A Malawian wman, Glria Majiga-Kamt, was recently awarded the Gldman
Envirnmental Prize fr Africa — the wrld’s leading award fr grassrts envirnmental activists.
Glria Majiga-Kamt was then wrking fr a lcal envirnmental rganizatin with a
prgram that gave gats t rural farmers, wh wuld use the gat waste t prduce lw-cst,
high-quality rganic fertilizer (肥料). The prblem? The thin plastic bags cvering the Malawian cuntryside. “We have this very cmmn street fd, chiwaya, which is salty and served in little blue plastics,” Majiga-Kamt says. “Gats eat the plastic fr salty taste and they die because it
blcks the ingestin (摄食) system.” Fr her, this was the mment when it all changed. All f a
sudden, she started nticing hw plastics were everywhere in the Malawian envirnment and fd system-affecting peple’s living and health.
“I remember back in the day when we’d g t the market and buy things like fish, yu’d get it in newspapers,” the 30-year-ld says. But thin plastics tk ff in the last decade r s as new
prducers sprung up in Malawi, selling prducts like thin plastic bags at cheap prices. In fact, the Malawian gvernment decided t ban the imprtatin, prductin and distributin f single-use plastic in 2015. But befre the ban culd g int full effect, Malawi’s plastics-prducing industry appealed t the cuntry’s High Curt against the ban, causing it t be suspended.
When Majiga-Kamt and her fellw envirnmentalists heard abut this, they were
annyed. She rganized marches and rejected the plastic industry’s argument that the ban wuld hurt Malawi’s ecnmy — and even debated with an industry spkesman n TV. Finally in 2019, Malawi’s High Curt ruled in favr f the ban. The fllwing year, the gvernment began clsing dwn illegal plastic prducers.
Michael Suttn, executive directr f the Gldman Envirnmental Fundatin, said,
“Majiga-Kamt’s fight with the plastic industry is a perfect example f the spirit f the prize.”
24 .What made Majiga-Kamt realize the prblem?
A .Her experience with plastic-eating gats.
B .Her discvery f gat waste everywhere.
C .Her dubt abut the safety f street fd.
D .Her care fr the farmers living in pverty.
25 .What can we learn abut Malawi?
A .It used t be extremely rich in fish.
B .It advcated using thin plastic bags.
C .It failed t ban single-use plastic at first.

Fr a lng time, space explratin depended n large, heavy satellites that cst a huge
amunt f mney and required pwerful rckets t launch. These machines culd weigh several tns and take years t design and build. But in recent years, tiny satellites have cmpletely
changed hw humans explre and use uter space.
Mini-satellites (微型卫星) are n bigger than a small bx. Sme are even just the size f a bk. At first, many space experts dubted whether such small machines culd wrk well in uter space. They wrried the tiny tls wuld nt be strng enugh t stand the envirnment utside
      the Earth’s atmsphere.
Early mini-satellites had clear limitatins. They culd carry nly simple instruments and
had shrt wrking lives. Mst culd nt change their directin nce in rbit, and their signals were easy t lse. Yet scientists refused t give up. They kept testing new materials and smaller,
smarter electrnic parts t slve these prblems.
Mdern mini-satellites are far mre pwerful than their early frms. Special light metals and plastic prtect them frm extreme temperatures and space rubbish. They are equipped with small cameras, sensrs and cmmunicatin systems that can recrd data and send messages back t Earth. Sme can even mve gently in rbit by using special lw-pwer engines.
What makes these tiny satellites s useful is their ability t wrk in grups. Instead f
launching ne large satellite, scientists send up tens r even hundreds f mini-satellites at the same time. They spread ut in rbit and cver larger areas than any single big satellite. This grup wrk helps with weather recrding, envirnmental mnitring and space mapping.
Anther imprtant advantage is the cst. Mini-satellites cst far less t build and launch.
Universities, small research grups and even private cmpanies can nw affrd t design and send up their wn satellites. This has pened space research t far mre peple arund the wrld.
Tday, mini-satellites are helping humans study the weather, watch ver frests and ceans, and even supprt cmmunicatin in remte areas. They have prved that size des nt decide
value in space. As technlgy cntinues t imprve, these small but strng satellites will play an even bigger rle in the future f space explratin.
28 .What prtects mini-satellites frm space risks?
      A .Thick, heavy metal cvers.
B .Light metals and special plastic.
      C .High pwer, strng engines.
      D .Small, clear camera lenses.
29 .What des the underlined wrd “limitatins” in Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
A .Clear, useful advantages. B .Clear, bvius weaknesses.
C .New, useful functins. D .Old, serius prblems.
      30 .What was a shrtcming f early mini-satellites?
      A .Shrt, limited wrking lives.
      B .Strng, clear signal strength.
      C .Easy, quick directin changes.
      D .Heavy, cmplex material structure.
31 .What is the best title fr this text?
      A .Large, heavy ld satellites
B .Space rubbish and its bad effects
C .Rcket launch csts and methds
D .Small satellites, big space value

