Writing by hand is nt nly imprtant fr language prcessing and memry, but it is als imprtant fr mental develpment. In learning t write by hand, the human brain must cmbine feeling, mvement cntrl, and thinking. Fr whatever reasn, it des nt d s when learning t type.
Writing by hand is gd fr mental health, and there are sme studies that can prve it. Writing n paper can help students recall material better than typing n a keybard. Similarly, a study frm 2014 shws that cmpared t writing by hand, taking ntes n a laptp results in a less deep absrptin f the learned material. This is because when using a laptp, students will ften type ut lectures wrd fr wrd instead f prcessing infrmatin and rewrding it in their wn language.
These advantages actually translate t hw yu recall the infrmatin. In this case, writing by hand instead f typing als helps students d better n exams. Children write lnger and mre cmplex essays when they are writing by hand, cmpared with using a keybard. Children usually d better writing with a pen when they write essays. They write mre and faster.

The average adults in the UK spend nearly tw hurs daily n scial media, while yunger users may spend up t five hurs. Internet platfrms (平台) attract users by using always-changing cntent. Recent research reveals their bdies physically react when using these platfrms.
Sme researchers bserved 54 yung adults surfing the Internet nrmally fr 15 minutes n their phnes. Special equipment measured their heart activity and sweating respnse, which help the researchers understand their emtinal states. The participants first read a news article n their phnes befre changing t scial media. Cmpared t reading news, the use f scial media caused slwer heart rates cmbined with greater sweating respnse. Previus studies shw this pattern ccurs when peple becme deeply fcused n emtinally meaningful cntent — a mix f excitement and ttal mental invlvement (参与).
Imprtantly, this reactin wasn’t caused by phne use itself, but specifically by scial media interactin. The mst surprising result came when the researchers asked users t stp using scial media and return t news reading. Instead f calming dwn, the participants shwed increased physical reactins — faster heart rates and greater sweating respnse.
Why did this happen? Emtinal surveys prvided clues. The participants reprted feeling stressed and anxius when stpping scial media use, even expressing a strng wish t return t it. These reactins are similar t the discmfrt peple experience when suddenly stpping addictive things. Our study, hwever, desn’t cnfirm true addictin. All participants shwed similar physical reactins regardless f their self-reprted scial media habits. This suggests scial media’s attractin lies in its ability t prvide pwerful rewards (奖励) thrugh features like persnalized vide streams that keep users endlessly invlved.
T much use f scial media can be harmful t yuths’ well-being. Earlier research shws peple primarily use scial media t satisfy basic human needs fr cnnectin and acceptance. These needs can be met thrugh real-wrld interactins. Mst f us can reduce scial media use withut majr life changes because we can satisfy scial needs thrugh ther methds like face-t-face cnversatins.
12. What did the researchers use special equipment t d?
A. Change the cntent f scial media.
B. Understand the functin f scial media.
C. Measure the participants’ physical signs.
D. Cntrl the participants’ emtinal states.
13. What happened when the participants were asked t stp using scial media?
A. They kept extremely calm.B. Their sweating respnse increased.
C. Their heart rates stayed the sameD. They wished t cntinue reading news.
14. What can we learn abut scial media frm paragraph 4?
A. It has n impact n users’ emtins.
B. It attracts users’ invlvement thrugh rewards.
C. It causes true addictin in all participants.
D. It leads t all participants’ different physical respnses.
15 What is the authr’s attitude t yung peple’s using scial media?
A. Uncncerned.B. Psitive.C. Oppsed.D. Curius.
