Culture, by which scientists mean that animals learn frm each ther t vercme prblems, seems t be increasingly cmmn acrss the animal kingdm. Alice Bridges, a behaviral eclgist at Anglia Ruskin University in England, wndered whether insects like bumblebees might have a capacity fr it, t.
T study culture in bumblebees in the lab, she built a puzzle bx ut f Petri dishes (培养皿) with a reward f super sweet sugar water at the bttm f it. Bridges cut a small hle in the lid t create a spinning tp that can be turned by pushing the red dt clckwise r the blue dt cunter-clckwise. Then, she trained sme bees t push the red dt t get the sugar water and thers t push the blue dt. Next, Bridges put these trained bees int different clnies (群体) alng with the puzzle bxes.
It wasn’t all fun and games, hwever, and the experiment ultimately played itself ut. In clnies where the tutr bee had riginally learned t push the red dt, the ther bees in the clny usually pushed the red dt. In clnies where the tutr bee was trained t push the blue dt, their fellw bees tended t d the same. In the cntrl clnies where there were n tutrs, the bees smetimes learned hw t pen the bxes, but never as efficiently r reliably.
The cnclusin is that bumblebees can pass n certain behavirs. Hwever, because bumblebee clnies cllapse befre winter, there’s little chance a traditin culd get passed dwn frm generatin t generatin. S, Bridges is planning future wrk n insects whse clnies last fr years, like stingless bees.
That truth, summarizes Whiten, a cgnitive zlgist at the University f St Andrews in Sctland, is that all we have discvered abut animal culture means that human culture, nce thught unique, did nt emerge “ut f the blue” but has bviusly built n deep evlutinary fundatins.
      8. Hw was Alice Bridges’ study cnducted?
      A. By analyzing experimental data in detail.B. By bserving the behavirs f tutr bees.
      C. By referring t the previus experiments.D. By cmparing results in different grups.
      9. What des the phrase “played itself ut” in paragraph 3 mean?
      A. Ended in failure.B. Caused cnfusin.
      C. Reached a cnclusin.D. Became entertaining.
      10. Why is Alice Bridges turning t insects like stingless bees fr future wrk?
      A. Because they may pass dwn traditins acrss generatins.
      B. Because they may have mre cmplex cultural behavirs.
      C. Because it may be easier t bserve these insects in the lab.
      D. Because insects f such types may learn mre efficiently.
      11. What is the best title fr the passage?
      A. Bumblebees’ Unique Learning SkillsB. The Evlutin f Human Culture
      C. Insect Training: Slving Puzzles in the LabD. Animal Culture: Beynd Human Uniqueness
D 9. C 10. A 11. D
根据第二段“Then, she trained sme bees t push the red dt t get the sugar water and thers t push the blue dt. Next, Bridges put these trained bees int different clnies (群体) alng with the puzzle bxes.(然后,她训练一些大黄蜂推动红点来获取糖水,另一些大黄蜂则推动蓝点。接下来,布里奇斯将这些训练有素的大黄蜂与拼图盒一起放入不同的群体中)”可推知,爱丽丝·布里奇斯的研究是通过比较不同组的结果来进行的。故选D。
      【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“Then, she trained sme bees t push the red dt t get the sugar water and thers t push the blue dt. Next, Bridges put these trained bees int different clnies (群体) alng with the puzzle bxes.(然后,她训练一些大黄蜂推动红点来获取糖水,另一些大黄蜂则推动蓝点。接下来,布里奇斯将这些训练有素的大黄蜂与拼图盒一起放入不同的群体中)”和第三段“In clnies where the tutr bee had riginally learned t push the red dt, the ther bees in the clny usually pushed the red dt. In clnies where the tutr bee was trained t push the blue dt, their fellw bees tended t d the same.(在那些原本由导师蜂学会推压红色圆点的蜂群中,其他蜜蜂通常也会推压那个红色圆点。
