      Fifteen years ag, I lved ging t the gym, but family life and wrk cmmitments meant I was finding it hard t get there. With the help f my dad and uncle, I built my wn gym in the garden. It’s basically a beautified rm with insulatin (隔热层) and electries and a small heater fr the winter. We built a crner desk t intending it t be fr me t d the paperwrk fr my small business.       Pet and animal-related apps are creating cybersecurity risks t their wners, new research has shwn. While being able t keep track f yur cat and dg may be an attractive benefit t many pet wners as it can prvide peace f mind, allwing a third party t track yur mvements may be much less attractive.
      Cmputer scientists at Newcastle University and Ryal Hllway, University f Lndn have expsed multiple security and privacy issues by evaluating 40 ppular Andrid apps fr pets. The results shw that several f these apps are putting their users at risk by expsing their lgin r lcatin details.
      Passwrd vulnerability (漏洞) was ne f the areas expsed by the team. They identified three applicatins that had the user’s lgin details visible in plain text within nn-secure HTTP traffic. This means that anyne is able t bserve the internet traffic f smene using ne f these apps and will be able t find ut their lgin infrmatin. In additin t lgin infrmatin, tw f the apps als shwed user details, such as their lcatin that may enable smene t gain access t their devices and risk a cyber-attack.
      Anther area f cncern identified in the study was the use f trackers. All but fur f the applicatins were fund t feature sme frm f tracking sftware. A tracker gathers infrmatin n the persn using the applicatin, n hw they use it, r n the smartphne being used.
      Sctt Harper is a PhD student at Newcastle University’s Schl f Cmputing and the lead authr f the study. He said: “Pet tech such as smart cllars and GPS trackers fr yur cat r dg, is a rapidly grwing industry and it brings with it new security, privacy, and safety risks t the pet wners. We wuld urge anyne using these apps t take the time t ensure they are using a unique passwrd, check the settings and ensure that they cnsider hw much data they are sharing r willing t share.”

      “Cnsumers cmplain that the mdern tmat has little flavr.       Hw can farmers ditch this unpleasant thing and recver the rich, sweet flavr f the tmat? T find ut, Huang and clleagues investigated which genes are related t tmates’ taste. The scientists created a 100-persn grup that sampled 160 tmates based n sensry qualities. Based n the grup’s feedback, the researchers identified dzens f chemical cmpunds (化合物) that culd be related t the tmat’s taste. Using a statistical mdel that determined the cncentratin f varius chemicals in the tmates, the scientists identified 33 mst imprtant flavr cmpunds. The researchers then measured the cntent f them in each f the tmates, and identified abut 250 genetic lci (基因座) that cntrlled tmat flavr. This finding revealed the genetic basis f tmat flavr.
      But the researchers als wanted t determine why stre-bught tmates dn’t taste gd. It turns ut that mdern tmat varieties are selected accrding t qualities such as big size because buyers prefer large fruit, and firmness because it makes tmates easier t ship. Meanwhile, the quality f flavr has been ignred, said the researchers.
      Vlatiles (挥发性物质), in particular, are essential fr gd flavr. The remval f specific vlatiles frm tmates results in significant reductin in peple’s liking. Mrever, refrigeratin can change a tmat’s vlatile cmpunds.
      “But there is hpe fr a future filled with tasty, new varieties f stre-bught tmates, as ur results prvide a rad map fr imprvement f flavr. By wrking tgether, geneticists, bichemists, farmers and custmers can prvide better-flavred tmates fr ur sciety.” Huang said.
