I recently had a parent say t me, “ChatGPT can prduce a gd essay (文章) n just abut any tpic in 3.4 secnds. Yu’re nt still teaching kids essay writing the ld way, are yu?” Gd questin. As a high schl teacher, I still ask my students t send me handwritten essays. Yes, it’s true: AI tls like ChatGPT and ther large language mdels (LLMs) are great resurces. But I still like the “ld way”.
If the “new way” creates mre time fr students’ ther activities and less stress fr students, as an educatr, I am interested in hw I might encurage my students t use AI in acceptable ways that supprt their academic (学术的) gals. A gd example f this is using Grammarly while writing an essay. But, if by “ld way” that parent meant that I’m still asking students t write withut ChatGPT, even with a pencil and piece f paper, my answer is als yes. Studies suggest that writing by hand prmtes mre cmplex (复杂的) brain cnnectins that are imprtant in understanding new infrmatin. In ther wrds, the actual act f writing by hand can deepen the understanding f whatever students are learning in their classes.
Smetimes, AI tls can “cheat”, leading t misinfrmatin that many students might ignre (忽视). It’s imprtant and necessary that students dn’t simply see these technlgies as “cl tls that knw everything” and instead — befre they use them — are taught by the educatrs abut their limitatins.
As teachers get better at helping students learn hw t use AI and students get better at using it, there will certainly be reasns fr them t d s fr the sake f efficiency (为了效率). Hwever, remember the saying that “childhd ges s fast”? It’s true. There will be plenty f time fr yung peple — after they’ve learned t think fr themselves — t adapt t AI’s rle in their futures. While they’re yung, let’s nt rush them.
32. What is the authr’s requirement fr her students?
A. Jining schl activities. B. Writing essays by hand.
C. Knwing different LLMs. D. Learning a secnd language.
33. What can we learn abut the authr frm the example given in paragraph 2?
A. She supprts the respnsible use f AI
B. She values teacher-parent relatinships.
C. She wrries LLMs wuld replace teachers.
D. She prmtes paperless teaching and learning.
34. What shuld educatrs make students realize accrding t the authr?
A. AI is nt all-pwerful.
B. Learning efficiency matters.
C. Prgress des nt happen vernight.
D. LLMs can be great learning resurces.
35. Which statement will the authr prbably agree with?
A. Student years have a strng impact n students’ future lives.
B. In educatin, whether ld r new, what wrks is a gd apprach.
C. Educatrs shuld have cnfidence in the new generatin f students.
D. Traditinal teaching appraches still hld significance in the age f AI.
