      The fabric is easy t manufacture, flexible, wearable and nt angle-dependent. The researchers hpe t frm a cmpany arund their prcess, which can be used n natural materials, including wl, silk and cttn.
      Larissa Shepherd, directr f the RAD Lab, led the team’s analysis f riflebird feathers, whse black clr cmes frm melanin pigment (黑色素) — an identity als fund in ther creatures like fish and butterflies.” We hpe t create a material that nt nly absrbs light efficiently but als preserves its ultrablack appearance frm all angles,” she said.
      The fabrics ttal reflectin is 0.13%, making it the darkest reprted. And it remained ultrablack acrss a 120-degree angle range, meaning it appears the same at up t a 60-degree angle either side r straight n, utperfrming current cmmercial materials.
      Kyuin Park, a c-authr with Shepherd, said their ultrablack fabric has ptential in slar energy applicatins transfrming absrbed light int heat. “We culd als use it fr heat-adjusting disguise” he said.
      Last fall, fashin design student Ze Alvarez created a black dress inspired by the riflebird, featuring ultrablack material. Images f the dress cnfirmed ultrablack’s true “blackness”: When the image’s cntrast, shade, r brightness were adjusted, all the ther clrs changed, but ultrablack remained the same.