AI image generatrs have made a giant leap frward in a remarkably shrt perid. These highly-develped systems are nw capable f creating human faces that are nt nly cnvincing but ften perceived as mre realistic than actual human nes. This phenmenn, termed
“hyper-realism”, pses a significant challenge t digital trust. Hwever, a recent cllabrative study by researchers frm the UK pints t a prmising path: imprving ur cllective AI-face detectin capabilities thrugh specialized, targeted training.
The research team tested the face-assessing skills f 664 vlunteers, categrized int tw distinct grups: “super-recgnizers” — individuals wh pssess a rare, naturally superir ability fr facial recgnitin — and thse with typical recgnitin skills. The experiment invlved tw cre tasks designed t test intuitin (直觉) and lgic. In the initial task, vlunteers evaluated a single image t determine its rigin; in the subsequent task, they were presented with a pair f faces — ne real and ne artificial — and asked t identify the fake.
In the cntrl grup that received n prir instructin, the data revealed a wrrying trend.
Super-recgnizers crrectly identified AI faces nly 41 percent f the time, while typical
recgnizers drpped t a mere 31 percent. Given that half the images were AI-generated, bth grups perfrmed significantly wrse than randm chance (50 percent). This statistical gap
cnfirms that AI prtraits can effectively trick the human brain’s natural prcessing systems.
T cunter this, the study intrduced a brief five-minute interventin. Participants were trained t lk fr “tell-tale” signs — fine bilgical imperfectins such as unnatural teeth
alignment r strange blurring where the hair meets the skin.
Fllwing this sessin, the accuracy f super-recgnizers bsted t 64 percent. In cntrast, while typical recgnizers imprved t 51 percent, they remained at the level f a cin flip.
“As AI images are increasingly explited fr illegal purpses like identity theft scams (骗局), testing detectin methds is crucial frm a security perspective”, explains researcher
EilidhNyes. The findings highlight that while technlgy evlves, human expertise remains irreplaceable. Cmbining natural talent with prfessinal training may be ur best defence in cnfirming digital identities and securing the future f nline interactin.
32 .The study mainly examines participants’ .
A .lgical reasning B .reactin speed
C .technical knwledge D .bservatinal skills
33 .What is the meaning f “cunter” in paragraph 4?
      A .T apprve f. B .T argue against.
      C .T act in ppsitin t. D .T examine in detail.
34 .What is the significance f the 64 percent accuracy rate mentined in paragraph 5?
A .It cnfirms the ptential f cmbining gift with practice.
B .It represents the maximum limit f human recgnitin.
C .It shws the similarity between human and AI.
D .It indicates that mst peple can be trained t spt false images.
35 .What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
A .Technical evlutin will eventually eliminate identity theft
B .Prfessinal training is mre essential than natural talent.
C .Human factrs remain a critical layer in digital defense.
D .The security risks f AI are currently verestimated.

      39
It might seem cunterintuitive, but taking breaks actually imprves cncentratin. Wrking fr hurs withut stpping leads t brain fatigue. This allws yur mind t rest and recver fr a few minutes. After a shrt walk r a stretch, yu will find it easier t return t yur wrk with a
      fresh mind and better energy.
      Limit yur use f technlgy.
Ntificatins frm scial media are majr distractins. Try t put yur phne in anther rm r use apps that blck distracting websites. 40 By remving these digital

Summer came alng, and my friend Neil suggested we ride ur bicycles eighty miles frm Saskatn t Lake Diefenbaker fr the fficial pening f the Gardiner Dam. He called this
adventure a “Centennial Prject”, thus turning an irrespnsible jke int a nble pursuit. It tk a bit f cnvincing t get parental permissin but, after prmising t be careful and make a cllect call hme frm every twn we went thrugh, the answer was “yes”.
Neil was thirteen and I was twelve. We set ff fr ur big adventure. I had a brrwed
three-speed bicycle, five dllars in my pcket, and a cttn sleeping bag. A few hurs int ur trip, ur jy kicked in as ur bikes sped dwn the mile-lng hill at the end f newly cnstructed, man-made Blackstrap Lake. We held n fr dear life as we rushed faster n tw wheels than we ever thught pssible. It was a lt less fun when we had t climb up the ther side f the valley.
Hurs later we were in the middle f nwhere. Our water was gne, I had a flat frnt tire, and we were walking unsteadily under the sky. The highway extended n frever in frnt f us. We had been walking fr what seemed like a century when a huge yellw Department f
      Highways truck pulled up.
“Yu bys need a ride?” “Yes, we d.” we replied, and secnds later tw big wrkers threw ur bikes up int the dump bx and we were ff. We tld the men ur stry and they thught it
quite amusing. Ten minutes later we were ff-laded at the Kenastn Garage, where I was able t get my tire fixed fr fifty cents.
Just that quickly we were back n the rad! The sun filled the western sky as we
apprached the little cmmunity f Hawarden. Night was cming and we cycled arund the twn lking fr a place t sleep under the stars. What a great adventure! The schlyard lked
