatinal Energy Agency. By transferring energy usage t perids f lwer cst, majr buildings can reduce annual pwer expenses by hundreds f thusands f dllars. Additinally, this apprach minimises reliance n electricity generated by the mst plluting fssil fuel pwer statins.
T date, ice-based energy strage has primarily been carried ut in ffices, hspitals, htels, and ther large facilities with centralised air cnditining, wing t the substantial spatial requirements f the batteries. Fr instance, a system in the basement f a New-Yrk-City banking high-rise cmprises apprximately 100 water tanks, each cmparable in size t a standard parking space, accrding t Hlly Paeper, president f the American cmmercial HVAC divisin at Trane Technlgies.
Nevertheless, this drawback is gradually being addressed. Nstrm Energy, a manufacturer specializing in ice batteries, has engineered “Ice Brick” units designed fr tighter spaces. Meanwhile, Califrnia-based Ice Energy has deplyed (部署) thusands f its “Ice Bear” systems in single-stry lcatins and intends t intrduce a mre cmpact mdel fr residential use later this year.
Currently, the expansin f this technlgy is chiefly restricted by reginal climate cnditins and pricing strategy. Buildings situated in clder climates may perate cling systems infrequently. Mrever, if pwer cmpanies d nt apply time-varying electricity rates r ffer financial stimulatin fr demand reductin during peak perids, ice batteries may nt deliver significant ecnmic benefits. Hwever, in suitable markets, ice batteries can be integrated with ther energy strage technlgies t enhance grid (电网) reliability and meet grwing electrical demand.
      8. What aspect f ice batteries is mainly talked abut in paragraph 1?
      A. The cheap surce.B. The prductin prcess.
      C. The perating principle.D. The applicatin example.

      A. T shw the system’s advancement.
      B. T illustrate the battery’s limitatin.
      C. T explain energy strage prcedures.
      D. T highlight the ice prductin methd.
      10. What des the underlined wrd “cmpact” in paragraph 4 mean?
      A. Small-sized.B. Lw-cst.C. High-pwered.D. Well-designed.
      11. What strategy may prmte the applicatin f the ice battery?
      A. Increasing funding fr pwer plants.
      B. Offering ff-peak electricity discunts.
      C. Imprving reginal climate cnditins.
      D. Banning cnventinal cling systems.
C 9. B 10. A 11. B
根据第一段中“During ff-peak hurs when electricity rates are lw, these batteries freeze water, and when energy demand and cst rise, facility peratrs pwer ff cnventinal expensive chillers (冷却器) and use the stred ice fr cling.(在电价较低的非高峰时段,这些电池会冻结水,当能源需求和成本上升时,设施操作员会关闭传统的昂贵冷却器,并使用储存的冰进行冷却)”可知,本段主要解释冰电池如何在电价低时制冰、电价高时用冰制冷,即其运行原理。
根据第三段“T date, ice-based energy strage has primarily been carried ut in ffices, hspitals, htels, and ther large facilities with centralised air cnditining, wing t the substantial spatial requirements f the batteries. Fr instance, a system in the basement f a New-Yrk-City banking high-rise cmprises apprximately 100 water tanks, each cmparable in size t a standard parking space, accrding t Hlly Paeper, president f the American cmmercial HVAC divisin at Trane Technlgies.(迄今为止,基于冰的能源储存主要在办公室、医院、酒店和其他有中央空调的大型设施中进行,因为电池对空间的要求很大。例如,据Trane Technlgies美国商业暖通空调部门总裁Hlly Paeper介绍,纽约市一座高层银行地下室的一个系统由大约100个水箱组成,每个水箱的大小与一个标准停车位相当)”可知,冰电池系统需要大量空间 (“100 tanks”为例),说明其目前主要适用于大型建筑,因此举例是为了强调其空间局限性。故选B。
      【10题详解】