根据倒数第二段“The cnclusin is that bumblebees can pass n certain behavirs. Hwever, because bumblebee clnies cllapse befre winter, there’s little chance a traditin culd get passed dwn frm generatin t generatin. S, Bridges is planning future wrk n insects whse clnies last fr years, like stingless bees.(结论是,大黄蜂能够传递某些行为。然而,由于大黄蜂的群体在冬季来临前就会消亡,因此传统很难从一代传至下一代。所以,布里奇斯计划未来开展有关那些群体能持续数年的昆虫(如无刺蜜蜂)的研究)”可知,爱丽丝·布里奇斯在未来的工作中会转向无刺蜜蜂等昆虫,这是因为这些昆虫可能会将传统代代相传。故选A。
通读全文,并结合第一段“Culture, by which scientists mean that animals learn frm each ther t vercme prblems, seems t be increasingly cmmn acrss the animal kingdm. Alice Bridges, a behaviral eclgist at Anglia Ruskin University in England, wndered whether insects like bumblebees might have a capacity fr it, t.(科学家所说“文化”指的是动物之间相互学习以解决难题的现象。

Yu had t be really unlucky t be n the China Natinal Highway 110 n August 14, 2025. One f the lngest traffic jams n recrd, trapping thusands f vehicles ver mre than 100 kilmeters and lasting mre than 10 days. Wuld it make yu impatient? I strngly suspect that even the calmest wuld answer with a resunding “yes”! And yet philsphers and pets alike sell patience as a “virtue” (a gd quality), implying that having it is always a gd thing. T me, it’s far mre useful t think abut patience as smething we d rather than smething we have.
Cnsider first what it means t be impatient. We all knw the feeling: fingers drumming the table, leg buncing. But why des this frustrating feeling arise? Mst emtin researchers take it as a functinalist perspective. Our mind and bdy are trying t tell us t get mving, t find a way t bring the unpleasant delay t an end.
In a series f recent studies with mre than 1,400 participants, we fund that peple were mre impatient when the thing they were waiting fr was very appealing — and when the wait itself was unappealing. Being delayed fr smething yu hate, such as an unpleasant wrk event, is easier than a similar delay fr a lng-awaited perfrmance by yur favrite band.
If impatience is an emtin, what is patience? In technical terms, it’s a frm f emtin regulatin (调节) like reminding urselves that the scary mvie isn’t real. When we start t feel impatient, we can let that feeling rage — r we can regulate it. Are yu waiting weeks t find ut if yu have gt that jb? Dive int yur favrite hbby t distract (干扰) yurself fr a few hurs.
There’s still a lt we dn’t knw abut patience, including why sme peple seem t find it easier than thers and hw we can get better at it. Frtunately, thse are simpler questins t answer when we reduce the challenge frm virtue acquisitin t emtin regulatin.
Ultimately, it may seem like a sharp cntrast t petic descriptins f virtue, but I’ll take practical wisdm ver virtue any day.
      12. Why des the authr mentin the traffic jam in paragraph 1?
      A. T reveal China’s traffic prblems.B. T intrduce China’s lngest traffic jam.
      C. T questin the abslute value f patience.D. T shw emtinal challenge in extreme situatins.
      13. Which f the fllwing situatins wuld make peple the mst impatient?
      A. Being stuck in a traffic jam in a cmfrtable car.
      B. Being delayed by bad weather n the way t wrk.
C Waiting fr an imprtant but unpleasant wrk meeting.
      D. Waiting in a lng queue fr an expected ftball game.
      14. What des the authr view patience as?
      A. An acquired virtue.B. A brn persnality.
      C. A way f releasing emtin.D. A behavir f managing emtin.
      15. What is the purpse f the text?
      A. T argue fr a virtue.B. T redefine patience.
      C. T intrduce strategies.D. T identify impatience.
C 13. D 14. D 15. B

根据第一段“Yu had t be really unlucky t be n the China Natinal Highway 110 n August 14, 2025. 细节理解题。根据第三段“In a series f recent studies with mre than 1,400 participants, we fund that peple were mre impatient when the thing they were waiting fr was very appealing — and when the wait itself was unappealing.(在最近的一系列研究中,我们对超过1400名参与者进行了调查。