词句猜测题。第四段中“Nstrm Energy, a manufacturer specializing in ice batteries, has engineered “Ice Brick” units designed fr tighter spaces. Meanwhile, Califrnia-based Ice Energy has deplyed (部署) thusands f its “Ice Bear” systems in single-stry lcatins(专门生产冰电池的Nstrm Energy设计了一种名为“Ice Brick”的电池,用于更狭小的空间。与此同时,总部位于加州的Ice Energy已经在单层建筑中部署了数千个“Ice Bear”系统)”提到Nstrm公司设计用于“tighter spaces”的电池,且Ice Energy计划推出“smaller versin”, 因此“cmpact”意为“小型的”。故选A。
最后一段中“Mrever, if pwer cmpanies d nt apply time-varying electricity rates r ffer financial stimulatin fr demand reductin during peak perids, ice batteries may nt deliver significant ecnmic benefits.(此外,如果电力公司不采用分时电价或在高峰时期提供财政刺激以减少需求,冰电池可能不会带来显着的经济效益)”指出,若电力公司不提供“分时电价”或高峰时段节能激励,冰电池难以节省费用,由此可知,非高峰时段电价折扣可促进冰电池的应用。故选B。

Mst peple believe their beliefs and pinins are lgical and impartial based n years f experience and bjective analysis f the infrmatin available. In reality, we are all subject t cnfirmatin bias — the tendency t interpret new infrmatin as cnfirmatin f ur existing beliefs while subcnsciusly ignring evidence that prves them wrng. The brain des this t prtect ur self-wrth, making us feel cnfident and in cntrl. But if left unexamined, cnfirmatin bias can ften negatively affect ur decisin-making prcess.
A big part f my caching practice is helping clients questin their current belief systems, even thugh it feels terrible in the mment, s they can benefit frm changed beliefs in the lng run. Many clients have never examined their beliefs, and they dn’t even knw the repetitive thughts driving their cnfirmatin bias. They just think that’s the way they are. I help them see that what they’ve been thinking true their whle lives is nt necessarily true and they dn’t have t keep believing that if it is nt serving them in life.
The prblem with cnfirmatin bias is that facts dn’t change ur beliefs. Even where there is plentiful evidence t prve ur belief wrng, ur brain will dismiss it as an exceptin. We are unwilling t change ur beliefs because ften that requires changing ur identity, which we naturally resist. The nly way t change a belief is a cnscius decisin t d s. Hwever, reinterpreting reality is tiring. Our underlying current f thught has becme habitual in a way that takes very little energy frm us. Changing ur beliefs requires a lt f energy and discmfrt.
If yu want t change, yu need t understand yur cnfirmatin bias and put effrt int changing yur default (默认) thinking. Yur new fcused thinking will take mre wrk. Yu will initially resist it. But eventually, yur intentinal thught will becme yur new belief system. And then yur cnfirmatin bias will wrk t yur advantage as yur brain will be lking fr evidence t cnfirm beliefs that are helping yu imprve yur life, as ppsed t hlding yu back.
      12. What is a feature f cnfirmatin bias accrding t paragraph 1?
      A. It prmtes lgical thinking.B. It cntributes t bjective judgment.
      C. It weighs new evidence heavily.D. It prcesses infrmatin selectively.
      13. What can be learned abut many f the authr’s clients?
      A. They are unaware f their mental habits.B. They are unwilling t admit mistakes.
      C. They rarely have repetitive thughts.D. They refuse t examine their beliefs.
      14. What can we infer frm the passage abut peple’s resistance t changing beliefs?
      A. It mainly cmes frm the fear f lsing self-cnfidence.
      B. It is clsely related t peple’s sense f identity.
      C. It can be easily vercme with the help f a cach.
      D. It results frm the lack f sufficient evidence against beliefs.
      15. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the passage?
      A. Cnfirmatin Bias: Its Impact and Overcming Strategies
      B. Hw t Change Yur Belief System Effectively
      C. The Rle f Caching in Crrecting Cnfirmatin Bias
      D. Why Facts Fail t Change Our Beliefs
D 13. A 14. B 15. A
